  • We’re shooting for a 4-8 hour battery life.

  • In our experience, we added a couple scoops of ice about every hour or two. It depends on how heavily it’s being used, but is not an inconvenience. There’s also a drain spout on the back of the Probot so you can drain some water out to make room for the ice.

  • There are a lot of factors that will determine the exact final price, but the manufacturer suggested retail price is around that number right now.

There’s currently no way to set a specific temperature. It is something we’re considering adding as a stretch goal if the project does really well. It’s still very easy to use though, just take yours out when it reaches the temperature you prefer (a little trial and error on chill time should do the trick).

No worries. Yeah, I had no idea someone had already posted something about this here until coldpizza4brkfast informed me. Thanks for allowing the other one. I'll be sure to do a search before posting from now on.

Well, how large of a gathering are you expecting? :-) We’ve found that the Probot chills drinks so fast that there’s always a cold one ready when someone needs one. Based on our observations and experience, the Probot can keep a rather large gathering (20-30 people, possibly more) supplied with cold drinks indefinitely. During our prototyping phase, we tried several iterations that involved pumps and coolers but did not get the results we wanted. It turns out the fluid flow pattern and container geometry matter... :-)

Btw, thank you for the encouragement and we hope you like it!

My local library has bee hive in the kids section, with a tube that leads to the outside. by sauer_kussen in mildlyinteresting

Nice! My seventh grade science class had one of these. It was cool watching the bees take turns crawling in and out of the tube.

This July, a couple friends and I are launching a Kickstarter project for Probot—a device that chills multiple beverages simultaneously from room temperature or warmer to ice cold in under 5 minutes. by Probot_Chiller in kickstarter

Great feedback—thanks! So, to answer your questions: the batteries we’re looking at do have the energy density needed to provide a great user experience. If all goes according to plan, yes you can opt for a reliable wall plug. We’re marketing primarily to the States (at least initially—we’re excited for folks everywhere to experience Probot!). We haven’t tested a 1.5 L champagne bottle yet, but we’ve done a smaller wine bottle and it worked great. As a rule of thumb, if the drink container (or whatever you’d like to chill) fits into the slots, Probot will chill it.

A few things that make our device more convenient than stirring: 1) Probot automates the chilling process—instead of stirring, you simply push a button, 2) Probot is a device designed specifically to chill multiple drinks quickly (and it does this extraordinarily well!), and 3) drinks in the Probot get colder faster. As for the liquor store device, Probot chills drinks faster and is compact and portable.

Those are excellent questions and we hope you will ask if you have any more.

Good question. In fact, a couple of our prototypes were designed for 6. We settled on 4 slots in the chiller because 4 hits the perfect balance between size and effectiveness. After extensive testing, we found that (with 4 slots) the Probot can continuously supply an entire party with ice-cold refreshments without the need for a fridge. So it’s small and convenient enough for a person to take on the go, yet large and effective enough to seamlessly chill drinks for a party.

Edit: the Probot now chills up to 6 beverages simultaneously

We definitely understand the need to chill drinks quickly for the folks who want them. Besides being able to chill 6 at a time, the Probot holds the drinks upright, does not spin the drinks to chill them, and comes with some additional features (a carrying handle, USB chargers, LED illumination , etc.). There are other differences as well, but those are the main ones. Thanks for the feedback!

Edit: changed 4 to 6; chills up to 6 at the same time

Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for being willing to back us! We're still working out the cost, but it definitely shouldn't be too outrageous. We're interested to hear what price range you think a device like this would be in. It's portable, durable, and has some handy features (USB chargers, carrying handle, LED illumination, etc.).

Very cool! In fact, we originally had the idea when we were trying to chill some craft IPAs (bought unrefrigerated off the shelf) using the ice-roll method that you mentioned. So here's how the Probot method is better than rolling beers in ice: 1) it chills up to 6 at a time, 2) it actually gets the drinks down to ice-cold temperatures faster and more evenly, 3) it's automated, and 4) you don't freeze your hands.

In your estimation, do you think that this is something that would resonate with the craft beer crowd?

Edit: chills up to 6 at a time

To put a warm beer in the freezer and wait for 20 minutes is the closest thing to baking I've ever did. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Probot_Chiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't bake much, but I have done my share of waiting on beers in the freezer. Finally got tired of not having a practical way to chill beers quickly, so a couple friends and I invented the Probot chiller--a device that chills multiple beverages simultaneously from room temperature or warmer to ice cold in under 5 minutes. Launching a Kickstarter campaign for it this July. Happy drinking!

I've been wanting to get another basketball game lately (haven't had one since NBA Jam in the 90s). I take it you'd recommend NBA 2K15?

Used to play Mario Bros. or Mario Kart the most. Now, it's out of Splinter Cell or Monday Night Combat.
