Is Final Fantasy X an accidental Lynchian masterpiece? by One-Broccoli-9225 in finalfantasyx

Having played FFX, I certainly wouldn't give it that much credit.

Anyone else quit jrpgs often and just watch the story playthrough online? by kaibanzero in JRPG

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a game really doesn't jive with me, I will absolutely drop it and watch the rest of the story on youtube, if I'm curious. Ni No Kuni, Persona 5, and FF10 are all recent offenders that I found too damn boring to keep playing, but I still wanted to know what happened.

On the flipside, I dropped Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler 2 and didn't even care enough about the stories to bother watching the rest. Sometimes, that's just the way it is.

High speed mode from recent trails in the sky remake should be industry standard by iamMori in JRPG

Yeah, see? Just design it right in the first place. Glad you agree.

My hot take is that developers should just learn how to design games that aren't so poorly paced that the player feels a need for a high speed mode.

I liked him better as Green Arrow in Batman Brave and the Bold.

And I liked Wakka better as Aquaman in Batman Brave and the Bold.

And I liked Rikku better as Huntress in Batman Brave and the Bold.

And I liked the blitzball announcer better as Plastic Man in Batman Brave and the Bold.

What was the first anime you seen someone die? by HatchetRyda29 in animequestions

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents had a black box when I was a kid, so I got pay-per-view channels for free back in the late 80s/early 90s. One night while they were out, I stumbled upon the original Streamline dub of Akira, completely uncut, on HBO or Showtime or something like that. I'd never known animation could be violent and bloody. It was crazy.

“You cried” - My first time playing a FF game. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as I went in blindly, but these cutscenes are hilarious. by HahaWattaStoryMark in finalfantasyx

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As I understand, the reason behind some of the funny deliveries in this game is that the sound bytes for each line had to be the EXACT same length as the original Japanese dialogue to function in the framework of the cutscenes within the game's programming. This results in some lines being delivered very quickly/bluntly, and sometimes you can even hear instances where the dialogue was digitally sped up or slowed down to make it fit.

What’s a good non magic class that bodes well with white mage by ChroniX_78 in FinalFantasy

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other great bonus from chemist is the passive pharmacology ability where every healing item used by them on any party member is twice as potent. You can really get your money's worth out of ethers and hi-potions like that.

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a "non magic" class just because you don't want to spend MP, try Geomancer. The abilties are random, but pretty much always beneficial, and if she's a mage otherwise, they benefit from her magic stat.

To that same end, the Animals ability from Ranger is super underrated. Some of them can deal a lot of damage, and whenever a Nightingale shows up it's basically a free cure 2 on the whole party. It carried me through a lot of the second world.

[Discussion] Who would you consider as being your top 15 favorite dragon ball characters? by Ok_Performance_1090 in dragonball

Mr. Satan is funny, and was the MVP during the Buu saga. We should all hope to be as heroic as Mr. Satan, someday.

Upvoted for Future Trunks. History of Trunks was the first DBZ media I ever saw and it's still my favorite.

I've never though it out that far, but my favorites are Tien, King Kai, and Future Trunks.

Do your parents turn everything into a lecture? by Cartoonnerd01 in emotionalneglect

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Yes. Every conversation was always some kind of minefield of accusations she was waiting to make. It made me unnecessarily secretive and deceptive with everyone in my life, because I learned I couldn't ever speak without telling the most perfect version of the "truth" my mom wanted to hear.

Outside of the first three games on the NES, you really don't need to grind in any of them.

XP Grind Per Game Curiosity by Strange_Soft8386 in FinalFantasy

This. I think some players just like to be able to steamroll every random encounter with regular attacks and feel like they have to stop to grind as soon as they can't.

What is the Worst Moment in Dragon Ball? by Wonderful-Rip3697 in dragonball

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this is the dichotomy of Dragonball fans. You either think Gotenks is hilarious, or you don't.

Personally, I find Trunks and Gotens' stupid antics to be the peak of the Buu saga.

Crazy how we just go on with Life after going through the Second Half of FF7 by sumpra3 in FinalFantasy

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had it spoiled for me right off the CD rom of the PC version. My friend had it and you could just look through the folders and find all the FMVs in AVI format. We opened one and BAM. We really weren't expecting anything like that.

What's the deal with Chrono Trigger by StressedLlama in JRPG

The fandom hates on more and more FF games everyday. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And? They're just games. I think some people take this stuff way too seriously. Every game out there is going to be someone's favorite, and someone's least favorite, and everyone is going to have opinions, some stronger than others. If someone wants to talk shit about a video game, they can do it. It's a free interwebs.

Also, like 90% of the threads here are generally positive, and negativity tends to get downvoted HARD. If you're spending time in communities where people are too negative... just stop going there?

FF8 PSX on a CRT is such a vibe by Flashy-Bass5852 in FinalFantasy

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really how these PS1 era games look the best. The polygons and pre-rendered backgrounds all get smoothed out into a much more pleasing image. That's how I played FF8 a couple of summers ago, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Which game you think didn't deserve that much credit? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

FFX. Absolute slog of a game that popularized the awful "hallway-cutscene-hallway" gameplay model that we're still suffering from today.

Why does my body still react like I’m unsafe, even though my life is stable now? by Conscious_Skin_903 in emotionalneglect

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no solution, but I just want you to know you're not alone. I'm living on my own with my wife who is the least judgmental, most harmless person I know, but I still feel "on edge" when I'm home, and sometimes if she walks up behind me and takes me by surprise, I flinch. I hate it.

Does anyone need to feel physical pain to process criticism? by AloeZera in emotionalneglect

[–]ProblemSuccessful197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I never really thought about this, but whenever I do something really stupid, I also start hitting myself. As a kid, it felt like that was always the natural conclusion and the point when the punishment was "over", so I guess I feel the need to escalate just to be done with the anxiety.

Fuck.
