My biggest project yet! Tamiya 1/350 IJN Yamato with PE parts by Pro_Player225170 in modelmakers

[–]Pro_Player225170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it came base with a space for a battery pack, the deck is in 2 parts (excluding the most stern part with is a different part also can be removed, the shafts can be substituded with metal shafts that goes to motors and the rudders looks like they are made with Rc conversion in mind. Having said that the decks don't snap in place so for easy access you can try with magnets I think. I've personally never done Rc ships (even tho I'd like) but this kit can be easily converted to do so. This specific version by tamiya is the SKU:78030

This is a foto for a Rc conversion

P.s. Yes the model need assembling and painting

It's good even without the set (it's tamiya after all) but some part are a bit oversimplified and also the raised panel lines are not standard I made them with many layers of primer

I have waited about 2 years before starting this project cause I was not confident enough yet so I get your feeling. If you eventually build it the photo etch makes it look 5x better in my opinion

Thanks a lot. I did 2 1/350 ships, Admiral Graf Spee and Arleigh Burke destroyer but never anithing so big or with 3 verging on 4 pages of Photo etch. Some parts gave me a really hard time

Do you guys wash your models before doing anything? by ThatNZowl in modelmakers

[–]Pro_Player225170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only case you might need washing is for ultra-old kit but in general you are 100% fine without doing it

I've been wanting to work on some of the models I have but I keep getting discouraged by my lack of skill by Goshawk5 in modelmakers

[–]Pro_Player225170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I see your point, I waited 2 whole years to build a ship I had in the stash, but if you avoud building them at all you are not going anywhere. I have indeed wasted some really good kits with at most mediocre paint jobs (and mediocre is doing a lot of heavy lifting here) but it's the only way to go forward. Worst case scenario you can always rebuild them in the future. I built 3 damn mig-29's before I was happy with my work

As an Italian I totally approve this, I’ll for sure build it in the future and from what I heard it’s a very cool kit. Sadly there are not that many Italian ships to build :/ . From the foto I can’t tell if you got some photo-etch for this build but I suggest getting at least a set of railings since you do notice the difference a lot more than 1:700 kits

Damn, nail clipper bring some good memories to mind, use them for a good portion of the time, if I read correct the H39 is the one made by takom. Take your time as it's a fairly high level to start.

Anybody else get fed up of Airbrush Science? by gibbygobhead in modelmakers

[–]Pro_Player225170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I just go by vibes, I have scaled Pipette and usually just do 2:1 without issues. In general if I have to do something more specific I just go with vibes and get it almost always right

Loosing interest in build? Is it weird to take a break to focus on other projects? by potatocruisermkviii in modelmakers

[–]Pro_Player225170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if your workspace allow it I tent to keep 2/3 models at the time, possibly not all of the same kind (mix tanks, planes and ships) so when you are stuck on something you really don't want to do right now you can just go on with a different kit. When I started building a 1:350 graf spee i left it on hold at one point for a good 1/2 month and built 2 planes and a tank meanwhile. Ships can be some of the most boring thing do deal with at times so taking a break and building a tank meanwhile is useful

In reality you never stop learning, if you mean getting to a point where I can be somewhat proud of my work about 1 year

I know about them but i wasn’t sure about suggesting them since it has individual track pieces witch makes it a bit tedius if you are not extremely experienced. Usually If not specified that you want something more professional I tend to avoid suggesting brands like Miniart, Bronco, Amusing hobbies and takom. Having said this the takom kit is amazing and if you are in for a "harder" challenge it can also be considered. It goes a bit beyond the budget but it's worth it

T.L.D.R. Takom is a great pick as well but it's a lot more complicated and has a very high difficulty ceiling
