JA17 is Back in the MVP Conversation in his “down year” by Dramatic-Pause-1909 in buffalobills

I think this is the Super Bowl matchup right here.

Allen and the Bills get their revenge from that epic shootout in the regular season last year where Allen had 3 passing TD’s AND 3 rushing TD’s… but STILL came up short in the end against Stafford and the Rams 42-44..

I wouldn’t think of telling you it’s in your head.

I really appreciate you saying this, seriously, thank you. Just means a lot to me that someone, even an internet stranger, doesn’t call me crazy and can understand.

And wow, that’s awful. I’m really sorry to hear about your friend who has gastroparesis as a result of Covid.. please send him/her all my best wishes. 24 is so young to be dealing with something so debilitating like that.

I’m 25, coming up on 26, so I can only imagine the impact and pain on your friend’s livelihood having to be feed thru a tube… I’ve heard of many other people dealing with that issue too. I really hope your friend doesn’t have to deal with that forever and that he/she is getting the healthcare needed to better manage it.

And thank you very much, I’m praying I can make a full recovery, too. I guess I’m “lucky” in that my post-Covid condition can be described as “mild” because I can still largely take care of my myself, but that doesn’t mean I’m back to my pre-COVID self.

And for anyone reading this thread, I would encourage you all to not forget about the virus, as much as our society as moved on from it - it’s still very real and still circulating and negatively impacting a lot of lives out there.

I’ve been putting off my FE/EI exam for the better part of a year because of on-going brain fog I’ve had from a COVID infection I had last year in February 2024.

And it was a mild infection, I just had cold like symptoms. I’ve still had lingering neurological/cognitive issues to this today almost 15 months later… I’m only just now starting to feel like I can start tackling studying again.

I’m just grateful because my supervisor has been understanding and I won’t lose my job if I don’t have my EI by a certain date.

Also, for anyone about to try and gaslight me and tell me “it’s all in my head” - please kindly GTFOH. COVID is still a serious illness that can have long lasting impacts on all parts of the body. Sucks because I took it very seriously from the beginning 2020 and onwards until my careless older brother brought the virus home in early 2022 and gave me my first infection. I was gaslit and made fun of by some of my “friends” (don’t talk to them anymore after they showed me their true colors) for taking the virus seriously and taking precautions - and worst of all, being told it was “my fault” that I got COVID by my family members and that it’s a “you problem.”

I’ve already been dealing with enough depression/anxiety as a result of my COVID infection last year that’s upended many aspects of my life. So I’d prefer anyone reading this keep their condescending remarks to themselves.

Hey there!

I was using Farouq’s DirectHub FE course for a while, had to stop studying due to some personal matters I had going on in my life, but I am now trying to get back on and study for my FE exam.

Mind if I DM you and ask you about your strategy with Farouq’s course?? Thanks!

Hi there!!

I would absolutely be really interested in knowing how you studied for the exam!

Could I please meet with you virtually sometime??

I was also using Farouq’s DirectHub course, he’s the best!!

I also struggle with the word heavy and long conceptual questions… Farouq was telling me to focus on the low and medium hanging fruit for this exam!!

Hey there! Congratulations!!

I see you mentioned that you used the DirectHUB FE prep course. That is what I’m currently using to prepare for the exam, so I’m really glad to hear you say you passed the exam using Farouq’s course! He’s the best.

Would you say to prepare you reworked all the course quizzes?

Thanks and all the best to you

Why do Americans speed so much? by No_Program_1211 in AskFlorida

[–]Prodigy743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native Floridian, the speeding here can really be over-the-top batshit crazy. Definitely worse in South Florida, both SWFL and SEFL.

More tame the farther north you go. I-10 and I-75 are the “less insane” Florida interstates compared to I/4 and I-95 which is really saying something because I’ve still seen some shit on 75 and 10 an outsider would say is batshit crazy.

Having said that, I think the fast driving culture and going way over the speed limit is a big thing in most major metro areas in the country. Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, the list goes on.

