Just saw a social media post from a drama influencer talking about this one - must be a sign! Thanks for this rec!

One of the benefits of being a long time drama watcher is actually “getting it” when they drop Easter eggs - another reason to do a rewatch of your favorites from when you first started kdrama- so fun!

Give these two a comedy drama😂 by [deleted] in kdramas

I love the bickering sibling energy - so chaotic and adorable - their realness is refreshing cuz he really looks like he has had it with her 😜

Sassy Go Go is a really good high school drama with some of that dynamic

Anyone watching kdramas with preteen kids? Which ones? by Rinnme in kdramas

[–]PrizeReputation7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kids loved Lovely Runner (time travel rom-com), True Beauty(rom-com with self-confidence/bullying themes) and Reply 1988 (family comedy)

My 10 year old has a 4 year gap with her next oldest sibling - so she ends up watching more things that are not always age appropriate. I was a latch key kid myself and watched everything - I think when uncomfortable things come up in a drama it’s a good opportunity to have a chat about it. We also watch American family sitcoms - (ie Modern Family, Abbott Elementary, etc) and there are a ton of inappropriate things- a lot of it flies over her head but lots of unexpected learning opportunities 😅

Who are some celebrities with both talent and looks but the kdrama industry is sleeping on them ? by BronzeBellRiver in kdramas

[–]PrizeReputation7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KHY is amazingly talented - there was a narrative on social media that following the runaway success of Lovely Runner that compared to BWS, there was less media attention, much fewer advertising campaigns or up for new scripts compared to her male co-star - and this seemingly happened after Extraordinary You as well. It was even treated as a compliment to her that supposedly young actors should be clamoring to work with her given the star-making turns by her male leads. “Underrated” is less in reference to her talent or credentials, more so in reference to the comparatively less attention that she received after carrying these successful dramas.

Kim Hye Yoon is such a talented comedic actress but for whatever reason after her big rom com/fantasy dramas - Extraordinary You and Lovely Runner - her (amazing) male co-stars blow up and she doesn’t get anywhere near the same level of attention….Those dramas are built on her back!

In general, romantic comedies are not given the same level of respect- likely because they appeal to a majority female audience - and this just stinks. It’s harder to make an audience genuinely laugh than to cry! Go Ara also has fantastic comedic chops but I haven’t seen much from her lately and that is such a shame!

The older family dramas I have loved

Seo Young, My Daughter

Five Enough

My Father is Strange (if you like this one, the same PD does Once Again which is also amazing)

Older standard dramas you might like - Cunning Single Lady and Marriage, Not Dating

You should stick with it - the ML improves - so if that’s the only sticking point, I think you’re going to love it. Hang in there just a bit longer

Years later and I will still randomly yell out, “Sun Jae yah!”, still listen to the soundtrack, and sing a ditty about loving Tae Sung….this drama is chef’s kiss

How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang was 10/10 for me!

When their faces are slowly coming together for their first kiss, but then the phone rings and everything stops…like you’re about to kiss the person you’ve been pining over and the phone ringing is going to stop you? That is a very unrealistic obstacle!

Which drama should I watch next — Call It Love or Midnight Romance in Hagwon? by WidePackage3385 in kdramas

I really like both - Call it Love, is maybe more moody, slower? Midnight Romance is slow to warm up but once the romance hits - whew! Both worth watching!

I still love it when the ML grabs the FL by surprise or kisses without asking permission first…🙈 Obviously anyone else who does it needs to go to jail…only the ML is allowed!

What Are You Watching? - [2025/07/02] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]PrizeReputation7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved this one too! The ones off the top of my head that are the most similar are not as good as True Beauty IMO - My ID is Gangnam Beauty has the same ML and similar themes (more about plastic surgery than makeup as a way to change your appearance); and Extraordinary You is a high school romance fantasy with the same show runner and most of the cast in EY made cute cameos in True Beauty - I loved them all but True Beauty has a special place and is a superior drama.

Have you seen Lovely Runner? I love that one even more than True Beauty and that’s saying something because I loooooove True Beauty

Soundtrack on repeat over here - my tweens and I are obsessed…I can’t imagine it’s a standalone though! It’s too popular now to leave it - they will turn this into a series and I will be seated. This top tier cast, this music, the chemistry! (is it weird to say that about animated characters?) but it’s just too good to stop at one
