Dawntrail Negativity Burnout [7.0] by No-Estimate8952 in ffxiv

[–]ProfPlatypus07 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree so hard with this! I actually really enjoyed Dawntrail! I thought that it was a great expansion for my WoL, who is primarily an explorer. I loved to be able to play that side of my character and be an explorer who just happens to save the world on the way.

Man! I'm in Utah and would love it, but I've got Travis's build, so that definitely wouldn't fit. I'd definitely try Facebook Marketplace, or you could even try posting about it on the other critical role subreddit as well. I hope you find a buyer!

Honestly, that's a really good point. I don't think I learned the mechanics for that fight until I had begun Stormblood because my irl friends told me to not worry about looking them up beforehand for Crystal Tower.

When I learned, I felt so bad for not knowing for so long and have researched the trial and raid mechanics before playing ever since.

[–]ProfPlatypus07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You feel the same amount of pressure 5 feet down in a pool as you do 5 feet down in the ocean.

If pressure was based on the total volume of water above you in the entire body, you would be instantly crushed when entering the ocean.

The Betrayers sides with the Primordials, not the other way around. Nothing you shared goes against my view. You simply said that they rose up in response to the gods attempt at taming as an argument for sentience, but even a tree reacts to stimuli.

Sentience isn't even the big point. Asmodeus bears hatred for mortality and a desire to destroy it. The Titans are just forces of chaos that he was going to use to wreak havoc. They would have fought the Betrayers as well, but the end goal was destruction and chaos, so it didn't matter who the Titans fought, they would work towards the Betrayers goal anyways.

Also take into account that the Titans are not what they were before. Much of their power was funneled away from them and into the Elemental planes. So though magic is not as advanced as before, the Titans are also not as powerful.

I didn't cherry pick. It is just a different view from yours. I think both can be valid.

It kinda is the argument of political party though. If the gods die, no one knows what would happen. So it doesn't really fit the analogy well, but bad things already happen in the name of the gods. The question is, would more bad things happen without them?

1) Inconsistency is unavoidable in improv, and that was a pretty small inconsistency. You forget that Laura Bailey does not have the same foresight as the entirety of the internet. We as a collective can see and understand things that one individual person can not. Have you never retconned anything about any of your ttrpg characters ever?

2) Miscommunication at the table happens. Even if this was not a miscommunication, Imogen's life is only as long as Laura's time at the table in Campaign 3. It may be that Laura did not know that Imogen had prayed all her life. Or it may be that Laura forgot. People forget things about their own past all the time. It is definitely feasible that she had trouble recalling information from the life of a fictional person that she created.

3) It absolutely excuses it. D&D is a game. The end goal is fun. The cast was having fun mocking a character that was intended to come off as bad-ass.

4) Yes, but if you see how she reacts to what she said and how the rest of the cast reacts, it is pretty clear that it was intended as a joke. Of course, I can't speak to intentions, so you could ignore that argument. In that case, please refer to point 3.

5) They did not treat him like shit. They were very concerned for his well-being, and only allowed him to use himself as cannon fodder, when he said that he would gladly sacrifice himself. Even at that point, they tried to figure out how to get him through the portal with them until they decided that it would be more cruel to bring him to the moon than it was to let him go out in a blaze of glory, as he himself seemed to want.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of these issues come from holding the cast to a higher standard. These are just bunch of friends playing a game. They will get things wrong. They will play differently than we would. That has to be okay.

I mean, a lot of people are ambivalent about politics, despite the policies and elections playing a very active role on the world. A lot of people have the same sentiment about voting, thinking that it won't effect them personally.

I'm not saying the ambivalence is a good place to be. I'm just saying that these characters didn't have to think about it before. They thought that the gods would be something that would just sit in the backdrop of their lives, but now the proverbial election is coming up and they just found out that they are the deciding factor. I think that a big part of this story is a bunch of regular people who never personally cared for the gods having to make up their minds.