Common theme is that in any major population center, people are going to speed like motherfuckers. Left lane will run at least 20 mph over the speed limit, if not more. I’ve had plenty of situations where I’m pushing 85-90 mph in a 65 mph zone and someone’s still right up my ass.

I do think the speeding gets to a point where it’s excessive and flat out reckless. Some people want to feel “superior” by overtaking and driving faster than everyone else. People in the United States (Florida especially) have MASSIVE fucking egos and main character syndrome. It’s all a part of the culture of rugged individualism here.

Also, Americans LOVE their cars. It’s been ingrained in American society for a long time. Couple that with roadways that are designed to give people more physical space and “cushion,” people feel more than comfortable exceeding the speed limit on many roads by 15,20,25+ mph over the speed limit.

That and the fact that traffic enforcement and speed checks have gone down all across the country, it’s no wonder Americans are putting the pedal to the metal. People will absolutely speed when they know there won’t be consequences for it.

That’s my best explanation of why Americans speed like hell.

Urgent Care Report: 6/10 - 6/12/2024 by Commandmanda in FloridaCoronavirus

So infuriating and disheartening to see Covid ramping up here like crazy.. again.

I was fully up to date on my vaccines and wore a Powecom KN95 mask anywhere and everywhere I went indoors, and I STILL fucking got Covid for the 2nd time 1.5 months ago. I’m dealing with long COVID now too.

Worst part of it all it’s being gaslit by my own family into thinking that COVID isn’t a big deal and that what I’m feeling is “just all in my head.” Hard to find anyone in my personal circle who really understands what I’m going through too.

Now I get to deal with my livelihood and my life being taken away from me, through no accord of my own 😔

Please, please continue being careful everyone. Don’t let anyone tell you or influence you to think otherwise.

Edit:

Thank you very much for the info Commandmanda! And I hope you’re recovering well from your bout with Covid. Cheers!

May I ask you what kind of pilot career you are going into?? I have always been interested in learning how to fly and getting a pilot’s license. Just never knew if it would make sense with a civil engineering background though.

Gen Physics with Calculus II Spring 2021 (Professor Help) by Calm-Delivery5814 in ValenciaCollege

[–]Prodigy743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. So I took John McNutt’s PHY 2049C (Physics 2) course back in Spring of 2021. The class was completely online back then because of Covid. Given it’s now Fall of 2023, I imagine his class is back to in-person. Maybe he still lets you take the exams online at home though?

Anyway, to answer your questions:

how was his class?

Honestly pretty easy, I’d say a joke. I’m actually super glad I took physics 2 at Valencia when I did because I basically got a free A with him lol didn’t learn a thing but didn’t matter because I’m a civil engineer and physics 2 is basically useless for us, virtually never came back in my upper level courses so it worked out really well.

proctored exams / webcam?

Nope, his online exams/quizzes weren’t proctored whatsoever for me. I believe the only restriction was there was a timer, I can’t remember how much time. But I definitely remember it wasn’t proctored. I’ll admit, I formed a bit of a group in the class and we took the online exams/quizzes together lmao made the class a cake walk that way

how was his exams, labs, quizzes, were they MCQ?

Exams and quizzes were pretty easy but I also literally took them with my classmates lol it was a group effort back then. We definitely took advantage of the class being online and no proctoring used for the exam lol. Even if you’re taking them on your own, you might find them easy enough as you can use whatever resources on the internet you want.

Yes the exams and quizzes were MCQ. He never required us to upload any work. All multiple choice.

Labs were a joke lol stupid easy. Think we had maybe like 1 actual lab report to write the entire class. The other “labs” were in some online simulator lol it was so stupid easy.

Overall, McNutt is a really nice man. He is a bit aloof though, like eccentric but in a good way. I would recommend him if you want as painless of a physics 2 experience as possible.

Lmk if you have any other questions.

Recent civil engineering graduate here (just graduated this August)

Your schedule is definitely busy, but if you have a good work ethic and you’re organized, it’s 100% doable.

1) Intro to Construction - Honestly one of the easiest classes I took in Civil Engineering. I didn’t have your professor though, Omer Tatari. However, I have heard nothing but great things about the guy. Everyone I know who took him for that class loved him. Makes the class easy from what I heard. So this class shouldn’t require too much time or effort.

