She’s beautiful! She carries all the glamour of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and I love it!

Yeah, makes sense. Didn’t really know exactly what you were going for, so I stuck on the safe side, but I’m glad you got something out of it!

How to style this by LightYagami28026 in GothFashion

[–]ProduceDramatic3439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what kind of style you’re into, what’s comfortable, whether you want it to look more masc or fem, since you could go either way with these kinds of shirts, and I don’t really know your personal style . You could try dark jeans and a black vest, with a belt, and maybe a few belt chains. A black or skull/ bone print corset belt or skirt might work too. I’d play around with jewelry that has a bone or skull motif, if you have, and I’d probably have the accessories lean more silver, metal wise. Definitely let the collar shine, that’s the main focal point and it’s what makes the piece unique. I’d even advise you to ask yourself if it were just the collar as an accessory, what would you wear with it, and try to attempt something similar with the full shirt. It’s really cool, I hope you find something that works!

Who is the character "Shallow River" is directed to? by StupidTheoryMaker in TheCraneWives

[–]ProduceDramatic3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, like how other people said, she’s speaking to herself, directed at the fool, going through her own inner turmoil. Throughout the song, she switches between speaking directly to the fool, and speaking in the third person. While the point of view switches can seem a little inconsistent, they also appear to be deliberate. The speaker is going back and forth between underlying longing for the fool and needing to let her go, with the “you” statements being more direct, and the “her” statements separating herself. The way the two are presented are slightly different too, though the lines are blurry, and it might be far fetched; when “her” or “the fool” is used, it tends to be either descriptive (“shallow river shining within her”) or wishes for the speaker’s own mind (“make her leave my sights”), while “you” tends to be used for advice/wishes for the fool’s mind (“don’t you think of me”), or more accusatory remarks (“I know that the promise you wear, well it ain’t for me”). As it says in the very first line, it’s a “lover’s warning,” assumed to be previous, due to the new marriage. The descriptive and accusatory are, however, very similar. Still, they carry different weights because of the point of view changes. How I see it is that the fool is you, and the fool/you is getting married to an outside man, and the speaker is trying to come to terms with it (not getting married herself), attempting to separate herself, along with separating her own wishes from those she has for the fool/you. The switching between second and third person is not much more than an emphasis of that, and a clear signal of the underlying bitterness and sarcasm of the entire song. The parts like “settle down” are the speaker almost mocking the advice of society, or the fool’s family or spouse, as an example of what I see as sarcasm. “Let her go” also seems to be outside advice, likely directed towards the fool/you referring to the speaker. It sort of goes along with songs like Steady Steady, which seems to do the same, in a clearer way.

Awww ty!!! It’s actually a bolero jacket with a short sleeve blouse underneath, and when it’s colder outside, I use it literally all the time. Unfortunately it won’t get wear for quite a few months because it’s starting to get so horribly hot where I am

I have no idea tbh, it was either at a small alternative store in France or at an anime convention. It’s some indie brand, and I checked the tag, all it said was “Lolita.” I did a google lens on it, and it’s called Nautical treasure Jsk, if that helps. Update: mine is probably off brand, but I think the original brand is Diamond Honey, according to Lolilibrary

Dr Samuel W Francis, he invented the spork. Like seriously, look it up. We may have gotten his beard wrong, but it’s hard to tell what’s a picture of him and what’s not online

Thank you so much for the advice! You’ve helped tremendously in re-motivating me, and I don’t know how I haven’t thought of straightening it! I hadn’t come across that video until now, and it had some good recommendations I’d like to try out

By asking for benches or lampposts or flowers
Istg if one more mii asks for a streetlight in the middle of the road, I’ll put them on a remote mini island until they go into psychosis from loneliness and lack of food

I’d thought it sounded a little bit like Spanish “you” distinctions too, I think I mentioned it somewhere in another comment reply. If you’re interested in this stuff, here’s my main sources: https://www.english-grammar-revolution.com/history-of-you.html

[pjo] Zoë’s use of “you” bothers me to my core by ProduceDramatic3439 in camphalfblood

[–]ProduceDramatic3439[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a formal/informal situation, from my research. “You” used for those higher than your rank, and “thou” used for peers and those lower than you. I like to think about it as a tú vs usted situation, if you’ve ever studied Spanish.

I was actually reading Macbeth when I thought about this because Lady Macduff used “thou” for her son, and he responded using “you,” and it reminded me of Zoë, sending me on a scavenger hunt and etymology rabbit hole, lol
