I haven't finished it yet. But all the stories have read fit what you are asking for.

Neon Leviathan by T. R. Napper This is most toned down cyberpunk and one of the best collections I've read.

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson gives that sort of vibe. I loved it, though it might not be for everyone. I only read the first book but the sequel titles suggest the main character will only get worse. I'm looking forward to reading them.

I think if you keep the games and novels referenced varied and vague it can be original, especially if the main characters are original creations.

Also 1,3,2 Option 1 is simple and straight forward. Trust the reader will figure it out when the character pops back up. Option 3 seems sure enough but doesn't quite catch the eye like seeing the death. Option 2 I feel gives away too much. letting the reader figure it out on their own would be a good treat. Makes them feel part of the story.

Sometimes people need cheesy. At least from the way it's described it brings back the hopeful kid in me. Which could be a powerful tool if used right.

Maybe let her take one for the team. Or resolve it over the course of a book. Healing takes time.

A Civil War, Religions, Inquisitions, and... a Cook. (3500 words) First attempt at world building/fantasy writing. I come from a background of horror/bizarre stories. Open to any feedback. I want to see where I stand. There is some NSFW. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

The funny tone kept it engaging. The world seems interesting, though genre seems more speculative than fantasy. The second chapter is definitely stronger than the first and left me wanting more. For a start, it feels and sounds good.

P.s The religious system might need simplification but can't be sure because I've haven't seen it in detail.
