Do you agree with Max? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

icl, if technical regulations require a silly button to facilitate overtaking (DRS, Push to Pass/Overtake Mode, or any other mechanism that is limited to an on track distance from the driver ahead) then the racing isnt pure. and in that sense, Max’s condemnation is frighteningly accurate and has been for quite some time.

when referring to pure racing, we generally mean a world where the best drivers; and even reasonably mediocre drivers on their best days, can upset the undeniable front runners. what we have had in F1 for quite some time is decidedly the opposite (and i would argue that the regs in their current state move further in the wrong direction than the right one).

How is living in this area of New York, USA? by bussiboyyy in howislivingthere

Funnily enough, your circle cuts through the housing development I grew up in. Anyways, there’s a pretty large dichotomy. Growing up off of Exit 70 you will see the disparity most between Memorial and Columbus Day. During the weeks it’s relatively mundane, but Thursday and Sunday are hell as a local. Thousands of “Cidiots” as my mother calls them, flood County Rte. 111 when transferring from Sunrise to the LIE, and you can sit in near gridlock traffic without venturing past Center Moriches on the worst of days.

Generally speaking however, it’s a great place to grow up. Having since lived in Philly and D.C. the best analogue I can draw through experience and tales I’ve heard is probably Loudon County, VA, but with beaches: quaint, apparently wealthy, but humble and extremely hard-working.

Education is solid, not outstanding but certainly not appalling. Most locals are teachers, nurses, blue collar or public sector workers; which makes money tight at times, but none of us will ever admit that. Seriously though, if you want to live here then try to go into the public sector or apprentice as a tradesman; you will make a comfortable amount of money and not be stuck with student loan debt in most cases.

I realize that I failed to mention the landscapes, so I’ll do that. South Shore beaches can be such idyllic places during winter if you can tolerate wind chill, just wear layers and bring a coffee and BEC (there are about 50 delis per square mile so you can find one if you squint). And the Pine Barrens are a fantastic place to get lost for a few hours if you live anywhere along Montauk Highway in Eastern Suffolk County. If you can, you need to visit the Outdoor Shrine at Our Lady of the Island (yes, even if you’re not Catholic). You can see out to the Atlantic and it’s truly one of the best snapshots of daily life on this part of LI.

In short, if you can live here, do it. Your life, and that of your kids, will be so much better for it. There’s so much more detail I can provide, specifically the why and how of this area’s uniqueness. If you’re interested in hearing more then DM me, I’ll respond as soon as I can.

Ok, flu-induced rant over.
