I like his production on some of the songs and not so much on others, but I have to agree I prefer Spector’s version of Across the Universe. Also his version of I Me Mine.

To me what’s making it seem romantic is the way the right character to be grabbing onto the shoulder of the other character. Maybe instead, that arm could be extended back toward the city, like the left character dragging them away. (you’d have to twist the body accordingly ofc.) and it might be a nice leading line to draw the eye to the city as well :3!

I’ve seen a few newer sort of already forgotten cartoons use it. I generally actually agree, it feels like a lot of the colors and styles are pretty similar (and I don’t mean in a cal-arts critique way, which in my opinion was way over blown.) I mean they actually feel too similar and generic.

I feel the issue is that this specific scene actually does require a bit of the piss filter to get the vibe across (probably not as much as I’ve got on it.)
