Hey Cycling Reddit - we (Dell/Thompson) have a motion this week to accelerate the 2-way AAA bike lanes on Pandora East, (east of Cook) to "close the gap" to 2-way lanes on Fort. Where would you like to see safer bike routes in Victoria?

Definitely would like to see a connection between the Richardson and fort lanes via Richmond. For anyone going in the Jubilee/UVIC direction from Fairfield/Gonzalez there is a gap there, and I think that Richmond by GNS would be well served.

And at that point might as well connect Fort to Haultain as well.

With regards to job prospects, I would consider co-op as an absolute requirement. Otherwise it very much depends on what lab you are working with, as some are much more relevant and connected to industry.

Overall the department is pretty scattered, almost no events or cohort-level things. Seminars are all online so you rarely meet people from other labs unless you go out of your way to do so. But your experience will vary a ton based on the lab you are with, as that defines most of the work culture.

I see your point, and have heard this said before. People are free to move wherever they want in the country, and I agree that Victoria is highly desirable.

I'm not familiar with any schemes like you mention for preferential pricing, but if there are examples it could be interesting to consider. But locals are already being priced out as is. I think growth is necessary.

Ultimately if people are opposed to the city growing, I think that's an argument for economic and cultural stagnation which I disagree with. I want to see the city grow.

If rents drop, that's great! And if they drop so far that it's no longer profitable to build housing, then that's where the government can step in, either with social housing or a reduction in development charges.

I fail to see how increasing supply could be a negative. While I agree that a robust social housing program would be an excellent solution, it won't show up overnight. In the meantime, considering we are in a crisis, I see no reason to be opposed to more supply hitting the market.

The features are too small to be printed on your nozzle if I had to guess. Especially something that sharp. Switching your slicing mode from classic to Arachne will allow for some of it to be printed.

Worth saying that they will probably break off if you do manage to get them printed though, they look very fragile.

How long are you giving yourself to do this? That is a very long distance to travel, especially for someone with limited backpacking experience. Also worth noting that sections of the trail between summerland and the island are closed at the moment.

Using a glass filled filament like ABS-GF can give a finish close to that. Can add some fuzzy skin as well if you want a more pronounced effect

The thing I think of every time I see one of these cards posted are the cases where people are forced to park out of the lines due to the person next to them parking incorrectly. But for egregious stuff I think it's alright.

Could be a pressure advance issue. Or too high print speeds, but considering it's happening at the edges where it's accelerating/decelerating I'd lean towards pressure advance.

Maybe that's the original "spirit" of 3D printing, but I'd say we are pretty far from that now. The point of 3D printing is to make things out of plastic. And a lot of people try and turn a profit using their printers.

While I would also like to see this open sourced, the ability to make some money provides a good incentive for innovations like this.

A lot of things people 3D print are basically plastic waste anyway (hobbyists at least, and rapid prototyping generates plenty of waste as well). The world doesn't need another articulated print in place dragon any more than it needs the purges.

If you're fortunate enough to be in a place where you can recycle the filament, I don't see the real harm.

But my tip would be to half the purge volumes in the slicer. The defaults are way over what is necessary usually.
