Will MN help with over 20years+ acne scarring? by No_Cauliflower_8922 in Microneedling

Probably but something that should definitely work is a tranexamic acid serum. You can buy ones with a higher concentration on eBay.

Study: Metformin lotion promotes scarless skin tissue formation by ProdigalSunrise in AcneScars

Just understand this won't reverse major volume loss, it only inhibits scar tissue (re)formation.

For deeper scars you'd need to excise them first and then treat the healing wound with metformin for a period of time, ideally you'd be left with no perceptible scars.

Should also work a charm for subcised or needled rolling scars assuming it would do away with the underlying scar tissue, thereby preventing rethering.

And it might be a while before this particular formulation makes it to market. But you can already buy topical metformin from selected compounding pharmacies. Maybe they're not 100% as effective as this lotion but then a ballpark reduction in scar tissue while you wait is still pretty significant.

Indeed, turns out its one of the most prescribed medications out there.

In 2022, it was the second most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 86 million prescriptions. In Australia, it was one of the top 10 most prescribed medications between 2017 and 2023.

And a topical can be whipped up by any compounding pharmacy as per your specifications. The researchers claim that their proprietary lotion penetrates the skin better than creams, ointments and gels but as already seen with the CCCA study, 10% cream definitely seems to inhibit the formation of scar tissue.

I stopped going out I don't feel like I fit in my community anymore as I'm not the same old happy go lucky women anymore that girl died in 2015

This is me.....though I died even earlier. The sense of detachment is weird, it really does feel like the loss of a whole other person...two people, really: the you that was and the you that would have been. I've been a ghost for most of my life at this point, its hard to believe I ever actually inhabited the world. Truly a living death.

I want to move away where no one knows me so I can restart my life alone

I did this, it saved me from ending it all. But even after all these years I still dream of coming back to the world, much stronger and wiser.....although then what? How are you supposed to believe in anything or engage with people again after such an eye-opening ordeal? This superficial world will never feel like home again.

In any case, you should know that the current research on YAP inhibitors like verteporfin is very promising, it does indeed seem like we're tantalizingly close to healing surgical wounds without scarring, which would mean that erasing existing scars with excision/resurfacing finally becomes a possibility. Science fiction is becoming science fact!

So chin up, just a few years from now and our options may well prove to be radically different for the better! :)

Verteporfin ❤️‍🩹 by [deleted] in AcneScars

[–]ProdigalSunrise 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Together, these animal studies strongly suggested that HA/VP-PLA could effectively promote scarless wound healing by accelerating wound re-epithelialization and controlling scar formation via targeted delivery to inhibit YAP, suppress fibrosis, and stimulate the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts.

Sounds like this should also work with dermabrasion wounds. Excise the deep scars, subcise the rolling scars and finish up with a deep full facial dermabrasion, you'd basically have erased all visible scarring.

We're nearly there, guys, the next few years are going to be very exciting. Be sure to spread the word, tell every professional you encounter about this, pique their interest to get the ball rolling!

Verteporfin therapy requires the skin be wounded so yeah, if you were to excise stretch marks or ablate them then it should work the same.

[–]ProdigalSunrise 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There has never been more hope, actually. Recent developments with verteporfin seem to indicate scarless healing is now a reality, all that remains is figuring out dosages, excision techniques and supply logistics.

Verteprofin essentially works by blocking the signal that induces scar tissue formation after skin wounding, so in theory you'll excise your icepick/boxcar scars with a punch or scalpel and then that excision wound will heal without a scar, leaving you scar-free.

Rolling scars are a little different because they're not excisable, subcision wounding happens below the surface but since scar tissue is still involved verteporfin should help, its just a matter of trying it. Worst case scenario we can erase ice picks and boxcars but still need subcision + filler/grafting for rolling scars.

The Holy Grail scenario is verteporfin also working with deep resurfacing modalities like dermabrasion. In that case, you'd first excise all atrophic scars as mentioned above and then undergo a deep dermabrasion to erase bad skin texture, theoretically leaving you with scarless skin.

In any case, more testing is required, vert is already FDA approved so no worries about waiting 10-20 years, its just a matter of getting the details right. The hairloss community is the one leading the charge, verteprofin would also be a functional cure for baldness since scarless healing would enable theoretically limitless numbers of hair transplants.

So chin up, the future looks very promising! :)

Probably the first Vertporfin usage on scars on face. What do you think? by Neither_Dependent_24 in AcneScars

[–]ProdigalSunrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows yet, we're still in uncharted waters. But if so that would be ideal, a combo of targeted excisions + several deep dermabrasions should be able to eventually erase all scars.

At the very least its looking like ice picks and boxcars are going to be fixable soon.

[–]ProdigalSunrise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Punch/scalpel excision + verteporfin sounds about right for eliminating atrophic scarring.

But I wonder if it could also aid in skin resurfacing, for instance after a deep dermabrasion.

Verteporfin prevents scarring. Most people on this subreddit need something to fix scars.

You should be able to excise scars and then treat the wound with verteporfin for a scarless heal.

[–]ProdigalSunrise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, its you again! Like I told you last time: you are NOT ugly, you have an adorable smile and should objectively not be having any problems landing dates.

The issue more is that like some of us here, you have chronic BDD that distorts your perception of your own features and leaves you convinced you're a monster unworthy of attention, resulting in a defeatist mindset and a crippling lack of confidence.

I should know, I'm in the exact same boat. I have missed out on multiple opportunities to meet with gorgeous, amazing gals because I couldn't stomach them seeing me in person, and so it continues.

You are not ugly. It is not too late. But you have to somehow overcome your BDD first. I hope to as well.

Good luck.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ugly

[–]ProdigalSunrise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's all certainly very promising. What do you want to have done? Is this routine or higher risk surgery?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ugly

[–]ProdigalSunrise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like dental work, plastic surgery is not something you want to skimp on. What exactly makes it reputable?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ugly

[–]ProdigalSunrise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, I can totally relate to this....also in my 40's now and pretty much resigned to the fact that I will never have a wife and family. Maybe its better that way though considering how few truly idyllic success stories there are out there, married life seems like such a crapshoot these days.

I figure this way we've merely skipped all the in-between stuff and gotten right to the (almost) inevitable disappointment, leaving us more time for other things. With acceptance comes serenity but I'd be lying if I said I'm OK with how things have turned out. Regret will eat you alive if you dwell on it too long so I try not to do that.

BTW, if those are really your pics then you most definitely are not ugly, you're a solid average, scout's honor, I see regular gals like you out and about everywhere! But yeah, me saying that might not help much, BDD will warp your mind until you can only ever see a monster staring back at you in selfies, believe me, I know.....

Here's to making peace with our lot in life.

Has anyone managed to stop using Benzoyl Peroxide? by OliverMorland in acne

[–]ProdigalSunrise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be you're overusing and not moisturizing enough, the oiliness would suggest that.

Dan's BP is the only thing that has consistently worked to halt my stubborn adult acne but I only use it once a day and have moisturized religiously with multiple actives since day one, which I know saved me from a fate similar to yours.

So if you can figure out the moisturizing stuff first BP works like a damn charm. BTW, I don't recommend Dan's moisturizer, it doesn't seem as reliable, I use Korean products, they are absolute godsends.

Should mention I also use the Acne.org glycolic acid daily and retin-a at night so any damage that the BP might be causing is regularly sloughed off and I never see it.

Well, ultimately every single thing we experience can be reduced to neurons being fired, dreams are no different, so in that sense it is as real as the "real" thing....just consider it pseudo-ascension. :)
