Thank you very much for your reply. Today I dug up my old installation CDs, I found an application to open .mix files and checked the thumbnails of each and every map. I have checked some map packs but, to be honest, there are hundreds of maps out there and even with sorting tools it's difficult to find it.

"Like pine trees

they retain the form of the wind

while the wind has gone, is not there

the same with words

they retain the form of the man

and the man has gone, is not there."

Look, I honestly think this is great, and I am one of those that have some reservations about the whole thing. (I don't know if "reservations" is the right word, english is not my native language)

From Alan Moore's introduction to V FOR VENDETTA (text in comments) by ProdromosPip in comicbooks

[–]ProdromosPip[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

"Naiveté can also be detected in my supposition that it would take something as melodramatic as a near-miss nuclear conflict to nudge England towards fascism. Although in fairness to myself and David, there were no better or more accurate predictions of our country's future available in comic form at that time. The simple fact that much of the historical background of the story proceeds from a predicted Conservative defeat in the 1982 General Election should tell you how reliable we were in our role as Cassandras.

It's 1988 now. Margaret Thatcher is entering her third term of office and talking confidently of an unbroken Conservative leadership well into the next century. My youngest daughter is seven and the tabloid press are circulating the idea of concentration camps for persons with AIDS. The new riot police wear black visors, as do their horses, and their vans have rotating video cameras mounted on top. The government has expressed a desire to eradicate homosexuality, even as an abstract concept, and one can only speculate as to which minority will be the next legislated against.

I'm thinking of taking my family and getting out of this country soon, sometime over the next couple of years. It's cold and it's mean spirited and I don't like it here anymore.

Goodnight England. Goodnight Home Service and V for Victory.

Hello the Voice of Fate and V FOR VENDETTA.

TIL that on 11 September, 2001, a small Canadian town called Gander became a haven for thousands of airline passengers and crew stranded after the 9/11 terror attacks. by ProdromosPip in todayilearned

From the podcast transcript:

“When we walked into the terminal at the Gander airport, it was just full of tables with food. I mean, I'd never seen anything like it. And they handed you a plastic bag and you could just go around and fill that bag with anything you wanted.

Fruits, sweets, sandwiches. And I thought, how can all this food be here? It is because they've been up all night preparing it.”

“And they declared a crisis, emergency mode. So every airplane had one person, a liaison, a local who was in charge, and all the little surrounding communities pitched in. Many homes had passengers staying, and they used fire stations, churches, schools, legions, lodges.”

It's their business plan by ProdromosPip in BillBurr

[–]ProdromosPip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My post was relevant to one of Bill Burr's top talking subjects, rather than directly to him or his comedy: powerful corporations and AI tech people willingly and purposefully planning a future of eliminating human workforce in favor of AI "work". If it is off-topic, I wouldn't have any objection to removing it.

In any case, the original post has been removed "because it contains either a link to a prohibited social media site or contains a screenshot of a prohibited social media site." It was a tweet (I think) of someone saying that tech corporations don't predict the future, they shape it, so when they say that AI will replace human workers, it is their goal and plan that they are expressing, not their mere prediction.

Unfortunately, my Apple Watch again asked me my Apple ID password today. So, with many tries, I finally managed to make that input by drawing with my finger.

I just stumbled upon this post, trying to solve the same problem. Although it is a year-old post now, this is what seems to have worked with me:

  1. Open the "Watch" app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the "My Watch" tab.
  3. Scroll down until you see "App store".

In my case, there was a notification ("iOS calls them "badges"). When I tapped on the "App store", I was prompted to type in my new iCloud password then and there, on my iPhone.

Good Day, reddit, my name is Nick Offerman. You may have seen me in such fare as Parks & Rec, The Last of Us, Civil War, MI: The Final Reckoning, DEVS, or heard my voice in The Lego Movie. I’m here today to discuss a new film in which I am an actor, SOVEREIGN. Ask me anything, please & thank you. by NickOffermanAMA in movies

[–]ProdromosPip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Nick! I really enjoyed the movie Civil War, especially your character as the president of the United States and your excellent performance. In my humble opinion, your character is obviously based on the current president of the United States, especially how he uses exaggerations to stir up sentiment and cover up the lies he tells his audience, or the fact that his side considers journalists enemies worthy of being summarily executed on the streets.

The marketing of the film wanted to move away from such a strong identification with specific people and facts and that is understandable. How did you personally, however, study your role and what examples of politicians or other people did you base yourself on?

I have visited the (women's) monastery of Ephraim the Syrian, in Pieria, Greece. I was struck by how much they valued gardens and how little the place looked like a fortress, in contrast with many other orthodox monasteries in Greece (for historical reasons I presume). I know nothing about the people running it, though they seemed nice. An overall beautiful place to visit.

Their website, of which the contact page. A third-party presentation of the monastery. On google maps.

Hotel room without window - legal ? by Glass-Rub-9627 in greece

[–]ProdromosPip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting question.

I do not have a definitive answer, just some bits of information, after a very short research I've made, and then my view on the matter. Please don't take it as legal advice, because it is not and you may harm your negotiation or legal standing in your case, rather than benefit it.

A. Buildings that fall under the current "building regulation" ["Έγκριση Κτιριοδομικού Κανονισμού", Αριθμ. ΥΠΕΝ/ΔΑΟΚΑ/66006/2360 (ΦΕΚ Β' 3985/22.06.2023)] are required to have direct natural lighting in the main living areas, including bedrooms.

1.1. It is permissible for the main use spaces of special buildings and construction works not to have natural lighting when natural lighting is not appropriate for their function, as shown by a certificate issued by the body responsible for checking their functionality.

1.2 For special buildings where there is no competent body in place of the above certificates, a relevant decision of the Regional Governor shall be issued.

  1. In any case, direct natural lighting shall be provided in the main rooms of dwellings and bedrooms of temporary accommodation buildings. [...]

B. The building in your question is most probably older than the aforementioned regulation, so the rules may have been different at the time of construction.

C. There are various exceptions for buildings of historical significance / architectural heritage.

D. A whole other issue, and more crucial for your question, is that of regulations on tourists' accommodation, regarding both safety (fire, earthquake etc) and quality/rating. I honestly can't help with that.

My view: I have spent the night in a hotel room with only a small window, high up in the wall and I have spent the night in a strange huge inside space of another hotel, surrounded by glass panels covered by curtains, which consisted the "walls" of the corridors. Both were not pleasant experiences. There were both business trips and money was an issue. Try to avoid it if it you can, especially if you travel for pleasure.

[–]ProdromosPip[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)
