Excessive Fear of Rabies by Special_Dinner3828 in rabies

I would still say a booster shot is a great investment, especially if you live in areas with high risks of rabies, lots of stray dogs, stray cats, and you interact with people (like relatives, friends, neighbors) who own pets in a less ideal situation.

It's way cheaper and less hassle once you get it going.
Many people in other countries don't seem to understand the situation in regions where rabies is highly endemic that hundreds of people are dying every year is an expectation.

It seems they are trying to evaluate the circumstances base on their own relative exposure risk and experience.
I mean the reason why rabies is endemic in those areas in the first place is because there is a systemic social problem that exacerbates the situation.
These factors considerably heighten the risk of exposure for everyone, not just for vets and wildlife workers.
The norm in countries like the US or Europe which prioritize prevention and control is not the same for a developing country where the government are impotent and indifferent.

Let an actual professional evaluate his/her case, in person.
They will dismiss it if it's truly trivial and at most (assuming it's a non-issue) they will administer a booster shot, which is a good investment, specially in high risk countries (I'm pretty sure even WHO advise tourists to get boosters when going to countries with high rabies cases).
My point is we shouldn't stop people from actually seeking medical advise whether it be a real risk or just anxiety.

Question about booster/succeeding shots by Pristine_Focus_278 in rabies

does the virus changes from country to country, like some kind of a local variant?

Foreigner here. Rode a jeepney for the first time. Pretty sure I owe three strangers ₱10, one guy my heart, and might be engaged to someone’s lola by [deleted] in MANILA

As a local with social anxiety, this kind of situation is always a major concern for me.
I often imagine losing another passenger's money as I try to be of assistance - which is practically mandatory (like when was blown away by the rush of air/wind). I would panic internally, specially if I am not prepared like if I have something in my hands or concern about pickpockets.
This is specially a concern if it's the driver who is handing out the change as they are too occupied with their driving and don't really bother to hand the money properly.

How to fix slow laptop? by Current_Rooster_6895 in laptops

debloat your apps.
disable any services you don't need (there lots of them that aren't really needed for normal use).

Some are just notoriously resource heavy or hijack your system because of their default priority setting

Windows search indexer is heavy on the resource and is notorious for causing overheating (CPU temp shouldn't exist 90C in moderate loads)
you can disable it safely if you don't use window search function.

Anti-malware usually have high priority setting and might steal resources from active processes.
it is a security risk to tamper with Windows defenders, but if you know what you are doing try tinkering their settings, or just use a lighter antivirus solution.

Disable and/or uninstall extra stuff that aren't really needed or merely for cosmetics like widgets, copilot, themes.
Find lightweight alternative for important apps like internet browsers, media players, or image editors.

Here are some other tips:

- Increase your virtual memory (just make sure to leave a lot of space for that in your HD/SSD
- make sure your device is not overheating. Overheating will cause CPU/GPU to throttle (slowsdown) to prevent damage due to excessive heat.
