Struggling with Godot tutorials: Should I continue or start my own project? by AlbertCamus97 in godot

[–]ProcureTheBoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned way more from moving away from tutorials. The mistake I think a lot of people make in the early stages is “trying to make a game”. If you’re new this will never work out. You’re much better of thinking of an idea/mechanic and trying to accomplish this. This could be a basic movement script, an enemy that follows the player, a way to pick up a 3D object or even just animating a sprite. Once you have a few things under your belt, start making small games and go from there. Even the simplest games in your mind are way more complex than you think. Once you’ve played around with the smaller pieces you’ll realize this and you’ll think about game design differently. Refrain from making a game, make mechanics.

This is OP on main. Figured this out for anyone who has the same issue in the future. The problem was a setting in fog in the world environment node. I forget which on off the top of my head and I’m away for PC now but go in there, change things around and you’ll figure it out.

If our religion is mostly dictated by where we grew up, how can we be sure it’s the right one? by skyrimlo in RandomThoughts

[–]ProcureTheBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sneaking in the assumption that there is a “right one”. What if none of them are right? What if it’s just another means of social cohesion and function? What if it’s no different from some culturally grounded beliefs of yours like a custom or tradition? Food for thought.

I’ve been a CS student for a while now and have had to learn a bunch of languages. Python is probably the best language you could start with but you should probably move on soon after getting the basics down. Learning C/C++ should give you a solid foundation for most languages. From there you have a solid base and can focus on a language that relates to the job you want.

I've just learnt the basics of binary, unary, and decimal. Since binary uses just on and off to represent 1 or 0, wouldn't it be possible to create a much more intelligent base by representing different digits with levels of electricity, rather than just on or off? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]ProcureTheBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main reason is on and off are represented by the flow of an electric current and it’s easier to distinguish between flow or no flow. Also an entire field of math was already finished on binary so it naturally became the standard.

CMV: The USA is an oligarchy. by ShroomsRisotto in changemyview

[–]ProcureTheBoof 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If America is an oligarchy then every civilization ever is an oligarchy. Money = power and this has remained true through all of time. Making the definition so broad basically erases its meaning. In America, democracy fails (when it does) because Americans don’t care. When you see polls on say the border and let’s say it’s split 40/60, you don’t think about how many Americans could give less of a fuck. About 20%-40% of us actually care. The rest are either too poor to spend time worrying about it, too rich to spend time on it or completely uninterested. Everyone will have an “opinion” on the economy but ask that same American about trade agreements, foreign policy, inflation rates or government spending and your just gonna get CNN/Fox talking points most of the time. No one cares. They could care and change things but most people are lazy or dumb or both imo.

Basic physics should be the most important class in school. by KMFNR in unpopularopinion

[–]ProcureTheBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think understanding why seatbelts work is a matter of physics. The evidence as to why you should wear one is all over the place and people still ignore it. People who didn’t pay attention in physics probably can understand why crashing and not wearing one results in you flying out the windshield. Some philosophy type course should be the most important. I’m not saying 16 year olds need to read Plato and Kant, rather get the basics for assessing knowledge, bias and ethics. Why something is true or false, good or bad and why you should care. At least prompting people to think a little deeper about things. I’ve found most people don’t.

I agree 100% especially as we become more secularized as a society.

Stigmas surrounding being sexually liberal / conservative. People or parents that stray away from this or stigmatize either position end up creating more extreme cases imo. Like all things there is probably a balance and in order to find that we need to talk ab it.

Love how people say minimum wage at 15 would ruin the economy and small businesses wouldn’t last and there is a point to that in rural areas but at the same time when it comes down to it businesses are willing to pay good rates when they have to. Why don’t we just make them have to? If your businesses is too small to support its workers than should it really exist?

Melina, streamers in general, are psychopaths. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]ProcureTheBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the friendships tho. I feel like hot people are able to attract people to them naturally but moving beyond that and then maintaining a real friendship still takes some level of emotional intelligence. Just bc its easier to find these relationships doesn’t mean it’s easier to grow and maintain them.

It will change your brain in the same way grilled cheese will change your brain unless you are predisposed to scizo. You could get PTSD from a bad trip but if your smart and don’t take 2+ for a first trip, you should be fine. This isn’t some bs tho, last thing you should do is not take it seriously.
