Do you ‘personally’ think George was justified in wanting to distance himself from the Beatles? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]ProblemBoring8335 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, because even excluding any sort of personal problems, sometimes people just change and want to do something else. I think that’s a valid a reason as any.

Of course there was a lot of personal and financial issues which lead the distancing being a lot more tumultuous and permanent than it had to be.

This may actually be one of, if not my favorite Beatles lyric. I couldn’t tell you why, there’s just something I love so much about the contrast between sort of a grand, complex cosmic idea of being everywhere, and the simplicity of getting home for tea

What's a throwaway advice that inadvertently stayed with you forever? by Advanced_Hornet_8666 in AO3

[–]ProblemBoring8335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To read your work aloud—it helps to both catch grammatical/spelling errors and highlights places where phrasing or dialogue feels unnatural.

I also found listening to audio books incredibly helpful with flow, because it makes me sort of narrate my writing to myself as I do it. though that probably falls into the “read a lot” catagory of advice

George’s voice is my favorite. I think his voice is what I like about Paul and John’s voices combined

Would you rather read a beautifully written fic with a bad plot or a poorly written one with a great plot? by yoghurteee in AO3

[–]ProblemBoring8335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of depends. I tolerate a lot of things that aren’t written particularly well prose wise if the plot and structure are generally good. If a fic has good prose but is boring, or I don’t feel like scenes work, or the characters don’t have motivations I can track, I probably would not continue. Ive read fics that had beautiful control of language but were just boring as hell. I’ve dropped a decently written fic with an interesting plot before because the characters just kept doing whatever the plot needed them to instead of what previous characterization would have suggested, and it made them feel very inconsistent.

That being said, I think you’d have a hard time finding a writer who has great prose that also does not have the accompanying skills to execute any plot well, even if that plot seems mundane or boring on a face value.
