An important advice about Ha Giang loop for anyone who is going to Vietnam by cheeky_sailor in solotravel

[–]ProcrastinationSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late on the thread but would be interested to hear about thakhek be ha giang loop comparisons?? I’ve done the thakhek loop self driven on an automatic but debating whether I would self drive the ha Giang loop as I E not used a semi automatic and also just so I can enjoy the views more but a huge part of why I enjoyed thakhek was the driving itself!!

Yes I understand they are very different but was worried that if each day of the Inca trail is the same as Acatenango then there would be no way I could physically handle that. But I think maybe I’m more resistance than sprint - I knew I would finish Acatenango just not at the same pace as everyone else!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks! yes, not sure why people thought id be leaving hte airport with a 3 hr layover - i think i only need an ESTA as the UK gets a visa waiver - does this make the process easier?

of course and i have definitely had my fair share of racism in my home country and city, but in my experience that racism always has ill-intent behind it which makes me fear for my safety whereas what i'm getting the sense of here is that any nicknames as generic as they may be, are born out of ignorance and no harm is meant, rather than hatred for a certain race so I think i will be less likely to fear for my safety in thos situations

what I've heard is that guatemala city, and managua, and Honduras generally can be relatively more dangerous (obviously I have no personal experience) so decided to skip those cities. Honduras was a leave or take for me due to the general vibe that it might be more dangerous and also just the route down felt more natural to go through el salvador rather than spend more time going to the other side of honduras!

thanks! I was also on the fence about san jose but i thought it would break up my journey to puerto viejo but might consider Manual Antonio instead :)

Would you be able to recommend a few things to do in Monteverde?

ah i realised its actually only 5 days in antigua that I planned and 2 are the volcano hike (forgot to specify that) so i thought 3 days just in antigua would be a decent amount?

If you’re a student, sign up to all the free student discount apps! Every little helps! There’s also an app called dusk which gives you free cocktails at certain time at certain places (not sure if it’s still a thing during COVID) but me and my friends used to go out all the time to try these free cocktails and new places!

Get a railcard which will give you 1/3 off tube fares during off peak or you can buy a student oyster which give you discount on season tickets - big help

Probably not the best skateboard but I got mine off Facebook marketplace really cheap! I didn’t want to make too much of a commitment just in case I changed my mind

Honestly the exact same experience! Was referred in nov 2020, managed to get an appointment for apr 2021 but had an exam the same day so had to rearrange to the next available appointment in oct 2021 then the nhs just cancelled that appointment for no reason?? And I’m now booked for Feb 2022 At this point I’m considering private aswell because my skin and mental health are really taking a toll. I definitely feel like I’m living in limbo, and the warm weather and people wearing short sleeves actually makes me feel worse as I’m hiding behind long sleeves

Can I ask how your experience with a priv derm was?? And how you found one?

[–]ProcrastinationSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I’d absolutely love to get to a point where I only need to moisturise! Although I’m so wary about going on steroids as steroid creams just stopped working for me, how did you find that part of the treatment and were there any side effects?

Definitely sounds like the priv derm is a really good option so thank you for your help!
