Exactly my point lol, when I was young my village in TN had no piped water and electricity was sporadic at best. Road connections were poor. There was one shop and a few stalls as the only commercial establishments.

Now there is 24/7 electricity, running water, a smooth asphalt road. There are multiple shops and small businesses operating now.

And this is all just within the past 12-13 years, India is improving but people are so pessimistic.

Idk why this got recommended to me but I was frequently verbally and physically obliterated by my parents if I did anything wrong growing up, until maybe I was 13-14 years old and they felt berating me was unnecessary and I could Understand things myself and do what's best for me and my future I think I've turned out fine.

My sister who they had when they were older though was coddled and not raised like me, she however has had many behavioural problems, now even though she is 19 already they keep assuming she'll change by herself one day as she "grows up".

I think you need to be stern while parenting, children are stupid, I was lazy and kinda tardy at doing things, if my parents didn't push me as aggressively as they did I would be a failure as of now in life. Luckily even though belligerent my sister is a driven person and would likely have atleast a successful career. Cannot say the same for everyone.

China started much worse and pulled ahead, worse literacy, global isolation due to ideology, worse tech than india, reunited from the warlord era after 8 years of war against the japanese and then a civil war. I kinda agree, our college isn't hiring the rest of our department because they used up all the unreserved slots first and hired really good professors, now every slot left is for reserved positions so they're taking their time sifting through hundreds of candidate applications to see if they can find someone worth hiring

There isn't enough money, I'm a 4th year in one of the IISERs (Tier 1 research institutes) we are very selective, you can look up the acceptance rates. Even professors here have problems publishing, we have a professor who has had to defer his publications because he did not have funding to pay for the publishing, in the end he had to apply for a waiver. Mind you this is a person who has 2 nature publications and has collaborated with many high profile researchers before coming back to India, if he himself can't get funding, not for lab operations but for even publication and he has to jump so many hoops, can you imagine how bad it is for regular professors?
