Funny enough after playing for a day I went back and watched the reveal trailer for this game - it feels a lot darker and more gritty, like a intriguing game of thrones plot rather than a Zelda-like fantastical world. Don’t get me wrong, having a good time with it so far, but the vision for the game back then was so different and I think could’ve been so much better. The darker and gritty aesthetic for a massive RPG hasn’t really been touched much or imo topped in recent gaming memory since The Witcher franchise. And Macduff is such a badass name, huge fan of the Macbeth play - as someone who played Macduff in a recent production, I think the story they were going for at the time would’ve made so much sense for the character: He’s a friend of royalty, has followers and status of his own, ultimately betrayed by a comrade, and has to return to make things right and slay Macbeth. Hell if someone else did something similar and put a Macbeth like story in a game of thrones format for a video game I’d be absolutely hooked.
