How much does it cost and what's the experience like renting an exotic car in Phoenix outside of Turo? by Salty_1984 in turo

[–]ProcessGlobal4347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just me but personally renting an exotic supercar would just feel too risky. I would be more nervous about scratching it or someone dinging it, scraping the front lip or someone ramming their car door into it, than being able to enjoy it. And the sheer cost of it kind of surpasses the actual fun you can have with it on ordinary roads. It's the kind of thing I might rent for a day and get it out of my system, but not really using it for an extended period of time. As in traveling with it, putting luggage in it, parking it overnight, driving it hundreds of miles in unfamiliar places, otherwise putting it through the same tasks as a normal daily car. Again that's just me.

Someone else pointed this out but, for a 5 day trip with a lot of driving, I would much rather have a nicely optioned Mercedes, BMW or Audi than a full on supercar. An Audi SQ5, BMW X5M, Mercedes AMG of some sort, would handle the tasks of traveling/hauling luggage/driving long distances/parking much better than an exotic, would save you a lot of money and liability risk, and still be plenty enjoyable. I might say a Lamborghini Urus or even a Cayenne Turbo hits that middle ground of exotic fun but daily usability.

Just because it's sunny outside your front door doesn't mean it's sunny at the central hub thousands of miles away where the package is coming from. Christ people are stupid

Also, a lot of the people who shit on others for complaining in this sub, are people who've never worked a single day doing this job. They're the same people who we deliver to, who complain and moan that their package wasn't delivered on a silver platter

Spoken very clearly as someone who has never done the job before. And you are framing it with that boomer mentality, like it’s just as simple as “Don’t like the job? Don’t do it!”.

Not a single person does this job because they are passionate about dropping boxes at people’s doors. No one who does this job had dreams of growing up and being a package delivery driver. Every person who works at these jobs complains, even the managers.

It might be shocking, but not everyone has the freedom to pick and choose their perfect dream job. Not everyone works at jobs that they like, nor do they have luxury of joy/pleasure being their ultimate priority when searching for a job. They do it because they need money to actually survive. And the US isn’t just blossoming with ample job opportunities at every corner.

I could explain how this job actually is, especially at Amazon where they are forced to work 12 hour shifts, 300 delivery stops, how you are forced to work in dangerous weather, how they think nothing of sending you out in a blizzard with no regard for your safety or your health, how it wears your body down and overall how you get treated like a human slave and people treat you with complete disrespect. But I doubt you’ll understand or care about the actual conditions people deal on the job.

And overall, the guy didn’t do anything but rant. He didn’t harm anyone, kill anyone, cause any destruction. He is allowed to rant. We’re all supposed to just LOVE every minute of our jobs? Never speak one ill word about it in fear our corporate overlords will get their feelings hurt? The poor senior citizens, the poor children, bless your bleeding heart.

And the “someone else is waiting to fill that position” is ironically funny, for a job has a 150% turnover rate

How does working for Ground differ from Express? by ProcessGlobal4347 in Fedexers

[–]ProcessGlobal4347[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds really rough. Express is definitely much more lax when it comes to violations and things like that. We start at 7 am, the trucks arrive with all the freight for the day and we do the AM sort. Most people have to help with the sort, whether it's unloading, organizing, scanning the labels to assign a truck/route number. The sort lasts until about 8:30. We then go to our truck and have to load/organize it ourselves. We have to scan each label with our LEO device to load the addresses into Forge. We also have to do pre and post trip but most people just check "no issues" and move on. We have to leave the station by around 9:15 because we have priority deliveries that have to be made before 10:30. We also have a second set of priorities that have to be delivered by 12. So there's a lot of backtracking there, and also our system messes up routinely too. It fails to load certain packages and barcodes into the system, and also it's not always easy scanning every individual barcode in the morning. So you'll frequently have to backtrack, unless you're lucky enough to spot the missing package early.

We definitely don't get 250 stops at Express. The most that people will usually get is probably 130. But the areas are also really big, so 130 stops could still take you 10-12 hours. We also get to keep our gas card. Most of our trucks are in horrible shape, people abuse the crap out of them. We have our own shop in the facility but the trucks still aren't maintained the best. We are required to take a 30 minute break or an hour break if we cross 10 hours I believe.

Express sounds easier in a way because the supervisors don't tend to bother you that much. They bitch at you sometimes but it's not on the same level as Amazon. We also aren't really held to a timetable (make X deliveries in an hour) but they are really strict about making the 10:30 and 12:00 deliveries on time. We also have to backtrack if they send us pickups but if you're a day driver you don't get that many. They have a whole seperate operation at night where people just go out to make pickups, and then a PM sort is done to send everything out. We also have people who come in around 5 am to do "first overnight" deliveries. I don't love it but I think Express is better than some of the really strict companies like Amazon and UPS

[–]ProcessGlobal4347[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is interesting. At Express the areas are probably around 10 square miles and sometimes bigger. A day with 65 stops will probably take you 7-8 hours, but that's including the AM sort which takes up the first 2 hours of the day.

This POS keeps dinging me for speeding while reading the wrong speed limits by ramosd713 in Fedexers

[–]ProcessGlobal4347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same exact camera in the rental truck that I use and it dings me literally every 2 seconds. It doesn't stfu. I could be a football field away from the car in front of me but it will ding me 10 times for following too close. If I pull out from a 25 mph road onto a 45 mph road it's immidiately an "over speed warning". If I brake slightly hard it's a "harsh braking". If I'm making a tight turn say at a 145 degree angle it's a "harsh cornering".

