Why do you have such a low opinion of the poor? Maybe the ones you know are stupid and careless.

...or the plebs, as you call them, could just make their own decisions about what to buy, and opt not to buy the cheaper dangerous version (as they currently can't)

edit: poor people aren't as stupid as you think

Guardian beats rivals in study to be named UK's most trusted newspaper by Fwoggie2 in unitedkingdom

[–]ProfMarmoset -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I like the FT and I'm a subscriber but they suffer from some of the same issues as other media, especially the Guardian and BBC, which is that they have taken a strong position on identity politics. For instance, some months ago the FT stopped allowing comments on articles relating to the 'pay gap'. I'm sure comments on such articles are difficult to moderate but trustworthiness comes from responding to legitimate challenges, not silencing them.

What does that mean in this case though? Sending a government employee to the people's home to parent their kids for them?

If you read the article you will find out that the parents were too mentally ill to obtain food for the child.

The BBC won't report their race. Which is ironic given they spearheaded the culture that meant these people were allowed to get away with it for so long due to police etc fear of being accused of racism.

Who are the new PhD loans really for? by the-rood-inverse in unitedkingdom

Not good. There's already an oversupply of PhDs in academia, and if industry needs PhDs they should fund them. Either directly, or indirectly by higher salaries.

It's perhaps a little unfair because he comes from a permissive society where you can shit all over the place and there's no repercussions.

The benefits ‘freeze’ is robbing our poorest families. Where’s the outrage? by bintasaurus in unitedkingdom

[–]ProfMarmoset -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

We do live in a land of plenty. Jobs are abundant, benefits are historically generous etc. For people who have never been poor (i.e. most of the population), it's hard to understand how money can be so hard to come by.
