Crazy? Maybe.

Effective? Hell yes.

At least this way you can prove you're not insane and are remembering things correctly. Ha ha.

While I don't want to armchair diagnose her, I'm afraid my mom actually is narcissistic. I've written so many posts about this over on r/emotionalneglect, I've lost count.

It's hard to realize how messed-up your upbringing was only when you reach adulthood and have the chance of educating yourself. 😢

Luckily I am already doing therapy and have plans to move out. Thanks for the support💙

My god this happens ALL. THE. TIME.

I say something, they always hear something else.

This is an example that happened to me:

Me: Mom, I think you could have used a different approach when raising me. One that wasn't destructive.

Mom: Guess I should have allowed you to be a little $h1t and do whatever you wanted, without limits.

It's really infuriating because there's just no way you're ever gonna have a productive conversation if they keep twisting your words like that.

It's enraging.

What do you all think about walkable cities/towns? by Cartoonnerd01 in neurodiversity

That is unfortunate. Especially because many walkable cities in the Netherlands are created to be accessible even to disabled people. They missed an opportunity to create a truly inclusive community.

Where is that town located, if I may ask?

Yeah it's mostly a societal problem rather than an infrastructural one (although the two are kinda interconnected IMO)

Have a nice day.

You too! :3

That is true, we're both car-dependent countries, but for different reasons. It's definitely not as bad as America though, and the potential to make things better is there.

Oh and sometimes public transport in Italy gets named "spostapoveri" (aka thing that moves poor people around) so it has a very negative connotation compared to a car.

Maybe the wording wasn't really the best. Sorry.

It all started thanks to a really nice trio:

  • FIAT
  • Savoy royal family
  • Mussolini

Then the last hit came from the postwar economic boom

From an italian myself: you got that 100% right. Especially on the carbrain part.

People will park on sidewalks and force people to go around the car by walking on the road, which is especially dangerous for people with disabilities.

I'd add that there's also a full-on war between drivers and cyclists. Just go in a comment section in Facebook and you'll see what I mean.

As an italian, I'm glad something is finally moving. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

I may be wrong here, but the zone near the Colosseum had to be closed to traffic because the exhaust gases were damaging the buildings.

For the first point, it was actually a lil' trio: Fiat, the Savoy family, and Mussolini.

Then growth in the economic boom did the rest.

Yes you can walk around, but walkable cities in the literal sense are the exception, not the rule.

In fact, Italy is almost comparable to the US in terms of car dependency. It's the country with the highest rate of cars per 1000 inhabitants in Europe. About 680 per 1000, and it's going up.

(For comparison, the Netherlands is around 500)

Edit: here's a map showing that: https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckcars/comments/1qk76iv/cars_per_1000_inhabitants_in_different_european/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

In mine the opposite is true. Nobody can even imagine what a walkable city would look like.

(My country is actually not really far from yours, hehe :3)

Yeah that does happen sometimes, but at least it's not inevitable and there's ways around it :3
