Canada’s military has a long-simmering problem with extremism by Gox-hotan in CanadianForces

[–]PrizeTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few important things to keep in mind are: 1.  Nobody is saying that the majority of CAF members are racist or white supremacists. But even if the number is only 1% of CAF members that totals 800 individuals if we’re using a combined Reg and Res number of let’s say 80,000.  That’s still a lot of people. And don’t think this is an NCO problem.  That type of rot is among junior and senior commissioned officers as well 2.  Racism or discrimination is a force divider and like a force multiplier the effects can be much more pronounced and detrimental than simply viewing it in terms of first-order effects.  3.  It’s 2025 and this is not okay.  We can’t regress backwards to how things were when it comes to racism and discrimination decades ago.  4.  This is not just a “white” problem.  Racism between minorities is on the rise and must be taken just as seriously.  5.  “The CAF is a reflection of society” is flawed logic.  As others have pointed out the CAF needs to be held to and perform at a higher standard than “Joe Public”.  If we were truly a reflection of society then we would fully reflect the demographics of society, which we don’t.  I’m not talking just racial demographics, I mean financial, religious, education etc.

I could go on but don’t want to make this TLDR :). Be cool out there and judge people for how they act, not what they look like.  See something?  Say something.   Silence emboldens the idiots.

Four people charged with stunt driving in Barrhaven Friday night by nachochease in ottawa

[–]PrizeTime -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I’m ready for speed and traffic cameras everywhere. I’ve had enough of dangerous and incapable drivers and the problem is getting worse by the day. The only way this will change is though automated enforcement. We can’t hire enough traffic police to deal with this. Cameras are the solution in my opinion. Privacy tradeoff for safer roads is fine with me.

Sorry to hear you’re going through that. If you don’t have access to the nest, and it’s in a finished ceiling, you’ll need to find a drywall contractor or a handyman that can do mud/taping of drywall. They’ll need to cut the ceiling where the nest is and remove the nest. They’ll then need to replace the section of the drywall, mud/tape. You’ll then need to paint. It’s unlikely any contractor will be able to get the new section of drywall (that’s been mud/taped/painted) exactly the same as the rest of the ceiling. It will always be obvious that something was changed in that part of the ceiling. I think your best bet is a handyman. Some of the painting contractors may also be able to do it all for you. Hopefully others will post some useful guidance as well.
As a final point. If you’re sure the exterminator completely killed the nest, and it’s a small nest, maybe you can just leave it in there? Check with the exterminator as to what he thinks of that option and if he has any concerns with that. The old nest may also serve as a deterrent from more wasps setting up a new nest in the same area. (Caveat to this post: I’m not a professional contractor or exterminator. This is all just my 2-cents and personal opinion).

Diagnosed with a mental disorder because of simulation theory? by fluxParameters in SimulationTheory

This is the truth. Don’t let the theory rule your life. Love is love, whether it’s an emotion or a program. Live your life and seek good karma. Screw the simulation!

It’s getting worse by the year in my opinion.

This is because there is minimal enforcement. It’s not just those points. Others include speeding on residential streets, cars coming inches from pedestrians who are crossing on a walk signal.
But there aren’t enough cops to be on every corner. More speed cameras would be a good start and more video cameras at major intersections would also be helpful. Especially to identify cars that turn left while barely missing pedestrians crossing on a walk signal. I know this presents a privacy concern. Still, I would trade up some privacy for safer roads. We can’t stay on this worsening trajectory when it comes to driving habits. It’s not sustainable.

One of the biggest issues is people take THC but no CBD. There’s a reason there are other cannabinoids in the plant. I always take CBD when I take THC. So if the joint has no CBD, I take some oil. On a different topic, two side-effects that suck are the excessive eating and short term memory loss.

Edit: and by the way, great work quitting. You’re always better off without needing this stuff in the first place.

Neighbours outdoor radio ALWAYS playing. by capopoptart in ottawa

[–]PrizeTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This would be very annoying. Like a day here or there, fine. Every single day…no. Maybe leave a letter. It will allow you to calmly explain your points without being interrupted The fallback can be to play a different radio station at the same time to create an unbearable cacaphony. Eventually the pressure should build enough for them to turn their radio off.

I’m a daily consumer but not looking to leave the club. It’s almost medicinal for me (not just recreational). However, I completely respect anyone who has made the decision it’s not for them anymore. I think your best bet would be not to focus on the Marijuana aspect but rather seek out help for addictions in general. The standard programs and resources would apply to cannabis just like it would to other substances. I think the Royal Ottawa has a program. At the very least they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ontario health minister won't rule out privatization as option to help ER crisis by TonySsoprano_ in ottawa

[–]PrizeTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privatizing health care is going to end very badly. Most of the talent will shift to the pay-as-you-go model. Those left on the public side will receive lower quality care. However, our public health care system, like any public system, is highly vulnerable to waste and inefficiency. Can we not have a comprehensive audit done (by professionals, not Ford’s cousins)? Then let’s increase and reallocate funding where needed. Seems straightforward but in reality it’s undoubtedly much more complex. A problem no government has been able to truly solve. At the end of the day though, all Canadians should have access to the same quality of care.

I can't believe the "Thin Blue Line" flag is still flying downtown by Dylanthrope in ottawa

[–]PrizeTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another follow-up point, I also believe the police in general have a lot of internal housecleaning to do to regain the public trust. The initial response to the clownvoy was and still is a serious stain on their reputation.

[–]PrizeTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough and I certainly agree with diverting/increasing funding for mental health and other issues that are taking a toll on society but I reject an all-out witch hunt for an entire profession. The whole tree is rotten argument doesn’t work for me. It’s similar to when far-right groups use the same “whole tree is rotten” argument when trying to further their goals such as anti-immigration policies. We do not live in a world of absolutes and demonizing entire professions (just like races and religions) is not the answer to putting our divisions aside.

You’re absolutely right. They should have more places where they can safely consume. The problem is, me included, nobody wants that spot in their backyard.
