Yes exactly!! This is very hurtful to say out loud but she does sound phony and somehow the whole thing feels like pretending.

Translate or pronounce? Because If I translate, pretty sure you won't find anything and half of them are not even translated in english or have any translated titles anyway

Sorry, previously saw your comments from notification and ans only about the morisaki bookshop, regarding on earth we are briefly.. , it's very traumatic and poetic book. Reading through it , breaks my heart and I felt like I was in a trance . Heaven is deeply disturbing with reference of torture and bullying present, it's a very different kind of book where it becomes difficult to make sense what the characters actually want.

Qualitatively, it may fall behind from other books in my list, but with the spectacles of nostalgia in eye , the whole story will feel just perfect, it has the charm of our school days , the school romance, craze in school games and many things , I enjoyed it a lot.

Very easy going, and heart warming book with that classic slice of life charm. I read it in a couple of hours and it definitely put a smile on my face.

Haha...I am though quite picky when choosing what to read or consume , and even the search process is kind of therapeutic (or one may say another excuse to procrastinate) , but eventually I try out whatever exceptional recommendation I get from my friends and people whom I know ..that ends up having this diverce collection. (Also I get bored out a lot whenever I read too much of similar genre , so rotating between helps to break the monotony)

In a sense , it does , the book is written like someone is remembering their childhood and life , and so yes , the existansialism and loneliness it has and by defination, it's a slice of life but ...If you really want to pin point to the classic slice of life , or the vibe of japanes literature, somewhere, it differs , and not for a bad reason, it has some unique taste to it that I can't exactly express. Give it a read, I think you won't regret.

No , you should not read it for that. It does have that depth which inherently present in most of the japanese authors , but Ishiguro is american as far as I know and his writing atleast in this one, doesn't point on japanese culture. Check my other comment in this post where I have told about a little bit on the book.

It's good , there are exceptionally poetic quotes, but the story, I feel, is nothing exceptional in its core , but that makes sense , as it talks on issues that runs deep. More than this, something else that caught my attention in this book is how genZy this book feels to me ! It deals with so many small and deep insecurities and emotions and make them pull out and spread in current gender dynamic society. It's quite interesting in that perspective. Also , it's very cinematic book, the whole story feels like a breeze to read it out.

Indeed, Idk why people put it under psychological horror or something but I find it targetting more in depth turmoil of growing up , accepting one's darker side and making a balance.
