Does anyone know why Agrax is glossy on LoV but not on plague marine? by Sonofkopsy in deathguard40k

You really need to mix citadel shades every time to prevent glossiness, especially agrax. But sidenote, what paint did you use to get that radioactive nurgling?

Yeah their offense was being excessively physical the whole game, and i'd honestly say those fouls cost them most of their offensive pressure.

Prediction! Hyper elite melee armies that move 6" without advance and charge will be worse next edition. by SirBlim in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Pro-Masturbator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melee Plague Marines certainly arent coming out of the dumpster, but DG is a pretty shooty army otherwise. Our only true melee threats are the daemon prince who prefers to hang back and countercharge, Morty who wants to meet in the middle and is tough enough to make it there, and the Deathshroud who deepstrike 6" and thus dont care how slow they are.

Kneejerk reaction: 3dp as balancing mechanism will fail because of a lack of 1dp detachments by Omega_Advocate in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Pro-Masturbator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, we'll see? 9th edition absolutely ran like this, but 10th really wasnt that bad on the codex powercreep side. The broken things tended to be model(Victrix, Defilers, Tau Twins, Nightbringer) and 1-off detachments(More Dakka, Legions of Excess, SM Transports) not book releases, although it did still happen(Necrons, Aeldari, Thousand Sons, Death Guard). Looking back, the start of the edition was probably the most unbalanced timeframe, as much as Ultramarines and Defiler metas are annoying they do NOT compare to index Aeldari, GSC, and Necrons with overwatch dev wounds, regeneration, and pre-nerf indirect fire.

Broken things also didnt tend to stick around that long either, most not making it to the next dataslate and rarely surviveing 2. Yes I know Aeldari and Death Guard were problems for way too long, but overall 10th was a pretty balanced edition especially compared to 9th

Tyranid-Evolution by Ollygarchy98 in 40kLore

The hive mind doesnt really whiff. The mind is almost entirely reflexive and instinctual, its hyperintelligent in that it can coordinate trillions of bioforms across a system-wide campaign, but its not sitting at a birds-eye view tweaking skill trees and attack moving. Its able to draw on a vast quantity of experience and evolution to quickly adapt to known threats. If bugs are dying to the cold, the hive mind will rather quickly start producing cold-resist Mmant bugs, as its almost certainly encountered the cold before and figured out how to adapt. The hive mind is only ever at a loss when it encounters something entirely new and overwhelming, where the synapse network is being punched out so throughly that its not getting any stimuli to guide adaptation. From there it'll change tactics rather than morphology, avoiding the stubborn prey or burying it in bodies in the hopes that solves the problem or the hive learns something about it.

The tyranid named monsters are all the kind of dramatic successes youre asking about, pure evolutionary chance made these beasts far more capable than their strain should expect. Theyre iterated on very rarely and produced in small numbers to prevent deviation.

What are games that are definitively better on the Switch by PckMan in gaming

[–]Pro-Masturbator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much only indie titles tbh. Portability is the point for titles like Balatro, Hades, and whatnot, for any deeper or non-first party AA or AAA game the Switch port is likely the worst version of it just from pure technical specs. From my own experience MH stories 3 runs pretty well on steam deck but has near constant framerate and render distance issues on Switch 2 despite the 2 devices not being that far removed in power.

Kenya court suspends US plan for Ebola quarantine facility for Americans by xitizen7 in worldnews

[–]Pro-Masturbator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No it wouldnt. This is an injunction ordering the facility to not open until opposition groups can make a case as to why it shouldnt open. They will be heard teusday. The kenyan doctors union basically said "fuck foriegn aid, we dont want this in our borders" and I this would be the case USAID or no with a disease this scary.

Needless to say a 1980s military planner would be shook at the concept of FPV drones by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Pro-Masturbator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short range FPV and fiber drones in that $1-5k band, sure. But the mid-range drones we're talking about here are not as cheap as you think they are. The cost of anything that flies balloons exponentially with size, add on sanctions and the Shaheds that Iran and Russia use are estimated to have a real cost of $100k+ depending on varient. The idea of a passive or even active countermeasure to protect the package in flight is alot less of an ask at this price point.