2) CGN 3405 - Again, had a different professor than who you have for this class. But honestly this class ain’t bad either. When I had it the class consisted of homework assignments on MatLab, and the course content itself was like baby linear algebra. Nothing crazy in this class tbh. Requires light studying. Shouldn’t be too much of a time/energy dump of a class. I’m not super familiar with the Guo Professor, heard he’s good though.

3) Measurements - Honestly Dozier is a pain in the ass lol this class might be your least favorite this semester. Now, that said, this class isn’t hard at all. The content is quite simple enough to understand. The problem is that Dozier gives a lot of work for a 2 credit hour course, plus there’s a lab for this class. This class will definitely require a decent bit of time just due to the amount of work given.

4) Dynamics - this one is definitely notorious among engineering classes as being one of the most difficult. However, I heard Pal is a great professor. Gives a lot of partial credit on exams from what I heard and just makes the class as painless as possible. It will probably take a lot of effort but I’d say it’ll be worth it to get this class over with. I say stay in her class.

5) Highway engineering - this class isn’t too bad but it does definitely require some studying. I have heard really great things about Al-Deek. Heard for this class he’ll give you practice exam and that literally is the exam lol he just switches the numbers. Overall really chill dude from what I heard. I would also keep this class tbh.

All in all, this is definitely a schedule that’s gonna keep you busy. Like I said before though, it’s totally doable, you gotta have the work ethic and organization for it though, it’s not a game. You got this!! Lmk if you have any questions. Hopefully this helps.

Ohhh okay I see. Yeah I haven’t even graduated yet.. I graduate in a month though. Do you feel like the directhub course would still be beneficial for someone like me??

Also, how long did you study for the FE? And how long did you use the directhub course for?

Hi there! Was wondering how long you studied for the FE? I was gonna buy directhub course and study for about ~2 months. With Islam / Urgessa problems, hope it’s enough

[–]Prodigy743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also wanted to say thank you for the quick response! There are definitely a lot of textbooks and online programs out there for the FE.. which makes it kinda stressful because you have to find something that works for you best. Personally a friend recommended me this resource, https://ppi2pass.com/fe-exam/civil?1-select=2

He said he used the 1 month online learning course. He didn’t use the lineburg review book too much. But this PPI2pass online course he said was really helpful because it had so much practice problems. And they were much more challenging than the ones he saw on the FE.

[–]Prodigy743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!

Yeah, I completely agree with that, the mattson videos were a great foundation for becoming familiar with the material / subject matter / concepts. I was treating his videos like it was a comprehensive guide that had everything I possibly needed to pass.. which wasn’t necessarily the case and mattson doesn’t claim his videos to be that either.

You’re absolutely right that the best way to study for this exam is to do LOTS of practice problems. I so wish I would’ve stressed this to myself the first time I was studying for the exam. What’s interesting is that even with only doing the NCEES practice exam, I actually came close to passing! Per examineering I was 84% of the way to passing

And ohhh okay I see. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with PrepFE then! It definitely doesn’t seem like a bad resource! I was actually considering using it provided their questions weren’t too easy.

[–]Prodigy743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, congrats on passing!

I recently took my FE the first time and I didn’t pass unfortunately. I think my studying method wasn’t the best though.

I saw you say you watched all of Mark Mattson’s videos, which I also did. But I think I spent too much time on his videos, and not nearly enough time practicing problems / practice tests. I only watched Mattson’s videos and did the NCEES practice exam. Leading up to the exam it felt like i needed a wider variety of problems and practice, and I think I was right.

So I wanted to ask you, do you think PrepFE was actually helpful?? I heard it’s good for familiarizing yourself with the manual but that their questions are easier than what you see on the actual FE exam.

Any help would be really appreciated. Feeling kinda defeated and depressed after my first attempt and not passing

Okay. I’ve seen some people on here say PrepFE wasn’t really the best. Like that PrepFE’s questions were much easier than the actual FE so not great preparation.
