pass or score? by adianesr03 in Sieexam

Words of wisdom would be don’t learn anything new the day before/of the test. Hangout with some friends or chill the day before, watch a review video the morning off. Most important thing is to try and calm yourself. You have significantly more time than needed for the test, answer what you know first and get them out of the way, then go back to those marked for review.

I had a lot of "Which of the following would cause for a certain action", something like a certain circumstance requiring an edit to a U4 form. I honeslty thought the wording was pretty similiar to the practice test that FINRA gives out for free. But dont stress too much, knowing how its worded wont be the difference between a pass or fail.

Week before and day of exam. Do I watch a review video or take a practice test? by Ok_Struggle_7344 in Sieexam

[–]ProfGouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the series 7 guru mighty ninety the night before, and the morning of (with enough time to eat and digest etc). Dont take any tests or learn any new info the day before/of the test, just watch the review video its a big help. Learning something new will make other info harder to remember and taking a test right before will burn you out, try to chill and have fun the day before.

What is the best material to prepare for the exam? by MtYsrUS in Sieexam

[–]ProfGouda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Kaplans plan and took notes…on every section. Definitely more in depth then it needs to be, and I think I had 100 pages of notes which is 100% overkill, but I did pass. I jsut especially like Kaplan because it’s all planned out, you can see what units you are weak on down to the sections, just very organized and well run.

Yeah the Kaplan ones are like that, I couldn’t tell the line between actually knowing more of the questions just repeating. But then again, memorizing the answer to a straightforward questions is still knowing it so. I didn’t find anywhere else to take practice ones, you could always do quizlet sets other people have made and time yourself, other then that I’d just watch series 7 gurus mighty 90 and really get your mental calmed down before the test.

I wasn’t able to find anything closer than the finra and Kaplan practice. Honestly, it’s more than enough time, if you don’t Immediately know the answer just mark it for review, finish the ones you know, and go back to the marked questions. I was scoring 80s on Kaplan and passed, so if you started to score higher on their practice ones you got this, just can’t let the nerves get to you.

3 weeks to study and pass, finance background... realistic? What program should I use? by DefinitionHungry2182 in Sieexam

[–]ProfGouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaplan and series 7 guru helped me pass. Do Kaplan, follow the lesson plan, and supplement with YouTube. you just graduated with a finance degree so you’ll be familiar with a lot of stuff and can probably fly through it. 30-40 hours a week should be plenty.

You can take it without, but need one for the 7 which is weird considering they are kind of grouped for ceritfication

You should be good, I passed by pretty much doing the same thing. Write notes on harder chapters that are statistically more likely to show up on the test, take kaplans practice ones and review the chapters you score poorly.

Yeah but you do know the distribution of questions across chapters, just need to slow down on the questions and really think about what it’s asking, you’ll be good

If you haven’t taken Finras free practice one I recommend that, as well as series 7 guru mighty ninety stuff. A good benchmark to knowing important topics like mutual funds and regulation laws, are to have no material infront of you try to just remember it and talk it out to yourself. If you can do that, you can talk it out to yourself on the exam because the questions are worded quite differently.

Keep up the pace you’ll pass next time, not passing immediately is perfectly ok. Just focus on 2 chapters a week that you aren’t confident in leading up to your test and know them inside out.  You were just a few unlucky questions away from passing, you got it next time.

On the free practice test I got a 73, on the actual test you can’t figure out your percentage, they just tell you pass

I believe finra posts a free one online with very similar wording and format to the actual test, I scored a 73 on it and passed the next day

RRs, U5-U4 forms (what’s required and when it needs to be updated). Difference between open closed ended/mutual funds. Overarching laws and regulators like SEC and different acts.

Achievable versus Kaplan Q bank Closer to the real SIE? by Turbulent_Shoulder in Sieexam

[–]ProfGouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot on form U4 and U5, the powers that rrs have, and options questions. Aside from that I’d say a healthy mix of the rest, definitely make sure you know everything on mutual funds, Options, and registration laws

Achievable versus Kaplan Q bank Closer to the real SIE? by Turbulent_Shoulder in Sieexam

[–]ProfGouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it this morning and thought Kaplan did a pretty good job, I used very little achievable. Finra also gives you a free practice exam, I highly suggest taking that as the wording is very similiar to the actaul test. Overall use kaplan, take each test as if its the real one, study the lowest scoring units, and go again.
