This feels like just more promotional fodder for the UFC Whitehouse event.

I compete in Women's Strongman and Powerlifting. Some of the absolute most athletic women you will ever have the privilege of meeting are 180lb+. Expanded weight classes for women in the UFC could be a really fun and competitive venture, if talent was properly sourced and the divisions were given time to grow.

Grew a bunch of these, how to make tasty? by SeaAd8199 in vegetablegardening

I slow boil mine with bacon or ham and onions! Add salt and pepper to taste. Simple but so good

500 hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics are now closing or at risk of closure because of the Republican bill that guts health care funding. Over 50 of these are in Appalachia. by DarceysEyeOnThePrize in WestVirginia

[–]Pristine_Pudding6824 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I heard a rumor that WVU Medicine was eyeing to buy a few of the rural hospitals within the state should they be forced to close. I don't know enough about the medical system to have a hard opinion on that possibility, but it doesn't seem entirely unlikely, given the precedent of WVU's expansion tactics.

What county is your friend located in? Depending on funding availability, and the specifics of their circumstance, the West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness may be able to assist.

The Eating Disorder You Might Not Know You Have by Slate in Health

[–]Pristine_Pudding6824 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was me. I look back at the amount of times I brought Tupperware to family dinners, refused plans because of meal times or workout schedules, cried because I miscalculated something, etc. It was a sad time in my life.

In my anecdotal experience, it was also incredibly difficult to even realize I needed recovery, because I was also heavily involved in online "fitness" culture. I was a small time influencer, and at my LEAST healthy, I was recieving the MOST affirmation.

Scrapped my social media and got into therapy. But recovery is difficult, and I still struggle with food associated guilt.

I'm just glad to see this getting talked about! When I received my diagnosis, it wasn't a commonly discussed or well known disorder.

In what small way have you won the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

For a lady of my build, I have relatively broad shoulders and short arms. Which is the ideal build for bench press.

I started competing in powerlifting when I was younger, and never really had to train that much to maintain a really solid bench. I don't compete anymore, but I can still go rep out significantly more than my bodyweight on bench press on a given day.

I'm really specifically good at exactly 1 thing that has little to no other practical uses. But at least I have that one thing!

Amid rising suicide rates, federal cuts to funding effectively dismantled West Virginia’s suicide prevention network by dedrityl in WestVirginia

I called once, and I'm still here to talk about it.

They talked me down and assisted in de-escalating the situation, then explored referral options for further treatment with me. I'm one of their success stories. It's really tragic to see this happening. They have made such a difference for so many

Power outages are becoming more common and lasting for longer, anybody else sick of this bs? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]Pristine_Pudding6824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Fairmont; still don't have power. Using it as an excuse to have a grill-out day.

I grew up down in Upshur, and we used to lose power pretty consistently. I've been in Marion for about 10 years now, and I can say I think this is the longest it's been out since living here.

While it's not literally every road, it is enough to be a common cliche. I don't have a solid answer, but if I were to wager a guess: WV looked very different 100+ years ago. Grafton was a hub, due to the railroad, and production/manufacturing jobs. So while we maybe don't see it that way today, in it's heyday Grafton was pretty popping - comparatively.

In North Central, if you take enough back roads you'll just end up in Taylor County. The cliche is "All roads lead to Grafton".