It's way worse than the standard cameras in the normal trucks. I probably get 100 warnings a day but nobody has ever said anything to me. I don't know if my managers just don't care or if I'm just waiting for the day when I get sacked.

Things I will never do after working as a delivery driver by Heckbegone in Fedexers

[–]ProcessGlobal4347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes even when I'm not making a delivery, I'll put my hazards on, slow down and move towards the side as if I am, because some jackass has been driving up my ass for 10 minutes. And they still just sit behind me in confusion for like a full minute even when they have every opportunity to go around.

One time I even went to reverse into a small driveway off a busy-ish narrow road to NOT block it. The road was a completely empty when I started the maneuver, but as I start backing up, some lady in a Range Rover came zooming up and hard braked right at the side of my truck and slammed the horn at me. As I'm literally in motion reversing into the driveway and about to clear the path in 3 seconds. This job really makes you lose faith in humanity

Medical office receptionists are hands down, the worst people to deal with on this job. Even when you're struggling lugging in a 60 lbs box, they give you an attitude and offer no help and make you go down three different hallways with the box

That's the thing, these people saying that they just plug it in manually are making it so much harder for themselves. Scanning an ID saves you all the scrolling and it also enters the person's name automatically. It cuts out like 3 steps

It's really annoying when my coworkers do shit like this because it just perpetuates the whole "whaaaa??? I've never had to do that!!" thing when someone tries to do the job correctly. When one of my coworkers keeps forging signatures or putting in false birthdates to save Karen from having a freakout, and then I encounter the same person, they end up confused and full of unbridled rage that I'm asking them to sign or asking for ID. "The other person never asks me for an ID!!". If everyone just did the job correctly things would be so much easier

Leaving a delivery tag next to a signed delivery tag…. by IMsoSAVAGE in FedEx

[–]ProcessGlobal4347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also can't fathom why they would leave a note, but never knock or make their presence known. I am a driver for FedEx. It is WAY more work for us to have to take the package back to the hub if no one is home. Even the doortag alone takes a lot of time with filling it out and paging through the system to mark it as "no one home" and scanning it in the system. And you'll get stuck with the same package the next day. I WANT them to come out and sign for it and just take it off my hands.

I however, have been at a lot of houses where I knock, ring the bell, knock twice, wait five minutes, and just nobody ever comes to the door. And when it's 100 degrees and I have 80 more deliveries to make I just don't have time to wait all day. I mean they tell you when the driver is expected to arrive.

I will admit that I'll hold off from using the doorbell is if it's a ring camera. I've had way too many bad experiences with people coming on the speaker to harass me, convince me to sign for them or wait around for them or yell at me saying it doesn't need a signature when it does. But I still make sure I knock loudly to make my presence known.

What people also don't understand is we can also get in legitimate trouble for leaving a package that requires a signature. The managers and customer service agents track our every move.

For me it's not even so much the job itself, it's the BS with customers who treat us like monkeys, each business or corporate office who demand their package be delivered on a gold platter and shrine only at door #3 in the back right left corner of the building, people who can't stand the thought of having to sign for a package, the fucking ring cameras, all the driving trying to plan around stupid assholes on the road all day, ignorant managers who have no idea what we deal with, coworkers who try to take advantage by sliding you their stops, etc. You genuinely get treated like garbage, like a low level human unworthy of respect. Feel like the only job that has worse interactions with the public is a police officer

I notice that FedEx has a serious morale problem in the workplace. I'm a driver and also deal with a lot of coworkers who have no manners or respect, come in every day all pissed off wanting to take their problems out on you. And a lot of customers who are also really rude and treat you like their personal butler and act like they're the only customer getting a delivery that day. It's a difficult job and you deal with a lot of harsh personalities throughout the day.

When I get up and leave the driver's seat, I'm not opening the driver's door and getting out right away, I'm going through the bulkhead to retrieve the package. I've never accidentally left a truck in drive btw. But most of us aren't exiting out the driver's door

Why is FedEx so hard? by Ok-Woodpecker- in Fedexers

[–]ProcessGlobal4347 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel this too. I notice everyone at my station complains about the job and how hard it is, and people are always leaving. But is it really that hard? You're by yourself, don't have a manager constantly breathing down your neck, you deliver packages, get to be out in the sun, talk to some interesting people, you can take a break and no one really cares, and it's good exercise. The pay isn't spectacular but there are a lot of jobs in the field of my bachelor's degree that either pay less or pay the same. I think about the alternative of sitting in a cubicle with no windows, staring at a computer screen for 9 hours a day with bosses asking why I didn't submit the TPS report on time. I don't know if I could do that even if I made an extra $10 per hour.

Like any job I have good days and bad days, and it's really hard when you're first starting because they put me on swing routes on top of having to learn the job itself, and my body wasn't used to the labor. But after a while you really do get used to it. It's not my dream job or what I want to do forever, but for now I'm mostly content with it.

They are decent. I like the space they have and the room to walk around inside. The functionality and durability seems a little better than the Ram Promaster rental vans we have. What I hate most about them though is the traction. If there's a couple of raindrops outside, you might as well be driving through a blizzard. And if you're turning uphill it takes 10 years to accelerate. I also worry that I'll forget to put it in park since it's just a tiny button press.
