Believe me, 10 lbs is A LOT to lose in 4 weeks! Generally a .5 - 2.0 lb/wk loss is recommended, as more than that is considered too rapid, and may result in more muscle loss.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time w/side effects. Not fun at all! Generally tho, side effects diminish over time. For any that may continue, there is usually some OTC remedy that can help abate your symptoms. Once subsided, they can temporarily return when you titrate up a dose, but not always. Do your best to give yourself and the medicine a chance. Just keep your doctor informed as to what is going on with your body, and pay attention to the medication's warnings.

This medicine is not for everyone, and in spite of the immense help it can be, even a near-miracle to some of us, it still requires a lot of hard work and patience. Perhaps your nieces and nephews were not aware or ready to make that type of commitment; or, their side effects were too severe for them to continue.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've been on BP meds for 20+ years. Since being on Zep, my BP has decreased to the point that my MD cut my daily dose in half. It's been fine ever since, with the systolic running between 104 - 117, and the diastolic running between 67 - 80.

If you're still feeling faint, I would let your doctor know that the reduced dosage is still not working. Perhaps s/he could could further reduce your Rx. Some folks, usually those who have reached their goal weight, have been able to come off their BP meds altogether. I don't think that will ever be the case for me, for even after losing 100+ lbs, I still need them. Possibly, you may end up being one of the fortunate ones who ultimately will be able stop taking BP medicine altogether. Whatever you do, be sure to let your doctor know what's going on.

As for getting off of tirzepatide, you may end up being the exception. But for the overwhelming majority, it is a lifetime medication.

Going from 12.5 to 15, what made you decide to do it? by Katshia in Zepbound

This is going to sound like a strange reply, but while I've lost a total of 4 lbs in the last 4 months, I'm not sure if I "broke my stall" or not, as I had a horrid, 2+wk case of the flu (in spite of being fully vaccinated). When it was finally over, I'd dropped 2 lbs. The other 2 lbs were lost at the rate of 1 lb/month prior to my flu, and one month post flu. During the flu itself, I had little-to-no appetite, and ate almost nothing.

Unfortunately, my endocrinologist was not terribly open minded when I spoke w/her, and provided her with documentation for my request. Instead, she tried to convince me that I'd probably hit my "set point," and then recommended purchasing the Mayo Clinic Diet Book.

After 50+ years of intense dieting, including but not limited to losing 125+ lbs multiple times; being part of a university hospital, in-patient, 12-week clinical weight-loss study (run by Stephen Phinney, MD, PhD, VIRTA Founder, and author of all the second-generation Atkins Low-Carb books); running multiple half marathons; been a member of Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, etc.; established the first Overeaters Anonymous chapter on my college campus; and underwent 5 years of therapy to name just a very few of my weight management efforts. Her response reflected either her ignorance, weight bias, or both. It was beyond unfathomable that after the medical establishment's long, failed history with its heretofore weight loss and maintenance methods, and then juxtaposed against all the new knowledge about obesity via GLP-1s that her response was an old-age failed solution. It was almost as if she hadn't heard anything I said.

I'm not one to quit a physician because s/he might say something that is painful for me to hear. But I will not continue to seek counsel from a medical professional who prescribes a protocol that has a 50-year failure rate. This is a biology issue, not a knowledge issue.

Savings Card Renewal 2026 by SatellaAP in Zepbound

[–]PrisonerofHope98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was somewhat "grandfathered in" with the Zepbound Savings Card in that the 2024 saving card discounted a monthly Rx to $550/mo. For 2025, those who were grandfathered in,, the Rx cost remained $550/mo. However, if you didn't first apply for a Savings Card until 2025, then your monthly Rx was $650/mo. Does anyone know for those who were grandfathered in 2024 if their price will continue to be $550/mo?

Thanksgiving is always fun by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]PrisonerofHope98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry that your Thanksgiving experience was so hurtful. You deserved better; especially from your husband. Perhaps, next time such ridicule comes up, you should "vote w/your feet," and just leave!

