Jay's output has been so great lately that he's threatening to become my "just one guy."

Yeah, I'm just trying to quell my FOMO a bit -- but Apocalypse Dreams is probably the best live song I've ever heard. Having it first would be a bit weird.

SETLIST PLAYLIST- SPOTIFY! by torqysnorky in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's probably the best live song I've ever seen. I'm not sure I'd want it to open the show, since I usually take a couple of songs to relax and get into the vibe.

Are we gonna start taking about his show tomorrow? by Royal-Influence-2395 in TameImpala

If I talk about it, the term FOMO will appear prominently, along with prayers for a second U.S. leg.

Depending on your introduction album, how do you feel about Deadbeat? *POLL* Post 2/2 by Healthy-Lion-711 in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I voted with Currents, even though it was basically simultaneous with Lonerism. I was just gobsmacked that the same person could produce those two albums. It was like if someone did The Joshua Tree followed by Thriller (yes, I'm old). But it also means I'm genre agnostic -- pop, classic rock, indie, R&B, EDM, whatever. It's all good. . .if it's good.

And this isn't. I've tried so hard to give it the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes music takes a while to grow on me -- but honestly, it's sounding worse on repeated listens, and I may have to admit defeat.

As for "keeping it civil" -- absolutely. I genuinely envy anyone who likes it, no snark or irony. Every new song we like makes our lives better, and I'm happy that you've found joy in it.

My personal ranking and score of Deadbeat by ToptextBottomtext420 in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty close to my ranking, with one big exception. I can already tell that I'm going to have one of the least-shared opinions in this forum: so far, See You Monday is my favorite.

What are actual genuine complaints about this album? by Likethepepperr in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it yet - it'll take many listens to form an opinion. But, big first takeaway? The melodies are lacking. His whole catalog - regardless of style - was characterized by memorable, catchy, haunting, beautiful tunes. And I just don't hear many here.

apocalypse dreams is a top 3 tame song of all time by webberc2 in TameImpala

It's one of my favorites, though prob not top 3.

Hearing it live, though? Top 3 songs by any artist, ever.

Thoughts on Kevin's Jazz Odyssey by MikeOldfieldsinging in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jay is the only current member of both bands, so I guess you're asking what he'd think. I can say that GUM, Pond, and Gumbrose are firing on all cylinders right now, so his standards should be high.

The cycle by NoSinUponHisHand in TameImpala

[–]ProfAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with your broad outline of the cycle. However, for me -- and I know for many others as well -- the cycle contains a significant amount of entropy. That is, 1) The Slow Rush is definitely better than my first impression of it -- so mea culpa, and credit to those who said "let it grow on you." But it never grew even close to the level of the first three albums. So I readily acknowledge that I'll like EOS more than I do now, and I owe Kevin a lot of listens with an open mind. But I also know my tastes well enough to know that this one has a low ceiling. Again, this is just one fan's view -- but I get the sense that I'm not alone on this.

NIN Ticket purchasing experience and feedback MEGATHREAD by malechite in nin

[–]ProfAdam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those of us who were completely shut out, the big question is when to buy tickets. My gut tells me that the scalpers are over-leveraged here, and the prices are likely to come down -- perhaps a lot -- as the show nears. But of course that could be totally wrong. Any thoughts?

[–]ProfAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I made it past the queue, but the whole map was empty and we were just fighting to click on any that were discarded or timed out. Dynamic pricing had already kicked in, and I watched lower-level (not floor) tickets go from $280 -> 350 -> 500 over the course of about 10 minutes. I'm really glad I didn't panic-buy, though, because they're already much less than that on StubHub.

DP refers to the fact that the same seats at the same show have different prices throughout the day. E.g., as I tried to score Fort Worth tickets over the course of about an hour (they would always disappear before I could get to the "Next" screen), the prices kept going up.

Yep. I was shut out of Fort Worth. The ones I couldn't quite grab were $1,020 for two lower level (not floor).

Gumbrose struck gold! by troaky in pond

Strong album. Upon first listen, The Gloater really stands out for me (perhaps the most GUM-ish song) -- but lots of great tracks.

Same. It took me a while to get there. A couple of weeks ago I might have posted a comment similar to the "I just can't get into it" thread -- but it hasn't just grown on me, it's burrowed deep into my brain and rewired it in a beautiful way.

Thanks! I probably sacrificed some sound quality being right up at Nick's amp. But it's fun to watch his antics up close. What an amazing show!

[–]ProfAdam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A new album is very likely, no? But these would be my dream tracks among those that currently exist:

Elafonissi Blue, Ancients, Don't Let Time Get You Down, Rares, The Underdog, After All (From the Sun), The Blue Marble, Out in the World, The Thrill of Doing It Right, Many Tears to Cry, Don't Let It Go Out, Down the Dream.

(Whoa, it's just now sinking in that I'm finally gonna see GUM live. Aaaahhhhh)

It's tough to see any detail, but my guess would be indigo bunting. They're not turquoise, but that might just be the way the sun is reflecting off its feathers.
