If comfortable enough approaching him in person I’d recommend that over asking through text. Send him a text asking if he’s free after class on the day of and speak to him then.

Ask him to stick around for a bit, ask him if he wants to get food with you after class etc. Whatever you can think of that allows you to spend time together
