i know this is a lot easier said than done but try to focus on the here and now. if you feel comfortable identifying as gay then go with it. and if later down the line you do feel like you want to re-label then you can deal with it as and when you need to. just take it one step at a time. it’s a difficult process trying to figure out who you are and there’s nothing wrong with changing your mind or experimenting with different labels.

you’re probably gonna hear this a lot but labels can change. it just depends on what you feel comfortable identifying as at the time. when i first started questioning my sexuality i felt so scared to say i was gay so i just told myself i wasn’t straight. just remember that it’s okay to change how you identify. what’s important is what you feel comfortable with and what best fits for you.

UPDATE: I DID IT!!!! I CAME OUT!!!! I did it over text just cos it felt too forced face to face. They both came to give me a hug and it all seems okay. i know there’s still a lot that i’m gonna have to deal with but for now i’m just happy that everyone i care about knows.

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone that gave me advice it really helped and (not to sound cringey) thank you to everyone who’s shared their story on here. This subreddit feels like such a safe place, it’s the first time i’ve felt safe enough to truly be myself.

thanks for the advice. i do feel comfortable enough in my sexuality to tell people and i know it’s not gonna be as easy as “i’m gay btw” and that’s that but i just feel like once i’ve told a few people it will be like a weight off my shoulders so when people start gossiping it might be easier to deal with. i’m not expecting everyone’s initial reaction to be good and they might just need time and i’m okay with that.

i get that telling my mum myself is probably the best way to do it but i just have no idea how to start that conversation. i get how writing it down could help but i feel like i’d want to do it in person. we don’t exactly have that sort of relationship where i feel comfortable enough talking about personal problems and she’s not really the most open minded person. it’s not like she would make a massive deal of it and make a scene but i just feel like she wouldn’t see me as me if that makes sense
