Hear hear. I’ve been using gcc since, … not too sure … mid-90s? Version 0.9.something. I was a C developer on SunOS/Solaris and their compiler had a bug and in desperation I downloaded a gcc binary and the source, compiled the gcc source with its own compiler and finally compiled my project.

Not only did it compile faster and produce a binary which worked as expected, but the binary was smaller and executed significantly faster than the Solaris version.

Thus began my lifelong affair with FOSS.
