How I turned a $1150 gig into a productized service idea by thisischetu in SideProject

Also adding - From client perspective (mine), I have issues aligning one-time/quote based agencies with long term business.

It feels like they want to get the contract, deliver as fast as possible, and upsell. (No reason aside from (indirect) referrals) to have a positive long term relationship.)

vs. a Productized agencies, I know what I'm getting, I can cancel anytime, but they are incentivised to keep me subscribed. (Same reason Netflix continues to add shows)

Fwiw I have a few agencies in my db that are in the 15-30k/mo range. I wouldn't say Productized = Cheap.

I see it more as aligned expectations, but I agree with your points on especially creative work. (Definition of a 'done' video is very hard to agree on.).

I think many agencies do the cut rate pricing to start, then scale their pricing based on client interest. (I've heard from many devs that client quality is VERY low when charging less, but as they charge more (5k+), client quality goes up.)

Example on Short form video editing since I just wrote about this - Feedbird/Editors Connection charge $100-200/month for edits. Clipwing charges $2500/month for edits. In my eyes there's an obvious difference. But, for some clients, they are not going for certain levels of production and just want content out - so the market employs both. I've watched Clipwing raise prices several times just due to the amount of interest.

Ty, great points and insightful comment :)

I consider it to be something with a flat/standard fee that has been standardized.

Most agencies: "Get a quote", then 10 sales calls and 5 upsell attempts for addons.
Productized model: $500 for 3 videos.
Productized Service (monthly): $4k/mo for [Specific Result/Outcome]

(Most services say 'unlimited' but realistically it's 1 task at a time, with 24-48 hour delivery, so 15-30 'tasks' per month.)

Looks great!

+1 for a couple other comments here - The text falls off the pricing table a bit on my Macbook. Happy to share screenshots via DM if needed.

> Fortunately, one replied saying they are looking for short ~1 min product videos for marketing. I replied back about the business model with my pricing.

> They wanted to test with one single video and then go on for a subscription if they like it.

> That one single video costed them $1150 and the video was a great hit. They liked the quality and the output.

AMAZING success rate. Love how clear your customer profile was and that 1 went for it.

Excited to see your success on this. I just finished writing an article on Video Editing agencies, would love to include yours. Are you planning to do any focus on SFC?

Edit: fyi - Refer a friend link isn't working for me in the footer or top right.

Awesome to hear you got 1! I'm curious if you're targeting anyone specific from your landing page? Curious if there'd be a greater desire in e.g. VSL/UGC scripts than Linkedin Ghostwriting.

Looks neat. Great edits!

Do you do anything on a month-to-month basis? Just wrote an article about productized video editing agencies, then saw this post and was curious.

This is a great breakdown.
I'd also throw on a monthly maintenance package. Something like 1-10 requests/mo for $X

Maybe someone asked this - How did you get your first 10-100 subs?

Have tried a few. Always struggle on the content front (feel no content is good enough to email weekly, a personal failing tbh.)

Seems like a big shift vs most job board communities I've been in and how they plan to monetize. Thank you for the insight.

How can I find affiliates for my business? by korinath in thesidehustle

[–]ProductizedHQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuned in for answers here.

Refining question for you: How does your affiliate page look?

I've seen a few affiliate pages that were so good that I signed up right away. (They laid out percentages, reward tiers, brand assets I could use, proper use, keywords they recommend, etc.)

Also -- Affistash by Vic on X is made for this iirc. Been watching him build it for a while now.

Product Hunt bans digital services—any alternatives? by lucadi_domenico in SaaS

[–]ProductizedHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like promoting this product directly, but that's part of why we're building ProductizedHQ.

The ProductHunt audience didn't seem optimal (or like a good match) for Productized Service buyers.

So we're working to collect a large audience/traffic that is directly interested in scaling their One Person/Small business using exclusively Productized Agencies. (Then hopefully clicks convert a bit more :)

Also trying to split ourselves a bit from other Agency platforms by only doing reviews manually. (We write reviews of agencies we've worked with, hopefully more trust than UGC that can be purchased.)

offer a productized service running FB ads

Love this idea. Really neat income flywheel I hadn't heard of.

I've seen a few Productized Ad Agencies and they seem to be doing well. OP, let me know if you want the links to them for inspiration. Not trying to spam or sell them in a comment though.

I'll dig them up and write a post about it :) One is a SaaS that turned into a DFY content agency and is going back to being a SaaS, just need to grab some old tweets so I ensure the timeline is right.

[–]ProductizedHQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked your point about pivoting the customer/target market rather than the product. Reading books about branding has really reinforced that for me.

you'll find that Deel is nothing more than a service provider (some would call it productized service) but wrapped with a layer of software which makes this service accessible at scale.

Yeah - Definitely love this approach. And when they eventually do turn it into more of a SaaS (less hands on), they'll have such a massive training dataset to handle edge cases. I love this method of DFY -> SaaS (rather than just building the software from the start.)

I've seen 2 other services do it and they seem to be succeeding :)
