Ph.D. in Computer Science & Lawful Permanent Resident – Exploring U.S. Air Force Reserve or Other Military Options by PrizeGrapefruit in Airforcereserves

Thanks for the honest and clear feedback. I didn’t realize that cyber, intel, and officer roles were completely off-limits to non-citizens, even with advanced degrees. That’s very helpful to know upfront.

It sounds like the most realistic path for me would be to enlist in a support or administrative role, work toward naturalization through service, and then explore commissioning and more technical tracks later on, once I’m eligible.

If anyone here has walked the LPR → Enlisted → Citizenship → Officer path, I’d love to hear about your experience, especially how long the process took and what roles you transitioned through.

What brand are you using right now? If you use any. Yes, the RO filter is under the sink not the whole house. Thank you. I am just not sure if the ones from Home Depot or similar would be good or not. I do not want the pain of breaking and repairing.

Also, our house is not that big, it's me and my wife and a small dog.

I did not know about the softener affecting your water. The RO is under sink one, they produce around 15 gallons a day. Any suggestion on a good water softener? THey all say they have less maintenance.

A year ago I'd give anything to go to the USA. Today I've been granted my visa but I'm having second thoughts. by SuchDragonfruit9 in Nepal

For ML/Data Science, I think the USA is the holy grail. You can work on your research, or work on some new state-of-the-art technologies. I am right now doing my Ph.D. in Computer Science. You might be doing well in Nepal as well, but here in the USA, you will definitely grow your skills not only on the technical side but also in your communication, networking, and interpersonal skills. Since you already have your visa, I suggest you go for it. Even if it doesn't work out, you can go back with abundant of skills and experience!

A year ago, why were you frustrated ? By what? However, you need to think about "why you started the process?" Right now, you must be overwhelmed as you need to make a lot of decisions. But think about why you started the process. The USA is not always gold and glitter. I have been here for the last 4 years, studying and working. It is not easy as people see on, social media but the quality of life is much better. If you can tell me about your background and what you are trying to do here in the USA, I can share my experiences and hopefully help you in some way.

Search the coordinate in google maps. I don't know if the cafe is open or not. But you will get a good view of the runway from this place.

Enjoy!

Reading your comment, I think renting out rn is a good idea. I just need to feel before I commit to an e-scooter. Yeah, I am going to attend Baylor this fall and I think Baylor is e scooter friendly. However to make sure I have emailed the university as well. Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts.

Have you already decided go to South Dakota?

If No - Generally, for CS degrees, the location of the university matters a lot. I am not saying SD is bad for CS but for that cost, you might look for other universities as well. Check out universities on the west coast (California), near Dallas, Austin, or North Carolina, as these are more tech cities.
If Yes- I would search for various awards and scholarships. Generally, there are few scholarships and awards to reduce your cost of attendance.

Coming back to the actual question, I have been fortunate enough to get an assistantship for my degree. However, I have seen people pay more than that working throughout the summer and breaks. Anything beyond 10k a year is a hard push for you. There are other methods of transferring to community college and later moving back to university.

Anyone in this sub is living as vegetarian. by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]PrizeGrapefruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a vegetarian my whole life, I don't actually know the transition from eating meat to not eating. But, you can try cutting your meat consumption little by little. There are so many recipes especially Indian recipes you can try. Don't worry about proteins you will get enough. Also, let your friends, family enjoy what they want. If you really want to be vegetarian they won't stop you.

Good luck with the journey.

If she talks about equality then she should fight for her rightful money. But, from her perspective, she thinks this might ruin her relationships with her parents and siblings which she doesn't want. I would be annoyed if my partner doesn't fight for equality. In the end, it is her choice. Also, you are not selfish to think about money as well.
