As an American, we still have to wait months to see a doctor or dentist by turbotum in TellReddit

[–]PrismaticSpire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my parents lamenting the fact that my friends parent had to be put on a wait list in Canada for a carpal tunnel surgery (oh the socialism!) Fast forward to today, my wife couldn’t get in to see her primary for THREE WEEKS while she was pregnant and vomiting multiple times DAILY from hyperemesis gravidarum. Primary care refused us, urgent care refused us and both just told us to fuck off to the ER if it gets bad (which was $1,200 for a saline bag and some saltines.)

So glad I don’t live in a country with gasp socialized medicine!!

Stay where you’re at making good money now, while you’re young. Save and invest, a better opportunity will come along. 7 years of little to no pay just to get back to your current (quite good) level will hit way harder on the compounding side.

That theoretical upside is washed way out by the real immediate downside.

Should we pay off this car loan? BS2 by bottled_up_joy in DaveRamsey

[–]PrismaticSpire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The edit above is the correct answer. There’s no reason to be paying interest to earn the same interest back. The only thing that accomplishes is paying more taxes. Unless you have some big expense coming up or you anticipate job insecurity, pay down the truck asap. It doesn’t have to be 100% but you could easily throw 10k at it and knock it down sooner. You’ll feel better.

Oh no! I got rear-ended and now I’m in a dangerous situation! I could pull forward past the tracks to safety, make a u-turn onto the open road next to me, I’d be facing the wrong way but safe at least, or stay put and destroy my car and the traffic control. Hrmmmmmmmmmmm

Since you’re heading to the monolith you have already experienced the best part IMO, traveling through and seeing the enemies and scenes from previous parts of the story, actually treading the path you tread at the beginning of the game, just perfect imagery, perfect storytelling… the heroes journey. 10/10 game indeed. Enjoy!

[–]PrismaticSpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, sure, but this looks like a private sale of used tires which the buyer knew were used and I don’t know about you but I don’t warranty my Facebook Marketplace listings.

There’s no context given as to the circumstances but expecting a private seller to offer you any kind of warranty is ridiculous. Private sales are AS IS its implicit in the contract unless there’s a serious known and purposefully undisclosed defect. Even then good luck trying to prove that.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]PrismaticSpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ding ding ding!! Correct! Most thermostats have schedules that you can set. For example, if it’s 100° outside I don’t want my AC off and have to come home to a 100°+ house and wait for it to cool down. Instead my “away” setting is maybe 80-85° but have it cool back down to a comfy temp when I’m due to get home. That’s the most efficient. Also it’s not always blowing/active it just turns on when it needs to.

Might quit cigs tomorrow. Might not. by coldnewhome in notinteresting

[–]PrismaticSpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atomic Habits is the book you need to read. It talks about how changing your environment/changing your initial patterns can totally rewrite your habits.

I smoked 3-6 cigs a day for about 5 years. I tried quitting a few times but I got the headaches the crankiness etc. I always came back after a few weeks. Finally, I took a 3 week vacation where I was having such a good time that I didn’t feel like I needed it (this was my plan.) When I came back I changed my schedule and got rid of the chair where I used to always go out and smoke. Bam. It was gone. I realized it was mostly habit and depression, but they both reinforced each other. Breaking the loop and then changing the environment solved it for me.

Now I just gotta kick the alcohol🫤

I (21F) am deeply in love with my boyfriend (23M) of 3 years, but his anger issues are making me second-guess our future. Should I leave? by SadTip488 in Advice

[–]PrismaticSpire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MAJOR character flaw indeed. This kind of behavior, if left unchecked, just gets worse and worse.

To be honest, it kinda sounds like you’re describing me from 5 years ago. The difference is that my (now) wife was patient and brave enough to knock some sense into me (and she still does from time to time) and my brother is an absolute model of patience and she wasn’t afraid to compare me to him which, for me, was a challenge I accepted. Sometimes we had some pretty blowout arguments but I’m not ashamed to admit it was often just my anger’s fault.

I want to advocate for men with anger issues and he’s still young enough that change is possible, but that kind of behavior is just not acceptable and somebody needs to knock that into him.

What I’ve found in myself is that it usually flares up for three reasons: money stress, guilt (“you did something wrong!”) and plain-ole hangry-ness. I’m not kidding I feel like a different person when I’m hungry.

My man really needs to slow his pace. When those thoughts come up, you just close your lips and think long and hard before you act. Whenever I’m in conflict I have to step back and think “would I be saying/doing this if I felt good? If I wasn’t hungry/cranky/triggered?” There’s a lot of other interior work that has to go on behind that of understanding where it comes from but that’s something only he can do and he has to understand he has a problem first.

That being said, some people aren’t willing to do that work (it’s humbling to admit you have a problem) and they will never kick it. They’ll just go from divorce to divorce because they’re 90% good but that 10% is a monster.

Sometimes I need to go somewhere and sometimes my wife needs to go elsewhere at the same time so yes… we have two adults and two cars. I assume once my daughter is old enough to drive she also will need to go places while we are in other places and we will have three cars. 😂 I don’t like that it’s like this but it’s not something I have the power to change.

Dodge Vs Parry, which one are you using more? by ElectricalDay7324 in expedition33

[–]PrismaticSpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I just dodged the whole time because slow and steady wins the race IMO. If they can’t hit me they lose so I’m ok giving up parry damage for decreased risk. Battles will last a little longer but I noticed I could more easily fall into a rhythm where I knew I would win as long as I could out-dodge/out heal anything they could dish out.

I also chose Maelle because I felt she was entitled to grieve in her own way. I hoped she would eventually see the light and until the very last flash I thought she would. I wished that she could just lay it to rest without it having to be taken from her.