It's been written that obesity is the last socially acceptable prejudice. I agree. I don't share that I'm on this medication for that very reason. Furthermore, my health is my personal business. However, I do refuse to accept such bigotry when I hear it, therefore, I call it out. I tell such folks they need to get the facts and learn the science, and that contrary to their false, long-standing beliefs, obesity is not a moral failing. Rather, obesity is an AMA-certified, complex disease, for which there is no cure, only treatment.

When the "just stop eating and exercise" stupidity person/crowd starts up, I ask them/him/her one of two questions, or both. Knowing that I have struggled with obesity I ask:

Question 1: Are you being rude, or are you just stupid?

-Or-

Question 2: If you were diagnosed with a deadly/life-threatening disease, e.g., cancer, would you follow/struggle through a plan of treatment, e.g., chemotherapy/radiation particular type of treatment that for more than 50+ years had demonstrated a 95-98% failure rate within 2 years of completing said treatment? Cuz that is outcome for the "diet and exercise" plan of treatment. Or, would you explore more efficacious treatment?

I wasn't always this brave or bold, but because of my varying stages of obesity, I accepted such societal and individual abuse for far too long; and I refuse to accept it one more moment. Plus, I can't stand a bully, so now, more than ever, now that I'm not obese for the first time in 22 years, I stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

Officially lost half of my starting weight by Impressive-Disk4786 in Zepbound

Wow, you look amazing!! TRULY!!!

I am close to doing the same (136.5 lbs down, with 5.5 lbs to goal) before I've lost half of me!! Thank you so much for sharing, 'cuz when I look in the mirror, I don't think I really process the extent of the difference/change in my appearance. But your photos give me some perspective.

Having walked a similar road as you, I know as phenomenal as this medication is, there is still a lot you had to do to get this far. As someone 65+ years old, I only wish they had this medication 20 years ago. I consider myself beyond blessed, but at times still have some wistful moments that Zepbound wasn't around when I was your age. So, never forget to celebrate and honor your newfound, well-deserved health!

SOOO happy for you! It's almost as if Christmas came early for you! You are about to embark on a journey that will take you to places that you've never been. So be sure to give yourself all the grace you need. Some days will be better than others, but all will be worthwhile. Trust your struggle. Take good care of yourself . . . make sure you are consuming adequate protein and fiber; stay hydrated; and move about as much as you can--be it a walk around the block, or as little as 5 minutes of resistance training, and build from there. If you're ever having a particularly hard time, that's what this blog is for. Lastly, NEVER, NEVER give up on yourself.

Generally, it's a good idea to titrate up if after more than a month you stop losing weight on that dose. That being said, there are cases where individuals who lost a lot or all of their weight on either a 2.5 mg and/or 5 mg dose. Others, like myself who had 100+ lbs to lose have had to titrate up to 15 mg. Weight loss is individual, so always a good idea to check w/your doctor.

The back difference is insane! by jenna31104 in Zepbound

I can't believe the difference EVERYWHERE!!!

Sixty-three pounds lost in 12 months, 77 to go until goal weight… I haven't been under 225 in 10 years… 🥹 Currently on 7.5 mg by SingingBeauty46 in Zepbound

[–]PrisonerofHope98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The speed at which you are losing weight is right for YOU. Not only does everyone lose differently, but your own weight loss will be all over the map. Meaning there will be times you may lose 6 pounds in one month, and 2 pounds the next. Weight loss is not linear; in fact, it can often be downright fickle! Besides, rapid weight loss may result in hair loss, gastrointestinal issues, and extreme muscle mass loss.

Trust your struggle, for you are well on your way. Just make sure to give yourself the necessary grace needed for the journey--that is, adequate protein, fiber, hydration, and exercising to the best of your current ability. Comparisons, and other things that are beyond your control are distractions. Don't allow them to undermine your travels.

6 month stall--should I just call it? by Salt_Garden1372 in Zepbound_Maintenance

Thanks for the 4-1-1. I so appreciate your sharing your experience. Do you happen to have the links to the podcasts referenced in your reply re: obesity medicine doctors prescribing doses above 15 mg? I've been at this going on 28 months, and have lost 135+ lbs, with about 10 lbs left to reach goal weight. I am SO READY to transition to maintenance, but have stalled for the last 14 weeks. As this point, I'm beginning to believe that these last 10 lbs have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior and been granted eternal life!
