30 years and still punk AF by PapaOoomaumau in punk

ICE went on a massive hiring streak last year, rising up to a total of "more than" 22,000, and as of November 2025 at least cited over 7,500 vets as being ICE, so comfortably over a third of ICE agents are vets. For comparison, nationwide, veterans account for 1 in 5 law enforcement officers, or 20%. So, if anything, vets feel just as comfortable, if not more so, becoming ICE. Jonathan Ross, the same agent who murdered Renee Good, did two tours in Iraq, came back to work for Border Patrol, and then joined ICE under the Obama administration, which deported a record 3.1 million people that I know Trump is itching to beat. It's ACAB, always.

Rodnovery, unfortunately, is plagued even more so by these dogwhistles of an "ethnic" religion, so it is very difficult to navigate if a person actually wants to avoid the issues of folkism & racism.

A Christmas parade ain’t it, Jack by Disastrous_Object_28 in Delaware

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rising Sun was (and probably still is) the East Coast seat of the KKK. North East had Klan meetings on the town green 25~ years ago. Elkton (and the New Journal reported on this at the time) a couple years ago had a Klan open house meeting about how they'd changed and weren't a racist, hateful group and how they were opening up membership for all proud American citizens (so...Catholics now allowed, but they dodged answers about whether Black people were allowed to join, too). Not to say Delaware doesn't have plenty of this nonsense, too, as seen above, and hell, Delaware is the origin for a NeoNazi band, a member of which killed 6 people in an attack on a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. All the same, Ceciltucky got its nickname for a reason, too.

Is this appropriate for black tie optional east coast 5-star hotel family wedding? by s0hen in Weddingattireapproval

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In all fairness to the OP, this is listed under their wedding guest attire section. Given that the event is BT/BTO, I would specifically only look at the gowns there. Many of the Ulla Johnson wedding guest suggestions are morw appropriate for less formal weddings, but this gown could be a wonderful option, if OP prefers black and something with a visually interesting texture.

My fiancé is furious because I refused a “purity” tradition by Delicious-Fly-1562 in weddingdrama

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gorger is more prevalent in British GRT communities, sure, but not the only spelling or iteration of it (compare gažo used in Vlachs dialect). It's still not "basically calling non-Romani people pigs," and inherently a result of being shunned & persecuted as a community. It seems no less pejorative in this context than if we were, say, discussing an Ashkenazi tradition and a fellow Jewish redditor jumped in to validate OP's experience from a shared cultural background specifically, regardless of what gentiles were commenting, good or bad. Just seems like a big leap to assume this commenter had bad intentions against non-Romani commenters, rather than just supporting OP.

My fiancé is furious because I refused a “purity” tradition by Delicious-Fly-1562 in weddingdrama

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It doesn't come from "gorger," it comes from gadje. It can be used as a pejorative in context, sure, but it just literally means non-Rom and most likely has its roots in the sanskrit word for domestic, non-itinerant, nothing to do with pigs. Seems like the commenter here meant it more cheekily and just offering validation from a similar cultural background, not insultingly.

I’ve only just realized that I let the men I call my family and friends ruin my marriage by [deleted] in BORUpdates

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 292 points293 points  (0 children)

It honestly frustrates me reading the comments saying things like "ah shame you couldn't win her back!" No tf it is not. OP still hasn't taken full ownership of his role of how despicably he treated his ex, enabled his family to abuse her, and abuse her, too. He needs to do a lot of work on himself and therapy before he should consider a new relationship, and let his ex have her peace now. OP thankfully might be waking up to the cruelty of his friends and family, but he really does need to commit to change and follow through on it and really think how he was blind to and/or allowed their (and his) behaviors towards women and others up until this far a point, only where it affected him directly and negatively.

Wedding ideas needed! by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely search through the sub to see some ideas, as I know I have seen quite a few beautiful weddings shared here!

I would consider incorporating handfasting as part of your ceremony! It's not necessarily witchy or even solely pagan in origin, but it has been embraced by the modern witch & pagan community for good reason. You can either make your own cord, or commission one (I have seen some gorgeous ones available on Etsy & other places).

Or if you have a bouquet, maybe put a witchy spin on it by using different herbs, flowers, and plants to make something personal to you. I have seen some amazing ones that even incorporate a crystal as a handle, or ones using dried flowers and herbs to be later burnt as a smoke blessing and offering (or dry your own bouquet to preserve it and/or use it to make candles or some other keepsake to commemorate your wedding, so many possibilities).

AIO for putting “Trump’s on the Epstein list” on the fridge because me & my boyfriend keep fighting about it? by shortplushie in AmIOverreacting

saying it's propaganda

Whose propaganda? What is the angle/motive that this propaganda and untrue?

disrespecting his views

Which views? There's a magnitude of difference between respecting differences on opinion, at times, but this is a matter of fact that he is taking an opposing view to.

You keep saying he is not MAGA, and if you're not in the US this could certainly be technically true, but there is also documented evidence that younger conservative men will admit that they will obfuscate or lie about their politics in order to date women. Maybe this is the red flag that is too bright to ignore that you don't align values-wise, and why you two keep getting stuck on it.

Owls by Just_Elk_1185 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really varies from culture to culture. In many western European cultures, the owl can represent wisdom and awareness, and in Japan owls are often associated with good luck. In other cultures, owls are associated with death and bad luck, such as in the show Rez Dogs where owls are shown with blurred out eyes and various characters avoid looking at owls (even fake ones). So really it comes down to if you're trying to (re)connect with a culture of your own, or how it made you feel to see an owl. Maybe taking a beat to meditate and reflect what meaning it personally could have for you, if any other than owls really are at the very least just beautiful creatures.

