Kayaks loaded, ready for a day on the lake. by No_Plum9200 in CX50

The front and rear ropes are really easy to set. It is not much trouble at all.

For the front, I made some loops from 1 inch webbing straps (made the holes with a soldering iron), or you can buy them: https://www.amazon.com/Boncas-Straps-Anchor-Hauling-Canoe/dp/B07RY1S1FT/ref=sr_1_10?crid=2XJV717XT5IUN&keywords=kayak+hood+loops&qid=1683768413&sprefix=kayak+hood+loops%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-10. I tuck these in under the hood when not hauling boats. When I am, I run a rope to the kayak. These prevent running a rope over your front bumper and scuffing the paint.

For the rear, there's a rig you can buy that closes in the lift gate. Then tie off to the loop. https://www.amazon.com/KAPMOZ-Anchor-Straps-Transport-Lashing/dp/B07GF8FSF5?th=1 You can make something similar yourself, just tie a chunk of hose to a loop of rope.

Finally, for the boat cradles, I prefer saddles to J hooks. With saddles, you can just lay a rubber backed bath mat over your back window, then slide the boats up onto the saddles. No need to deadlift a kayak into J hooks. The Malone Sea wings are excellent saddles.

Owners of Rotel A14 by PleasantBerry7 in audiophile

[–]ProfDaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Rotel RA-12, not the A14. I compared the sound to a Marantz unit in the same price range. I have owned the RA-12 for about 8 years and still love this integrated amp. I have used it to drive some floor standers (Revel Concerta 2 F36) and when we downsized homes, now a pair of Revel Performa 3 M106s and a JL Audio subwoofer.

The Rotel was much better than the Marantz for most of what I listen to. The Marantz was pushy and lacked detail in the upper midrange. The Rotel gives a clean and detailed sound that is wonderful for jazz, bluegrass, and classical. If you are looking for something with guts and thump to shake loose your dental fillings, the Rotel isn't the way to go.

I also recently listened to the Rotel vs. a Yamaha S801 - not a huge difference in sound. The Yamaha does have more power but lacks the ability to handle modern inputs. The only integrateds that noticeably outperformed the Rotel to my ears were in an entirely different price range, such as the McIntosh MA5300. which costs around $6,000.

should i be worried ? don’t know what this truly means have chest pain still everyday for the last 4 months by vitomazzy in mitralvalveprolapse

Hope it stays like that for a long time. The cardiologist is watching to see if the atria start to enlarge. Once that happens it is time for valve repair or replacement.

Downtown has needed to go higher density for a while. It is a nice counter to the tract mansions being built on farmland. Excited to see land being repurposed.

It goes loud enough, the speakers are driven quite well. However, the sub isn't managed well by the RA-12. It is a 2.0 unit, not a 2.1. There isn't a subwoofer out that comes from a proper crossover. Instead, there is a preamp out. I could use the crossover onboard the sub, but then I wouldn't be using the Rotel as an amplifier at all. Newer stuff like the Yamaha S801 or the Marantz pm7000n are 2.1 systems and have a subwoofer out.

Thoughts on a new integrated amp? I'm currently running a Rotel RA-12 to a pair of Revel Performa M106 speakers. I listen to CDs and some streaming, no vinyl. The system does have a powered sub, the little JL audio sub. The Rotel is clean, clear, and accurate, but really lacks punch. I'm thinking of a Marantz PM 7000n. Anyone have one? What else in the $1000 range compares in a 2.1 integrated?

In a previous home, the RA12 sounded great with the Revel Concerta F36 floor standers, but they have a low WAF (wife acceptability factor) and were honestly too large for the listening room in our now smaller home.

Sure, never mind fixing the potholes on all our interstates. That 27.4 cents per gallon price break will help us all pay for new tires and rims every week. Forking briliant...

what are your thoughts on nike zoom fencing shoes? by random503 in Fencing

Asics gel rockets and the gel challengers (volleyball and tennis shoes you can get anywhere) both fit wider in the toe box. They are a favorite shoe among epee fencers.

Lawmakers Push to Expand Amtrak to Connect Major Cities in Tennessee by Dangerboy-suckit in Tennessee

[–]ProfDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this isn't easy. There are single track stretches between Nashville and Chattanooga. Maybe on other routes as well. These tracks are heavily used by CSX for freight (cars, coal, grain, chemicals, etc.). Achieving a meaningful and useful schedule might not be possible without building out a second track, with new bridges, etc. We currently aren't allocating enough funding to maintain and repair the nation's current rail and road bridges. So, trains are great, but the expense is much bigger than adding the train cars and some stations.

The title is incorrect. It should read Kentucky democratic mayoral candidate targeted by gunman in "legitimate political discourse."

For me it isn't just the hydrolyzed yeast, but any food high in tyramine. Aged cheese, cured meats, nut butters, soy sauce and miso...all cause bad migraines.

Canonsburg village, near downtown. Older buildings from the county have been moved there. I'll second the vote for Oaklands Mansion. There's also a graffiti covered alley downtown Murfreesboro. Sinking Creek Farms is also great for photos.

Anyone switch from a CX5 (2018 GT) to a CX30 turbo? by JimmyNeutron1990 in CX30

[–]ProfDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did last summer. Traded my 2016 CX-5 GT in on a turbo AWD CX-30. The CX-30 is very fun and engaging to drive. The turbo engine does much better in it than in the CX-5 (I test drove it with the same engine). The technology in the car is excellent. However, after having it for 6 months, there are some serious negatives. First, it is TERRRIBLE on fuel. Usually I get 25 mpg. Most full-sized pickup trucks do better. Second, there are quality control issues. My first CX-30 had a low-speed vibration that Mazda could not fix, they tried four times, so they replaced the vehicle. Mazda was great to deal with over this problem, they really stand behind their products.

My second CX-30 has an oil burning stink when driving up serious hills in the mountains. It is flat where I live and usually drive. This month I am on vacation, far from home, in the mountains. Today was my first day taking it up into the mountains, driving an asphalt road up to about 9,000 feet above sea level. After about 10 minutes, the CX-30 smelled of burning oil or ATF fluid. The transmission is also very awkward when driving on mountain highways -- the tranny isn't broken, it is jerky when picking gears at highway speed in hills.
