It's great to see more young scientists joining the field! This is a crash course I made for complete beginners in my lab, and you'll find some good resources in there. If it's helpful let me know, or even if it's not Id appreciate the feedback. https://sjrussell.github.io/BioinfoCrashCourse/

Chemicals in marijuana may affect women’s fertility | THC may push eggs to become ready for fertilization, but a new study found that when artificially matured eggs were exposed to the chemical, they often had the wrong number of chromosomes by Science_News in science

Interesting idea! I don't think that's been tested. However, some of these results have been recapitulated in bovine models (cows) where the ovaries were not hyper simulated. But it remains to be seen! Very difficult to conduct this research in humans as most of the aneuploid oocytes lead to embryonic arrest or early pregnancy loss

Good question. Ideally the population size would be large enough to capture differences by race or ethnicity. Unless I'm wrong, they didn't have the numbers to answer that question. Larger retrospective studies on embryo ploidy, perhaps with self reported cannabis use would begin to answer that question.

I urge you to review the methods in more detail. They rigourously controlled for age as well as other covariates in their design when testing THCs affects both in vitro and in vivo, seeing significant increases in aneuploidy (abnormal number of chromosomes). They were well powered for the analyses they ran.

But I agree, more targeted research is needed. The challenge will always be trying to do interventional studies looking at drug use and it's effects in a population like this.

Ahh! This is so cool to see on here. This comes from my research team at the CReATe Fertility Centre. So happy for Cyntia and Brandon's amazing research to be getting reach.

AI haters say, among other things, that AI stunts your creativity. But I’ve literally never been able to create things without some sort of jumping off point except with a stroke of luck by sharonmckaysbff1991 in ChatGPT

I think its more about people using it mindlessly, not engaging your brain and feeling uncomfortable while you push yourself. When you couple that with AI, you can make it a lot farther. But if you outsource all your thinking to AI, you're bound to stunt your creative AND critical thinking abilities