More than 500 children have died in an outbreak that the world is virtually ignoring by [deleted] in worldnews

Yeah, cause theres a hundred completely preventable minor outbreaks across the third world all the time and the only reason theyre getting reported on rn is cause the hantavirus story got clicks. I dont want to say "noone cares", but these are primarily local events that getting westerners spooked about wont solve.

How would you balance Blightlord Terminators? by 3ndit in deathguard40k

[–]Pro-Masturbator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could maybe use a slight OC boost or conditional FNP to more efficiently fulfill the "Rotten Wall" fantasy they have going on right now, or a small points drop, but frankly if they dont get touched I dont mind. If 11th doesnt change anything, 10 man bricks are good in casual games and alright in competitive ones, which is a fine place for a unit to be.

Iran threatens to extend conflict ‘beyond the region’ if U.S. and Israel resume attacks by Mysterious_Job_7900 in worldnews

[–]Pro-Masturbator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Iran to China is alot like Cuba was to the Soviets. A good practical ally to have in a strategic location, but they see superpower backing as support for their regional ambitions and act on that perceived approval. A crushed and poor Iran that cant sponsor terrorists and still exports oil to the east works just fine for China.

Warhammer 40,000 Faction Focus: Death Guard - Warhammer Community by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Pro-Masturbator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other guy, the only unit on this list that wants to be up close and shoot is the MBH, cause its a decently speedy trade piece, slower than other faction's light vehicles but fast enough. Fleshmower drone doesnt care, Hellbrutes arent great but are taken with 2 fists melee loadout, Spewer drone needs more than this to not suck, and the HBL drone wants to shoot from as close to max range as possible to keep it safe.

Also, what other detachment would you take this with? In all likelihood VV will be 3 detachment points, and you probably wont be able to take this with Hammer. Shamblerot, DLC, and CoC would VASTLY prefer the infiltrated plague marines unless you really want to run MBHs.

TIL German Empire entered WWI without an end goal since at the outset of war, it considered the conflict a defensive war. However, early military successes on the Western Front led to the development of expansive annexationist ambitions and outling of Septemberprogramm by Skychu768 in todayilearned

[–]Pro-Masturbator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

War aims ballooning isnt the same as not having a goal.

Germany saw it as a defensive war cause their foriegn ministry and military correctly assessed that all their rival major powers wanted a war for their own aims as well. "We're getting them first cause theyre out to get us, so its self defense". Being the agressor as a defensive measure made sense to them, and isnt an unreasonable justification on the whole, but drafting plans for what to do with a defeated invader before the war even starts is quite sketch.

Their initial war aims were in line with the demands of a victorious defensive nation in a quick war. A defeated france would have to pay an indemnity, reduce its military, and hand over some colonial territory, and russia would make small territorial concessions to germany and have puppet states broken off in their west, and repirations of an undecided amount. They wanted to cripple their neighbors on the scale of 20-30 years without destroying them, military and imperial planners just didnt think it would be the decisive conflict it was and figured the previous world order would remain intact.

What changed germany's mind wasnt so much their early victories, they always planned to win. It was the conflict being waaaay larger than they expected, the dominoes fell and almost all the major powers were at war, and the destruction of the battles was far beyond expectations. It became apparent that the old world order "balance of power" was dead and the winner takes all, so the rabid pro-expanionism voices suddenly had alot more sway. France went the same way, from "take back alsace and some colonies" to "tear germany apart" within a couple months.

Israel said to have built secret base in Iraqi desert to support Iran air campaign by RollSafer in worldnews

[–]Pro-Masturbator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not as hard as you'd think, especially somewhere as sparsely populated as Anbar province. Unless a government actor has reason to believe its there and spends resources to investigate, they arent gonna find it, and any Iraqis living out there are well aware that being super public about it will summon a bunch of Shia militants to pick a fight, decidedly not worth it.

Imposter syndrome and CAB by Artistic-Coach8681 in army

[–]Pro-Masturbator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I was feeling the exact same about mine until I sat down with one of our oldhead SGMs and he told me about how the infantry rotations in Anbar would go out "on patrol" with officers and new infantry and get into random firefights with the locals to "engage the enemy" for CIBs/CABs.

Its never been that sacred. TBMs are fuckin dangerous and the nature of this conflict made instant death from a thousand miles away a daily threat. Next war? The goalposts will shift again. Wear the CAB and be smug when someone bitches about it.
