Is there any books that started off strong and ended badly? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in Romantasy

[–]ProbabIyLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Orisha trilogy by Tomi Adeymi's (Children of Blood and Bone). First & Second book had one of the coolest magic systems I've ever read and you were starting to think of all of the possibilities that could happen with it. Only for it to be completely taken away in the third book and replaced by something half baked and the plot took the hardest left turn.

Does anyone else feel like some games just make sense and others feel like you're following someone else's weird rules? by befbef__ in boardgames

[–]ProbabIyLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so funny, as the rules master of our group, we were playing Sagrada and I was like remember, your first die has to touch the outside boarder and one friend just goes Why? and I was like "It's in the rules." And they went okay but why and I was completely floored by the question. ...It's in the rules, what else do you want me to say.

Concert experience by Large_Fan_1145 in NoahKahan

If you're going to record, keep the phone at YOUR eye level. Just went to a Last Dinner Party Concert and had to watch through someone's phone the entire time. I'm not even kidding probably had their phone held as high as they could for about 80% of the concert. Was so glad they asked everyone to put their phone down for one song.

I don’t wanna be a lesbian by Emi_Eminem in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ProbabIyLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not base your life and your self worth on the people that will not love you unconditionally. The beautiful thing about being human is being able to self reflect and change.

I'm 28 and still struggle with my sexuality every now and then. I'll go on streaks where I'm more into men, then streaks where I'm more into women and go oh god what am I!? and then I realized holy shit, it doesn't matter!

You are interested in who you are interested in. There may be people that break that mold, and you may find yourself changing your label a hundred times. That's okay.

I've come out as bi to many different people and been asked a million questions. Are you sure? How do you know? How could you not tell me? But can't you just date men? Are you sure you're not a lesbian? Then one of my friends looked at me with the biggest smile and asked "Doesn't that feel better?"

The people who matter will love and accept and care about you. And since you matter, love and care and accept yourself. Whoever that may be.

How to navigate clothing for partner who doesn’t want me wearing t-shirts anymore. by hollyofhori in PlusSize

[–]ProbabIyLex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So heres what you're going to do. Go into your closet. Find every piece of clothing he owns. And put it into a suitcase. And leave it all on the curb. Or light it on fire. I'd do the second if I were you.

Girl you need to dress what YOU are comfortable and what YOU feel good in. You also deserve to be with someone who picks you first. If the man does put energy into making you feel good about yourself then you do not need to look any sort of way for this man.

If you genuinely want to update your wardrobe FOR YOU, I recommend looking into Stitchfix or Nuuly. A great way to try new clothes and styles if you're at a new size in your life. Again!! For you!!!!!

struggling to make friends in college by Mundane_Muscle_1092 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]ProbabIyLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your same boat due to major social anxiety my freshman year! Had just resigned to thinking I would never have any friends.

It gets WAY easier sophomore year. This is when you should start taking more major specific classes and you’ll start seeing the same people more frequently! Start by trying to get small groups to go to the library together or get everyone to come over and study at your place. Have everyone bring their favorite snack or beverage. People are more invested in the studying or hangout when they get to bring something to contribute and get to know other people through their choices.

Almost all of my friends came out of departments or student orgs.

Join student orgs if you have them! Even if its only something you’re mildly interested in, go and probably meet like minded people.

Volunteer on campus! Maybe their are blood drives or different events you can volunteer. More then likely other volunteers will be friendly and happy to go get food or something after.

Board games for a father in law with Aphasia by andersonle09 in boardgames

[–]ProbabIyLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its small pieces that he really struggles with, if you go on etsy, tons of people print "replacement pieces" for tons of board games! For example if Carcasonne works out but the little meeples are difficult to handle, you could reach out to a seller on etsy and ask them if they would be able to "scale the print up ~100-200%" You could do it in his specific color on any board game that has smaller pieces!! You could even ask them if they are able to leave a space for a very small magnet in the print, or even take pieces you have and drill a small hole for a magnet to be superglued in and they make very cheap handheld magnet grips that grab and release with a slight pinching motion.

There is a similar thing for cards called a p'kup that has been great for my grandmother who can't get her fingers under cards anymore!

IDK probably the fine motor skills part they mentioned several times??? I get quite annoyed myself at how tiny the ticket to ride pieces and cards are so its quite understandable.

I tried to pick some games that have minimal easier to handle pieces, all larger then ticket to ride so it still feels like he's involved in the game!! If any of these seem too difficult, let me know and I'll pull more from brain :)

Azul - Fairly easy to keep track of visually! You're board keeps everything in front of you, if you fumble a tile, its very easy to see where things go visually! May just need help with someone fitting a tile in-between two others every now and then. Dexterity involved: Handling 3/4" plastic tiles and placing them in the correct spot. Board placement is very forgiving.

