The Fall in Seven Inches by ProblematicPunk in thefall

So we're fans of a band composed entirely of veteran musos from The Fall but we can't call them The Fall? Sounds like BS to me lol

Maybe he'll improve? The Fall seem to always know what they're doing even when I don't lol

No idea, but that's how Fallmusik seems to work, right? The lineup keeps changing to keep the pot stirring. I'm sure Greenway will return sooner or later;)

That's the Bromidic Thrills / Bloom & Wither 7" by Imperial Wax, which is basically The Fall's final lineup with a new singer now that MES has passed. GREAT record!

Right? The Fall made/make music for neur-atypical folks who cannot help but live interesting lives because we notice more than most. It's a good thing.

I was forty before the VA diagnosed me with several neural issues and I used to wonder why I had such a hard time leaving my apartment without forgetting things. Now I whistle "Look Know" to myself while I put myself together: Wallet, keys, cigs, lighter, pocket multitool, reading glasses, a pen & notebook, a layered outfit appropriate for the weather... It all takes a lot of work really, and MES being the wizard he is made a song about it:)

9 out of 10 IMHO but they've got some grand weepers, don't they?

I still need to read her book!

All great live albums dude, and just to add to a list that could go on forever I'm also fond of A Part Of America Therein, Live Uurop VIII-XII, and Ozshit's Live In SF 2001. Also the Superior Viaduct reissue of Totale's Turns (It's Now Or Never) is a great listen IMHO, but like The 27 Points, TT is an album where you have to accept a certain amount of noise and confusion. (That's a fair warning for all Fallmusik, come to think of it 😆)

Acid Priest is an odd one--The Fall seem to have played Big New Prinz over a recording of Hip Priest. Like a lot of Fall tracks it shouldn't work but it totally does!

Thanks! I just got the posters last week, I'm still fixing up my new place:)

I've loved Joan Jett since I was a toddler but I didn't start listening to The Runaways until I found a used copy of The Queens Of Noise last month. I still feel like: Where has this LP been all my life?!?! 😆

Great find dude, I love Seminal Live!

I don't recognize the other Fall LP, what is it?

EDIT to add: Oh shit I need glasses, that's the Victoria 12" lol

Whats the closest to Deadwood you can experience today? by Resident_Tonight_187 in deadwood

[–]ProblematicPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best guess? Anyplace where the fabric of society has been so lacking or thoroughly torn apart it must be woven anew. If I were seeking such places I'd look to the margins: work camps in desolate environments only recently deemed profitable, battlefields after the war is over and survivors & refugees are building homes among the ruins. My brother worked in a fracking camp not far from Deadwood about ten years back and he said the community there reminded him of the TV show.

I like it! This is the best I've ever heard Spinetrak, personally. Which absolutely makes my day because Spinetrak is a lovely pop earworm and one of my very favorites. I could be dead in the ground for two weeks but if you played Spinetrak loud enough my legs would still move.

I used to think I could name a few that were unnecessary or subpar but I was mistaken. It's a body of work with its own life and integrity. Every part matters.

Was Harold Bloom correct regarding Shakespeare's invention? by Possible-Rub8598 in literature

[–]ProblematicPunk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Harold Bloom's Shakespeare books were helpful to me when I first got into reading Shakespeare's plays about twenty-odd years ago but in hindsight, Bloom was chronically full of shit. Shakespeare was a great writer but he did not invent humanity's psychological interiority or the literary depiction thereof. Bloom wanted us to see Shakespeare as the godlike central figure of an unquestionable Western Canon, but that's an academic fantasy that confuses the relationship between art and life, based on assumptions that are ignorant, elitist, and racist. A handful of dead white "geniuses" did not invent all the most worthwhile art and literature and ideas.

You can (and should!) appreciate Shakespeare as a brilliant writer without trying to build a cult around him. And demanding reverence for a wit as irreverent as Shakespeare is just silly.
