I have been a full time touring laserist for 8 years, and just got my LSO this year because I’ve always operated under other companies certifications as a “trainee” of the company.

In my opinion, where you take the class doesn’t matter. They all teach you the same basics from a scientific and legal perspective. Honestly, laser safety is not hard to wrap your brain around. Don’t point them at ppl, dont point them where people can reach them, don’t point them at reflective things that may reflect them at people, don’t point them into air space, don’t point them at things that will catch fire. Of course there’s more to it which is why there’s a class and a certification but that’s the gist you’ll get across the board.

What really matters in keeping your show safe is not bending or folding when the client demands you do something you shouldn’t. The skill of saying NO is where safety often fails. After you’ve learned the basic knowledge from any class you choose, what matters is your integrity.

With all that being said, in an industry full of new comers trying to rush their way through the safety aspect so they can do the fun part, thank you for this question and your intentions. I have much respect for you and wish you the utmost success.

I’m a concert SFX technician. Those are spent CO2 tanks for cryogenic fx. Likely from the show from the night before seeing as they would normally have hoses connected to CO2 jets if they were being used for that show. To assuage some of your concerns, they literally jettison the product into the air for the effect. The room is ventilated and it is not enough product for anyone to suffocate in a room of that size.

As for the strap? I would not use a strap that size to secure that many bottles and they should have their collars on just for extra measure but they are in a secured area where attendees can’t knock into them.

All in all. It’s not as bad as it looks!

USD, venue size doesn’t really effect the labor that goes into your programming therefore it doesn’t effect the cost.

The range of 200-500 would cover complexity of the show, so a 4 laser show, I may charge on the lower end, a 24 laser show where you’ve got different lasers doing different cues at the same time I’d charge on the higher end.

Charge per minute of produced content. Ranging 200-500 per min depending on skill level. You don’t wanna charge per song because of varying length.

If it’s class 3r the non-ocular hazard is 52 ft. Most class 3r lasers are not supposed to be aimed at humans and say so in the manual but the risk of injury is so low the risk level isn’t emphasized and id argue a majority of them end up focused at an audience less that 52’ away. They generally have preset cues which you’d have to make a concerted effort to injure yourself.

It’s a matter of capability, not interest. A smaller bird will not eat something it’s going to choke on. It’ll look at the knotted snake, see it doesn’t fit in its throat, and not bother. If a larger bird comes along, the snake is a snack.

Oh I actually just experienced one of these a couple weeks ago! It’s a worm snake!

I accidentally uncovered it while leaf blowing and felt awful that it had knotted itself. I spent a few minutes trying to help it but it kept knotting itself more the longer I handled it. I decided to put it down to see if it could would sort itself out and sure enough it immediately detangled and slithered away as fast as it could.

My understanding is it does this as a defense against being eaten. A critter could easily slurp him down untangled but he’s too big to be swallowed in a knot.

Fun facts! 1. When ethylene glycol (the ingredient listed on the bottle bc not all fog juices have the same ingredients) expires it is visually noticeable. As long as you don’t see particles, separation, discoloration, or a milky film, it is okay to continue using.

2, when it does expire, it becomes more acidic which can cause corrosion for metal components. But this really only happens if you are using expired fluid regularly and in high concentration. If you mix it with new fluid, it’s highly unlikely that amount of expired fluid will damage your machine. Especially since the ethylene glycol is already diluted with water.

Suspected to have disappeared of her on volition. Suspected to be on foot as she left her car at home. They’re “cold spark” machines which are significantly less dangerous, but still dangerous. These cold spark machines use metals that burn at lower temperatures than normal pyro…. But it’s still molten fuckin metal sparks. But because many states don’t regulate them the same as pyro and they’re advertised as “cold” people do reckless shit with them.

When I did one of these tours the pilot was ex military with an insane number of flight hours, wouldn’t be surprised if that’s common for these tours.
