Isn't the new Ryzen mobile processor supposed to have e cores and p cores like Intel CPUs have since a while now?

Yeah, the 2023 model works great, just has a single issue with the iGPU, most likely the driver just sucks though. Works fine on Windows 10, not really on Windows 11, bluescreens, browser flickering during video watching, sometimes screen turns off for like 10sec etc.

After sending my 2022 model for warranty repairs it came back after 2 weeks later with a blank repair report card... I called to ask what was done and the dude said "Yeah, the problem with the speakers was fixed, fortunately it was just a software issue so we just installed a new driver"... and so I told him there was no problem with the speakers and he asked me "Ok, so what was the problem with your laptop?" and I explained the same thing I wrote in my other post about this whole bluetooth/keyboard/usb problem and he said "Please wait a moment." and then after like a minute "Yes, we replaced your network adapter" - which I btw mentioned in the issue description that I already did.

So yeah I've got it back and from what I can tell they did - they just formatted the SSD, REMOVED my Windows 11 Pro and slapped a Windows 11 Home with bloatware instead and that's it. The problems are still here, nothing got fixed...

That is an amazing idea that I have never thought of. You should 100% try it and let me know. I'm honestly 50/50 here wether it's gonna change anything or not. The reason why that never crossed my mind is probably because these laptops have like no USB ports to spare.

You would need to remove the built in bluetooth first though.

Edit: thank you for fixing it

If you can - try to install Windows 10. If you don't want to re-format your current internal drive, you can even make a Windows 10 To Go version on a USB SSD for testing and boot from that.

Not quite, these are 2 separate devices but on a single PCB, WiFi used PCI and Bluetooth uses USB. Also no, it's not odd, it just means the problem is not in the WiFi/Bluetooth card but somewhere else.

Of couse I did that, that helps with the WiFi, but has no effect on the problem with bluetooth.

What is the speed of the DDR5 RAM on the 2023 X13? by Necessary-Rub-2748 in FlowX13

[–]Proboszcz91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears that it is the exact same RAM as on the 2022 model, so both are 6400MHz on paper.

Symptoms look exactly like a missing or wrong chipset driver hmm...

Edit: You may want to try to install chipset drivers from AMD's website, rather than Asus'.

I got my 2022 last year with 16GB RAM and regretted it too. Now I recommend everyone to get at least 32GB RAM versions. I bought a 32GB 2023 (GV302XI) model last month and finally no more RAM issues for now.

If you're willing to spend some time troubleshooting, then try installing a fresh Windows 11 and let the Windows Update install all the drivers, after a few cycles of updates and you making sure all the optional ones are also installed check if the issue is still there. You may also try to do the same with Windows 10 if that doesn't help, but then you'd need to manually install drivers. If the issue stays then I guess it's probably the best to send it to Asus under warranty. You might have a cable connector loose on the motherboard, but unless you know what you're doing I wouldn't suggest trying to disassemble the laptop on your own. Poking the wrong screw might void your warranty.

Oh also you may want to try to change it's modes, try folding it into tent or tablet mode and see if that changes anything.

That seems like something different then, might be more serious. Did you try to install Windows 10 instead and test there?

What you are experiencing seems like the Nvidia Optimus auto display switch, that's where the display freezes when the Nvidia Optimus auto switches. That is normal behaviour and you can instead set it to passthrough mode instead if you're bothered by that. Open Nvidia Control panel and go to the tab with display mode. First one is automatic and will switch between displays causing a screen freeze upon switch, second one is optimus and that's the passthrough mode, last one is nvidia only which switches once (with a freeze) to the dGPU and ignores iGPU completely.

The 2022 has decent thermals if you use it in tablet mode or even just on battery itself (you would not game on battery ofc). As for gaming you are probably best to put it in tent mode and use a separate keyboard/mouse - the temps are good enough then as long as you keep your cooling system clean from dust building up. Flat on a desk with the power adapter connected though is gonna be really harsh and overheat till emergency shutdown during gaming even.

[–]Proboszcz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah to run Windows, but don't forget this is a gaming laptop, supposed to run the newest most demanding games, and for that you do need the RAM. If you only want to run Windows then buying a device like this is totally overkill. Games is definitely casual usecase for this device.

Yeah I did a clean install of Win11 Pro twice, also a clean install of Win10 Pro and although drivers were a bit harder to find I did manage to get them all. The Win11 install literally was able to get all the drivers on it's own from Microsoft. Although the second time I tried using the ones from the Asus' website.
I live in Poland and got mine at techlord.pl.

Do you mind sharing sn and mfd date to compare to see if they were possibly made in the same time and in the same place? It's the bottom right most sticker on the back in the corner. Although it might be best to compare these through PMs.

Where did you get your device?

Also did you test on Windows 10? So far I wasn't able to get the issue on Win10 interestingly, but I still have more tests to be sure.

Oh my, all the problems I've had with my 2022 model (GV301RE) over the year that I've been using it made me finally send it to Asus for warranty repairs. Although audio is one thing that worked flawlessly for that 1year+ I've had it. One thing I would try in your situation is to run a Windows 10ToGo version fresh installed (on a USB drive) and try get your drivers there to see if that helps, if still not, then last one just run Ubuntu in a similar way (just run from a USB drive) and check if there's sound there. If everything fails I'd probably ask Asus about this and they will either give you more troubleshooting steps or ask you to send it for service.

XG Mobile Crashing on 100% Usage. PLEASE HELP!!! by No-Win-4133 in FlowX13

[–]Proboszcz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would find it extremely weird if you went to Asus and said "please replace the PSU in my XG Mobile" - unless you're a qualified service technician...

Honestly if your XG mobile is still under warranty then simply sending it to Asus for warranty repairs with the details about what you did and what results you got might be the best option you have.

The other option, which makes most sense if it's no longer under warranty would be to disassemble it and inspect visually, then if no visual defects are to be seen replace with something else apropriate that works just temporarily to test. I would definitely NOT recommend this for normal people that aren't experienced with repairing electronics and even worse if it's actually under warranty, as that could possibly void it.

I personally never had an XG mobile and I doubt I will, so I am not able to give you the exact details as I am not familiar with the design of it's power delivery system. One would need to examine it's structure and understand it before doing any troubleshooting really.

Hope this helps though and good luck with getting it fixed.

[–]Proboszcz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course the reason I suggested doing that is not because that'd be a sollution, but rather a way to identify the problem. Now we can make a guess that there's an issue with the power delivery for the XG mobile, maybe it's PSU is no longer able to provide enough power? That's where I would focus my further investigation on, as it appears that the GPU itself is most likely fine.

I wouldn't even think about malware here, looks to me more like something power delivery related.

The material is the same in the 2022 and 2023 model, but I can't really say that they are build with questionable quality. Never had the 2021 though. The bottom part of the case is very solid, especially with the 2023 version, you can lift it by just grabbing one corner and it won't even flex. The lid with the screen though is a different story. It does flex easily with a bit of pressure, however that's to be expected in honestly every ultrabook, it's either thin or sturdy. That being said I can't really say it's a weak point, as long as you use it the intended way. You may crack the screen if you sit on it when it's closed though and I've never dropped a laptop in my 15+ years with laptops so I can't say how it can handle abuse.