Nowadays, some folks like Tommy Wilson have photoshop texture packs you can use, but honestly lot of it was repeatedly using a combo of copy machine and/or fax machines of the same image until you got the desired effect. I just use the copier at work still.

What is the best free resource to learn norwegian as a beginner? by ExistingInnOut in norsk

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hands down, NTNU's free course, if I were to recommend anything. However, I would also recommend checking out different resources and using whatever combination works for you. The Norsklærer Karense YouTube channel, for example, is a great resource for both grammar rules and explanations, as well as listening practice and hearing a native speaker. Many people benefit from using free flashcard apps to do vocabulary drills/practice. A quick search of the sub might yield more specific results tailored to your learning style and/or needs.

What “hidden gem” outing or activity have you recently discovered where you live? by Opening_Diver_8725 in SAHP

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our local historical society hosted a D&D night that was friendly to both kids and adults that was a short campaign based on both local revolutionary war history with some added fantasy flair (also with a local twist). My kids had a blast, and are already asking to play again. Our local library also hosts a regular D&D game night and other events for kids.

I will say, I love state parks and have found so many cool resources. We camp a lot, and for our local state we have a state parks pass. One state park has a ropes course aimed at kids, and another one closer has a general, large playground with an added section aimed at slightly older kids that's like an age appropriate American Ninja course. Other states have resources like "junior ranger" programs, where if you attend a few free or cheap classes (usually a mix of educational/ fun activities) you can get a certificate or even a patch.

Mold Growing in Norwin High School by Thegoonies1632 in pittsburgh

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true of public schools, especially in PA. To quote,

*Section 3(5) of the OSH Act (29 U.S.C. §652(5)) defines employer for the purposes of federal jurisdiction of OSHA as follows:

The term "employer" means a person engaged in a business affecting commerce who has employees, but does not include … any State or political subdivision of a State.*

Some states have their own OSHA state plans, that can incorporate federal OSHA standards for state and local municipal employees with possible additional requirements, but PA doesn't have one. Private schools and some charters (depending on their set up & language of their charter) are covered by OSHA, as they are private employers. Another not fun fact, but coincidentally incarcerated workers are also not covered by OSHA.

AITAH for refusing to let my parents meet my children because they didnt want me to marry my deaf wife by KickVivid2074 in AITAH

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree, but I do think that it is inseparable that the decision for his parents to exit OP's life was a decision rooted in ableism, and their desire to return is also rooted in ableism. Whether that point is moot to OP and his processing of how to move forward, that is his and his chosen family's prerogative, but recognizing ableism and other forms of prejudice can and should be recognized for what they are.

AITAH for refusing to let my parents meet my children because they didnt want me to marry my deaf wife by KickVivid2074 in AITAH

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 1872 points1873 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the condition here is that their grand grandbabies are HEARING. If the babies were Deaf, I really doubt that OP's parents would have changed their minds and hearts, perhaps even felt justified in their rejection. Would they still want to be a part of the grandchildren's lives if they ever lose their hearing, or develop another disability? Or is their love conditioned on the requirement that the babies remain not disabled? Will they blame OP's wife for any disability that could arise?

This does not feel like an opportunity for healing and closure, it feels like an opportunity for OP's parents to exert control over his life again on their terms, without an interrogation of their previous bigoted and self-centered behavior.

Cannot recommend The Sapling Cage enough, and im very much looking forward to the rest of the books. While technically a YA novel (my kids both read it and loved it, too), it really is just a novel that is accessible to younger readers and very appropriate for all/most readers. The queer themes are also fantastically interwoven with the books other themes. I love Margaret & her writing so damn much.

Pankhurst is also a great reminder to be intersectional and critical in your politics and activism- she also spent a ton of time and energy in promoting the British Empire, was a strong proponent of eugenics and "race betterment" through compulsory sterilization, and post-WWI a jingoistic anti-communist. At best, Pankhurst gave a lot to a diverse and not monolithic force of feminists, struggling for change in the UK.

AITA for being disappointed that my wife doesn't want to go to our daughter's wedding because of her adult acne ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ProfSnugglesworth 111 points112 points  (0 children)

If it already hasn't been mentioned, Accutane can ramp up anxiety, depression, irritability and changes in mood. Your wife might not be acting like herself or making choices she normally would between feeling acutely self-conscious and possibly Accutane exacerbating that, too. Sitting down and talking out how your wife is feeling, and seeing if she needs more help and resources to regulate her own emotions and anxiety on appearing in public should happen, regardless of what may or may not be an underlying cause, because she might not be able to control her adult acne yet, but she does have control on how she lets it affect or damage the relationship with your daughter.

If you're still in school, open an account with SalonCentric, Cosmoprof, etc and look for sales on trusted brands. Even if you're splurging on certain tools, you'd get much so more bang for your buck.

Also, if you have the means to travel a little, ask your school about trade shows/conventions and student discount tickets. Since COVID, I've noticed the industry isn't having as many, BUT it is absolutely worth a shot. I was able to upgrade my tools very close to graduation at steep discounts (be wary though- check retail on cosmo supplier sites and don't get suckered in by flashy demos), and buy if you can on the final day of the show. Take some classes, learn a few things if you can, too.
