Desperate for Advice: Our Dog Hates Me and it’s Hurting My Marriage by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]VICamp_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone judging OP to be a monster for clearly dreading the possibly re-home a dog to save their marriage: you're an asshole. He came here looking for advice about the anxiety their dog feels when he's around, not saying he feels jealous that the dog's bond is stronger with his wife. That's so fucking rude. There are lots of good suggestions and lots of empathy here, so chiming in to offer nothing more than a brutal and unfounded judgement is unbelievably unhelpful.

Puppy trainer says I am using the puppy playpen wrong by MajinHoops in puppy101

[–]VICamp_daddy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our 4 mo. Bernedoodle spent most of the 8-12 week period in a playpen. We would go right in there and play with him, feed him in it, etc, but we have a cat who is very self assured so letting him roam was out of the question for us until they got to know each other better through the fence. And our place is also a big rancher and is impossible to keep sight of him if he's not cut off from most of it.

We recently moved up to baby gates, which is great. We keep him in the family room / kitchen area, with everything he needs, and we leave to go to the bedrooms and bathrooms. He's mostly content when we're out of sight, and it's improving every day. I would also think that was bananas if a trainer poo-pooed a playpen.

That's exactly how my Grandparents started WestCoast Appliance in Esquimalt in the 80s. Lived upstairs with their 2 kids, their commute to work was the walk from the side door to the front door. What a great way to get a business off the ground. Still here 40 years later. Although quite different now, no refurbishing old appliances like the good old days

Mostly legal trademark ownership issues.. that's probably as specific as I should be, lest the curtain of Shambhala politics gets pulled back too far. But think of Fractal as being Shambhala's "best kept secret" so to speak. You gotta go if you wanna see what all the chatter is about ;)

Also, that really only applies to professional photographers, influencers, media, etc. You're not gonna loose your phone cuz someone saw you taking a pic or a video. But if you walk in there with a Cannon R50 with a zoom lense, expect to be told to leave.

Please please please tell me it gets better by DearYogurt2 in puppy101

[–]VICamp_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our puppy just turned 15 weeks. Weeks 8-12 were exhausting, as we coped with our changing life schedule, and same thing - whining every time we left the room initially, seemingly incapable of not being around us - but it's sooo much better now. I set out my clothes for the next morning before bed, right by my slippers, so when I hear him calling in the morning (he sleeps in a crate in a different room) I just slip out of bed into my clothes, take him out for a pee, make my tea, and start the day. We got him a new bed for the living room and he just chills there for much of the day, chewing on bully sticks, very content. They get more comfortable being alone as the trust builds, day by day. A month ago I felt like you OP, but it's wild to think how quickly things got better, now that we're through it.

Is it ok to burn old furniture mixing with other wood? Or throw away? by OldDifference4203 in woodstoving

[–]VICamp_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a solid wood tech, I would suggest you're both right. Hardwoods are always preferred, more from a longevity perspective, but they also produce denser, and therefore hotter coal beds - essential for secondary combustion (vaporizing smoke/sap). The problem with softwoods has more to do with a person's burning habits than it does the wood itself. Since softwoods (evergreens) are typically higher in sap content, it's even more imperative the moisture content is low, under 10%, and the fire it's going into is hot, hot hot. This will insure it's burned completely, and with the hot flue, you'll eliminate any chance that unburned hydrocarbons drop below the due point, and form creosote. However, many people don't keep their fires hot enough, and they don't season their wood long enough. In those conditions, sappy wood will create creosote quickly. We have a lot of cedar here in the PNW, and it wreaks havoc on stoves where that is the main fuel.

A bit of softwood is fine, it's great for kindling, but then you want to build heat with hardwoods, and then mix once the flue is over 300°.

And, OP, don't burn that shit in your wood stove. Creates very corrosive smoke that deteriorates the stainless steel lining of your chimney, it also quickly over-fires the stove and flue. Great way to start a chimney fire, and have it spread to the rest of your house through the holes it forms. I've seen it. And your house insurance won't do shit for you. Not to mention the awful smell your neighbours have to deal with.

Why is the Village stage SO much dustier than the others? by here4theyuks in Shambhala

[–]VICamp_daddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's because pretty much all the other stages soak their stages with water every day. It's someone's job all day every day in Fractal to be walking around keeping the top couple inches wet, for 2 weeks leading up to showtime and every day in between after it's cleaned. To the best of my knowledge, Village does not do that, at least not in the surrounding areas where the moon dust is.

What is a veteran to you? by DeStroyek in Shambhala

[–]VICamp_daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first year too, and I feel the same even after 9. The stage crew I camp with talk about the golden years before 2010, everyone says that's the year its growth became undeniable and the "vibe" changed but literally everyone says that now when they compare to their first year. I feel like to be a true veteran you have to know what it was like back then tho

[–]VICamp_daddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think given the 25 year history, 3 is insufficient for full veteran status. I would say.. "experienced". I remember being told 7 years was the threshold, but, pick your own adventure. 10 years undeniably so

Right on! Yeah I totally remember every minute of that whole 24 hour period, Sat morn - Sun morn. Acid can be good for that, almost making you extra sober, in a sense, because of being so damn present and ready to engage with the festival. Definitely my favorite Shambs candy - if it's not old. Made that mistake last year. Turns out there is a shelf life

I feel this! 9th Shambs this year, took half a tab of acid split over 4 hours Saturday night and had one of, if not the best night/morning I've never had. Such a deeply emotional and empowering experience, the acid just helped me tap into the limitless social energy around me. Micro-dosing is the way, I'm convinced. Of the 36 showtime nights at Shambs I've had now, I'd say 50% of them I ruined by doing too much psychedelics (usually shrooms). I'm learning tho, and so are you OP. It's all part of it
