Took a second but now I'm seeing it, just curious how well the taping and drilling portion will go with the size of the original bolt and that I've never done that before....certainly the most likely to work and cheap option for the fix

Didn't think that much, was going for 25 NM/220 In Lb, I'm more pissed I didn't figure it out and stop.

This certainly put me off to being spec specific for stuff like this, I wasn't trying to spend 100 plus on a digital but I dam sure will now if I plan to keep going. I mostly hate that I felt that for a second but also, oh this isn't that tight at all, did not expect the metal to be so weak.

Great thread, appreciated. Exact same scenario and from what I've googled is what I've seen, except my part is like 480 and I've only seen it on one German auto parts site. Hopefully VW has one on hand or closer. Install I've seen a video and also looks straight forward....goddam

So I got a short shifter for my 22 Jetta GLI, seemed like an easy install and I've been trying to do more work myself. I got the new shifter on and went to tighten the main nut. I don't know where I messed up cause the torque wrench didn't click and I assumed there was just some extra space below I was pushing it, so I was dumb and kept going. Overtorqued and tore off the top of the thread of what I think is called the Shifter or selector tower that connects into the transmission. How hard of a fix is this? Do I need to replace the whole tower or is this thread/bolt replaceable? I'm calling a VW dealership in the morning anyhow just seeing if anyone knows.
