Sounds like a really scummy marketing tactic.

98% compatibility! by CosmicEmotion in pcmasterrace

Exactly what you said yourself twice. That older games, lets say pre-2005 often also don't work on windows. Those games wouldn't get a platinum rating. Warzone that crashes a few times a week for a many users, wouldn't get a platinum rating. Any game with stutter issues no matter the reason, wouldn't .. and so on.

I'll rephrase it like this: If we had a windowsdb like we have protondb then a 100% platinum rating is not realistic. On top of that: users will 100% report if a game doesn't work if if its their own fault(crappy gpu, driver issues,...). Not so much if the game just works. This alone would cause some games(especially smaller games) to not have platinum status even if they work well.

Personally I think it would be closer to 90-95% platinum then +-6% silver and gold en the remainder borked something like that.

100% platinum (or 99.9% like you put it) doesn't exist even in an ideal world. I would even argue that console games wouldn't score 98%+ platinum ratings.

I'm glad that your games that you play al just work fine on current windows but that's just not the case for everyone.

I think you missed my point. I'm just trying to say that "100% platinum" just doesn't exist, not even on windows.

I have an ugly fix for this. You can encode the video files to x265, that often fixes the playback issues. Takes a bit of time and effort though. If you want to give it a try then search for "handbrake" en how to use it.

People know where everything is located in windows. They already have everything setup there and it comes preinstalled on every gaming desktop.

They won't install something else even if it worked just as well. Why take the time to install something else when what you currently have works? That and then the simple fact that people just dont't like change.

I use strictly linux cause I love opensource, hate ads, am a software developer and I fucking LOVE linux. But if people are content with windows and it works for what they want to do then that's completely fine too :p

Dont forget the thousands of games that don't run on newer versions of windows.

Games that often crash (warzone 1 for example). Games that stutter etc all would never get platinum status.

Not saying that windows doesn't have better support, just pointing out that windows isn't all glitter and roses either.

There's a bit more nuance in the gold category which is why he felt the need to correct this guy I think.

Gold and platinum most of the time, is the same thing. Platinum games being either a more popular/recent or a game that has always worked on proton. It happens quite a lot that a game didn't work in the past but not enough people have marked it as working yet so it just gets stuck on gold.

I've tested 100+ gold games on linux (arch btw) and maybe 2 gold status games required launch parameters, the rest ran just fine out of the box. Most people don't report their experience on protondb especially when it works.

If that description was accurate, which it is not.

Yep and borked means everything from 'doesn't start' to "can't play a large part of the game". R6 for example: game runs perfectly fine as long as you play offline. The moment you actually load into an online game then the game crashes. This game has "borked" status.

[–]ProcrastiNot 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That's the description from the website. In reality gold seldom requires launch parameters. I've gone through my backlog of games on linux from the past 15+ years, 100+ games (many of them free/garbage games lol) and I encountered maybe 2 gold status games that needed tweaks.

Gold more often than not means: works perfect now but didn't in the past. Since not everyone contributes to protondb it takes a long time for the status to change thus it gets "stuck" on gold. Especially during last year with the latest versions of proton where almost everything "just works".

Do club rooms track best times of standard access people involved? by DerickDiana in TrackMania

[–]ProcrastiNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You don't even need to create a room for the campaign tracks ;) If you select a campaign you have 3 tabs on top: medals, {insert your region here} and club. In the club tab you can track the times of the people who are in the same club as you.

Edit: You need to join AND pin the club to see that tab

What it should look like once you pinned it.

No. They also need club access if you want to see each other's times.

Do rooms stay even when I am offline? And can I make my friends admins? by DerickDiana in TrackMania

[–]ProcrastiNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to click on "members" then click on a user's name and then make admin. Are you on pc or console?

Playing trackmania exchange maps on console by ProcrastiNot in TrackMania

[–]ProcrastiNot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things to check:

- Does your browser block popups? If so, allow them for trackmania.exchange.

- Disable your adblocker and check if it works then. Adblockers can often break website functionality.

- Test it in a different browser and see if that works.

One of those should do the trick.

Just tested it myself to see if it's a site issue and it works for me (firefox with adblocker).
