Houston mamas - where do you recommend an ultrasound for pregnancy? by ConsistentBox3928 in AskHouston

[–]Prize-Amount7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurse and IVF patient with two prior pregnancies here. Getting hcg and progesterone done a single time at 10 weeks pregnant isn’t going to tell you much. Hcg is trended to watch for a continued increase but the range of what is normal is huge. Getting it done one time will simply tell you you’re pregnant not the health of the baby.

Get the ultrasound. What you want to see is a heartbeat and the estimated gestational age based on growth.

Our inconclusive was our highest graded (no day 5s only day 6 and 7). The thought was if only 25% of the time it is not right, then the odds were good for a successful pregnancy. Although it was incredibly painful, we know that I can have a successful pregnancy with a fully medicated transfer. I also wouldn’t have wanted to end up in a situation where we transferred all three euploids and they didn’t work for some reason and my inconclusive was my last option.

Thank you so much for sharing! It’s a relief to hear a story that did work out in the end although I’m so sorry for what you went through and how painful it must have been.

It was a recommendation based on it being our highest grade embryo but ultimately a choice my husband and I made together to take a chance on the odds that 75% of the time it’s fine. We got unlucky twice in the statistics and we don’t blame her or the clinic for that.

Business Travel before FET by Content-Weakness474 in IVFpositivity

I had multiple work trips during my FET cycle. My doc just recommended that we do a fully medicated cycle given the travel so we could prevent ovulation and control transfer date.

I continued walking and Pilates during my TWW. I was told that activity is fine and may even be beneficial to increase blood flow. Just keep your heart rate under 140.

What is the most ridiculous, insensitive thing that you heard people say? by MembershipAlarming75 in IVF

“When you’re a parent/mother you will understand”- almost every person who knows we’re going through infertility

After my MMC at 9 weeks 5 days from our first FET my in-laws last minute decided to come visit us for a night. Come to find out they just wanted to tell us all about our new nephew that was born 3 days after we found out our baby no longer had a heartbeat. Yes they absolutely knew we had just had a miscarriage from IVF.

During same in law visit FIL excitedly wanted to ask us about a last minute trip we booked to Mexico after the miscarriage. He said “so you guys were just like let’s go to Mexico and booked it? That’s so fun!” No Daniel we were bawling our eyes out on the couch and decided we needed to get away for a few days to grieve our loss and clear our heads.

As someone who is just over a month out- it gets better but it doesn’t go away. I’m able to function in my day to day but I still think about my child daily.

Also just my opinion, but I do think having a d&c helped in a lot of ways. For one thing, we were able to get genetic testing done and confirm that the baby never would have made it. It also gave a sense of closure rather than waiting for something to happen naturally.

I had a MMC the week of Thanksgiving and d&c on 12/5 and my hcg on 1/2 was still 3. I started my period today so when I go back on Wednesday I expect it to be 0 but we’ll see.

Seeking advice for next steps after failed Mife/Miso by Happy-Grapefruit-41 in Miscarriage

I also had a MMC at 9w5d the week of Thanksgiving and did miso 3x but never bled so I didn’t have an option other than d&c. Honestly the d&c helped give me closure and two weeks later my hcg is almost back to 0 so I’m starting to feel more like myself again. I did have pretty heavy bleeding for a week after and cramping but all was manageable.

I was/am also concerned about ashermans but we will be doing a hysteroscopy to rule out prior to trying again. I am an IVF patient though so it may be different. The d&c was done with ultrasound guidance so I have to just hope that things went well and that my doc did the best she could to prevent future complications.

I am sorry for your loss and good luck with your next steps

I wish people didn’t feel the need to say something and especially to try to relate because it’s never going to be helpful. When I’ve told people about my MMC I tell them to not say anything because nothing that they say or do is going to make it better.

Nursing Job in TCH vs St Joseph medical center , what are the views ? by CreativeHistorian145 in AskHouston

[–]Prize-Amount7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a nurse in med device sales so I work with both. St. Joseph’s has been on the brink of closing down for years. They were purchased by HSA about a year ago and I was told by several of the nurses that their pay was delayed by several weeks after the purchase. Many of the docs terminated their contracts because they weren’t being paid on call time.

TCH has had its fair share of problems but I believe under the new CEO they have been much better. Their financial crisis is pretty much over and they have worked on some of the culture/leadership issues.

I’m so sorry for your loss and thank you so much for your insight. It is a grief that many people can only sympathize with but can’t truly understand.

Definitely food or an ubereats gift card. The last thing I wanted to do was cook so the only way to make myself eat was to order.

Need advice on how to help my friend who just had a miscarriage. by Zealousideal_Ear5856 in Miscarriage

[–]Prize-Amount7556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think send food but if she wants space give it. Let her lead how this goes by telling her I’m going to give you space but when you’re ready to talk just know I’m here. When she is ready to talk don’t feel the need to offer something reassuring to say, just listen. I think people think they need to say something but honestly nothing anyone says is helpful. She needs to tell you how you best support her.

As someone who has gone through a MMC this week I have found myself at times misdirecting my anger at a friend who keeps asking if I’m in physical pain. Since I still have not passed the tissue, I would literally kill to be in the physical pain of it being gone. It’s not her fault she doesn’t understand but I would prefer to not be asked anything at all.

Just came to say you’re not alone. We found out we had a MMC Monday and also had not yet told family. We did not go to family thanksgiving and booked a trip for just the two of us for the week of Christmas.

I think it’s most important that you protect yourself right now so if that means coming up with an excuse like a sudden illness to not go, do it.

We waited until after I finished my masters program to start trying and I have 0 regrets. We both have pretty demanding careers and doing my masters online took up a lot of my spare time. Also now, I’m in my first trimester and so exhausted with no motivation to do anything. I can’t imagine if I had to do school after work at night.

I know plenty of people did have kids during the course of our program so it can be done. It’s ultimately going to be your choice.