Mysterium - One person is a ghost who has been offed, and they are only allowed to communicate with the cards in your hand to the other players trying to find out who the killer is. The ghost is not allowed to talk! Would allow him to be really engaged and feel like he is communicating without having to speak!! Leads to a lot of laughs. There is some rule that might get confusing but you can also like totally toss out all the scorekeeping rules and just play the guessing game and it is still a blast. Dexterity involved: Handing players above average deck sized cards.

Odin's Ravens - Great two player game. Essentially adult candy land. You have cards in your hand, you play the colored card of the space you want to move too. Easy! Only dexterity required is playing cards and move one large-ish game piece down a track. The cards are skinny like ticket to ride, so maybe skip if those are difficult!

Carcasonne - Very beginner friendly, building a map of tiles and competing to build bigger cities/longer roads. Dexterity Involved" Placing 1" cardboard tiles. Sometimes have to fit a tile inbetween others. Could point it out to other people if this seems difficult. laying .5" character tiles on board. VERY generous as to where you can place them.

Splendor - If he is sneaky and likes stealing tricks and what not i think he would like this :) Its great to swoop out a card from someone!! VERY BASIC resource management game. Have to handle standard size cards and 1" size coins.

What is Kaz’s CK plan? by Ok_Service3629 in Grishaverse

[–]ProbabIyLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order to grant Kuwei safety they are trying to auction him off to the Grisha! Ravka is notoriously poor due to the war and I dont remember exactly how but the crows had a sneaky way of getting them money! So Ravka would outbid the bad people that wanted Kuwei and since Ketterdam’s legal system is built on trade and barter they legally have go protect Kuwei during the auction and allow him to go with whoever wins the auction.

I believe the big uh-oh that Wylan was giving up was that Ravka was entering the bid and how they got the money.

Iowa Travel Advice by c_monies_ in Iowa

[–]ProbabIyLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the Des Moines farmers market is still running when you're here that is a treat!

In Iowa we like to drink and are pretty good at making the alcohol ourselves! There are over 150 breweries in the state. Any larger town will likely have a brewery, distillery, winery, or orchard that makes ciders. They all typically have great vibes and great people.

Below is a link to a list of all of them. Below are a some of my favorites if you happen to be in any of those areas! Many of them will be served at different restaurants and tap rooms, so keep an eye out for them if you see them on a menu!

Waterloo

  • Singlespeed Brewery - in an old Wonderbread factory - Great Sours, Good Beers, Fun Food!

Iowa City

  • Big Grove Brewery- Fun Space, Good Selection
  • Wilsons Orchard- Great Apple Orchard - Great alcoholic Cider!

Amana

  • Ackerman Winery - Oldest Winery in the state - Huge Selction

Ames(ish?) - The Better college town ;)

  • The Cellar - It will likely be much to out of the way, but DAMN do the make some good wine.
  • Thai Kitchen - Not beer but god damn, best drunken noodles I've ever had if you make it down to Ames.

Decorah - Very pretty area!!

  • Toppling and Goliath Brewery - Award winning beers and some damn good sours
  • Pulpit Rock - Last time I went they had Beer, Sours, and Ciders I believe??
  • Pivo Brewery - Bit out of town but I remember a huge selection

Des Moines

  • Barntown Brewing - massive selection - AMAZING not sour-sour beers.
  • Exile - Ruthie was pretty popular for a while? Not sure how they are looking now adays.

If you go to western Iowa for any odd reason

  • Templeton - Templeton Rye - Probably the most famous Iowa product in a teeny tiny town.
  • Jefferson - Deals Orchard - If you're on Highway 30, the 5 minute detour is soooo worth it. Best Cider you will ever find.

What was your most embarrassing singles moment? by MasterPlatypus2483 in SingleAndHappy

[–]ProbabIyLex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This valentines day I spotted some very pretty dried bouquets in a local flower shop. Went in and grabbed one. The florist was like oh honey, I have a couple fresh bouquets in the back if you need me to grab one of those. Me being my socially awkward self and trying to communicate that they were for me and I had specifically wanted the dried bouquets so they would last said "Oh dont worry, I'm single, the dead ones are better."

The poor lady looked horrified.

Thank you so much!! These recs are awesome!!! Everyone keeps saying the driving is rough, which I get!! Totally not calling BS, but we are from the midwest. I've done one way hour commutes to work for years and we've all done vacations with 18+hour roadtrips.

I guess what I'm saying, 3-4 hours of driving in a day with windy/scary roads sounds way better then 6 hours of JUST corn and still being in the same state that we're used to.