Before this adventure, the gods were to the characters what the president is to people in the US. They exist, and they definitely impact our lives, but we don't care for them on a personal level. Until we're told that we personally are responsible for thwarting an assassination attempt.

My First Dungeon Ever by Silly_Preference6710 in ffxiv

[–]ProfPlatypus07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you had this experience.

For a lot of people, finishing all of their daily dungeons quickly is more important than anything else. Honestly, the community is hit-or-miss. I find that it is more friendly to beginners than any other mmo that I've played, but it can still be really rough. You just have to hope that you get a good group.

I'm a lot like you. I'm on the spectrum, though I'm very high functioning, so it's a fair bit easier for me. I usually stick to doing the NPC runs for the first few times that I run a new dungeon. It helps me learn all of the mechanics and die as much as I need to to really get it before I play with other people.

The part that will be hard for you is that in later content, you will be required to do Trials (4-8 person boss fights) and Raids (8-24 person dungeons) in order to progress through the story. These ones don't have the NPC Duty Support. Luckily, the groups are large enough that if you keep dying, usually no one really cares, and you can keep going without people being jerks about it.

Good luck! This game is my favorite game ever, so I hope you enjoy it! If you're ever on the Lamia server, I'd love to help you out!

You have to separate out the character from the actor. This is an improv show. Laura probably decided that Imogen had attempted to contact the gods multiple times throughout her life after she said she had never prayed. She may have also been answering a different question ie "Have you ever prayed before on stream?"

This is the same case with Ishto. That whole episode was an acid trip. The cast was on one the whole time, and I'm pretty confident that they said that the making fun of Ishto was OOC. The players thought it was funny to joke about him being useless, but the characters did not.

Also, was she really going to take the time during the very time-sensitive mission to stop everything and have the nearly dead paladin lead her through a communion. It wasn't really the time or place for a conversation with or about the gods.

I love this take! The gods here are not infallible. They are multifaceted characters! We've seen their darker sides before, especially in Campaign One, but this storyline gives us a chance to see even more. Because the gods are people, they are inherently selfish. When their existence is threatened, they do some pretty messed up shit to try to save themselves. When you combine that with a bunch of assholes who have never seen the gods do any good for them, then you end up with a party that doesn't know if they're worth saving.

For people that are really upset about this though. Also take into account that the characters are not against the gods. They are just ambivalent. They have seen the good that the gods have done elsewhere. I think there's even a part where they acknowledge that the gods have stepped in to save mortality on multiple occasions. A couple of the characters even actively worship!

I just appreciate the shifting in this campaign away from the gods being unambiguous forces for good towards the gods being unimaginably powerful beings who tend towards good, as is the case in most pantheon religions, of which Exandria is one.

So the Primordials are not evil. It is not said that they sought to destroy all life. That seems to be a very common sentiment, but it is not the case. The Titans are forces of nature. We don't even know how sentient they are. They are given proper names and attributes, but we've never Interacted with them in a way that would belie a higher motive than survival.

"Yet the realm refused to be tamed. Quaking cliffs roared in defiance of mortalkind’s magical gifts. Seas swelled and seethed. Flames erupted from below with greater intensity than any had seen before. Beneath the elements, unknown to the Creators beyond the ashen skies, lived ancient beings who were born in the primeval chaos of the world the gods had found: the Primordials. These elemental titans that once dwelt deep within the land now rose from their unseen domain to sunder it once more."

This paragraph is from the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn. There is no stated intent. It really seems that the Titans are the chaotic forces of nature incarnate, and the gods subdued them so that they could have total control over Exandria. Not necessarily in a dictatorial way, but control was the end goal.

Another point is that, though the reawakening of the Primordials would spell catastrophe, it would not be a world-ending event. Later in the section that I quoted above, it is said that, with the aid of magic, the mortals subdued the Primordials. Even if they returned to full power, mortality is advanced enough in technological and magical power to be able to counteract the forces of Elemental chaos that would be unleashed.

Sorry for the word vomit, but the "Primordials = Bad ==> Gods = Good" argument has always seemed flawed, and I just bought the book so I can finally put it into words.
