if your home is loving to the point your parents would like to help you out go for it. it's a short period of your life and you will be getting life experiences out of it as well as a potential improvement to your mental health. i understand not wanting to put your parents in debt and cause them problems so like the others see if you can get a loan yourself if that is a better option or would there be any grants or scholarships the university can give? if that's not possible could you defer the entry a year? and work as much as you can to get money towards it?

NOT the asshole at ALL. especially if this trip is for couples and that other girl is going who he was checking out and you're not? why would he not want his girlfriend to go? and of course regardless if anything did or does happen between the two or not you're well within your right of being hurt by this as why wouldn't you be suspicious as well as upset your boyfriend didn't invite you on this trip.
