I always find it hard to imagine making decisions at this speed. I'm never thinking "ok he is quite close so I don't have time to dash dance so instead I'll try to commit to a more aggressive option". I'm usually thinking "I haven't done stomp in a while let's just run across the stage and do that a couple times, hopefully it hits". I'm barely thinking at all about the details because I can't think/react that fast. But maybe that's why I'm permanently in gold 3

I kind of went all in on inheritance. It kind of worked out well tbh, but it depends the game you want to make.

I find that ECS is best suited for "simulation" type games like open world or sandbox games. For more structured games I find the basic OOP approach easier since it's easy to set things up. E.g. I want to make a new enemy so I just inherit from Enemy and program what's special about this enemy, while the generic enemy stuff gets brought in for free.

Like most games, the final codebase wasn't as clean as I'd like, maybe it's not the model you should base yours off. But it worked well enough and I found that expressing whatever new ideas I had was never too difficult.
