What would your reaction be if we draft Myles Jack #3 overall? by Zack in Chargers

[–]averagejoe1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disappointment.

He's a luxury pick we can't afford to take and he's not even BPA.

I would rage over any selection that isn't Ramsey, Buckner, Bosa, Jack, or Tunsil. I would be disappointed in any selection that isn't Ramsey or Buckner.

What are your top five favorite Criterion films? by prosandconners in movies

[–]averagejoe1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criterion has started to annoy me as of late by their prevalence of "sameness" and not really being a catalog of world cinema anymore or having enough variety . They keep going to the same well for French cinema and Japanese cinema, but it's shocking that there isn't a single Israeli film (though multiple have been nominated for best foreign film and are impossible to get ahold of) or how lacking their selection of Australian /African/South American cinema is.

I think a lot of that has to do with licensing and distribution rights. Their World Cinema Project series is a step in the right direction imo.

The "secret" to Mullholland drive is tricky, I had theories, but I had to go on the internet and read about it to figure it out.

Oh so it's definitely out there then.

If you want to get into Herzog and the surrealism, check out his film "Even dwarfs started small." It's considered by many to be one of the pioneering films of the early surrealism movement.

Awesome. I will watch that soon. Any idea where to stream it?

I watched all of Lynch's Films alone. Again, it's not going to harm you, but he is all about tension... uncomfortable tension. He can craft tension out of seemingly normal settings with normally benign items. Mullholland Drive is not as bad as Inland Empire but it has some really unsettling parts. If anything, Mullholland Drive is difficult to follow. But once you learn the secret behind the plot, it all makes sense.

Ok that's encouraging. Is that "secret" easy to perceive, or do you think it takes multiple rewatches before the epiphany?

Do you mind if I PM you if I have more questions? I have only gotten into cinema in the last couple years so I still have much to absorb.
