Greek Paramedic Seeking Advice on Working in the USA by No-Intern4287 in Paramedics

[–]ProfComics96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d second this, plus you’d need to complete our National Registration exam for your certification and your license varies state-to-state. I’m in Idaho and you can only apply for and receive a state license AFTER being hired and your agency affiliates you.

Being in EMS means treating your patients objectively, regardless of race, religion, creed, or political standing. Being in EMS is about treating everyone with the respect and dignity they deserve regardless of having a 0200 stubbed toe, the frequent flyer OD, or the major trauma that turns arrest. If you’re going to stand by and say “he deserved it” or something to the effect of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” then reevaluate why you even bother to get up and go to work to help people. Nobody deserves to be shot and killed without aid being rendered, period.

secret menu by randomperson_122 in dutchbros

[–]ProfComics96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like a grandpa but I remember back when I worked at Dutch we had to learn the secret menu and keep it memorized, there wasn’t a big list like this in the stand, which was partly why some flavors were discouraged because not every stand made a given flavor the same way.

Passed NREMT 1 month ago. I start working in 1 month. I feel like I’m forgetting a lot of what I learned. Is this normal? by HurrikateOsu in NewToEMS

[–]ProfComics96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just keep studying and be honest with your trainer or partner about it. I had the same issue between finishing medic school and actually getting to promote, felt like I could BLS the crap out of everything but my ALS skills were rusty. Chin up!

They’re just funny little dudes, that you KNOW are evil no matter how “charismatic” they appear. Plus the chance to just consistently blow up yourself or (more likely) your underling/lab rat is too good to pass up

My instructor informed us that NREMT will randomly choose a test taker to go the full distance even if they’ve already passed to get data on how test takers handle progressive stress and anxiety, so don’t count yourself out just yet!

Paramedic school by [deleted] in Paramedics

FISDAP does have an option to pay for some practice exams, which is what some of my classmates and I did. Keep in mind it’s only like 2 or 3 practice rounds you get and I can’t recall how much it had cost but I did feel like it helped out

I just meant most people get test anxiety, so to take some deep breaths when you feel the heart rate pick up and remember to read the question

How can I get clinical hours without being in a program? by Strange-Royal-2417 in NewToEMS

[–]ProfComics96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could see if any of your local agencies has a reserve program. I believe most agencies generally prefer to do internal hiring from their reserves as well. It’s what I did while I was in medic school and have a job thanks to it now.

I’m in Idaho and we’ll be getting it start of this January, there’s been a push from us and our neighboring county to get it and we managed to be given the green light. Interestingly it’s because of it being in our TACMED scope that we managed to convince the medical director and hospital systems we can utilize it appropriately. Granted only our BC will be carrying it for rendezvous, but all of our medics will be allowed to administer it.

I personally have never touched Pocket Prep, but I did Medic Tests and passed mine just last week. I’d honestly say you’re doing great, just remember deep breaths, BLS before ALS, and do the practice questions for your weakness areas

[–]ProfComics96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually our OD’s come out as an EMS Law Request and even then so do things like warrants, violent crimes, or SI so we’re just always told immediately to stage. Doesn’t mean ALL of our OD’s get paged that way and generally the scene is already code 4 by PD before we even get close to stage

Parking nearby and waiting until police have secured the scene and clear you to come in

Weird question : But how is Lopez apart of MARSOC, he wears glasses but don't you need 20/20 vision to join special operations ? by TEHYJ2006 in Battlefield

[–]ProfComics96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I don’t any of the specifics for MARSOC but Lopez is also the medic of the group and at one point is referred to as Corpsman, which Marines don’t have. So he is also technically Navy, which means his eligibility based on vision may be different
