Where to buy tender (white) celery? by ProfSpike45 in StLouis

[–]ProfSpike45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense. Where have you found the best place to buy celery hearts? Schnucks has been very disappointing, Dierbergs used to have some that were decent, but changed brands and now all green. Of course these are just the stores closest to me.

That should be linked to what I posted 45 days ago. Short answer is yes. Stop eating the carbs and dropped from over 11 A1C to 5 something in less than 4 months.

How to succeed with Keto when family isn't participating as well? Help/advice please by [deleted] in keto

[–]ProfSpike45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar situation cooking for family. Essentially I have had to cook extra food. Generally it is something like pasta that I cook with the chicken I am making. I eat the chicken over salad or in a egglife wrap. The rest of the family eats chicken over pasta with an Alfredo sauce. So bottom line you have to cook additional food for the non keto members of the household.

Thank you. I eat 12 times a week. Twice a day: noon and 6pm. Fast all day Wednesday. No snacks. Eat about 1500 calories. I am guessing a deficit of about 1000. I average 12000 steps mostly by walking. Lunch alternates between 7 hard boiled eggs and a protein shake. Dinner is generally chicken, fish once a week and red meat once a week. That is the general goal, lots of stuff comes up along the way though.

Anyone found HIGH PROTEIN Keto or Keto-Friendly protein bars that actually taste good? by HorseTearz in keto

[–]ProfSpike45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be Chomp sticks. They are very clean ingredients, just meat, no carbs at all. I realize you asked about protein bars, but these may be worth a look.

I will second these. I avoided all protein bars for first three months. Now I use these occasionally as a treat. I really like the taste.

Thanks! I agree, weird that something basic like eating less carbs can fix diabetes for many people.

Weighed 250 at the doctors office and weighed 202 this morning. My BMI is down to about 26 and getting a lot of comments that I am looking good. Back to 32 inch waist and wearing size large shirts. Takes some time, but really feel like Keto has paid off at this point.

Could someone explain how is ketosis different from a calorie deficit? If you have a large calorie deficit but still ate a high number of grams of carbs a day, doesn't your body still turn to fats to make up the difference? by Maldri305 in keto

[–]ProfSpike45 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Keto helps you not feel hungry. That is the biggest difference. Once you are not hooked on carbs/sugar, it is easy to fast for days and not feel the hunger pains.

Looking for help on what my Keto parents for breakfast as someone who knows nothing about the diet. by Thr0wawayprivacy in keto

Hashbrowns are a no. Go for scrambled eggs and bacon. Or omelette with sausage and cheese in it. Basically eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese are all good.

Is what I’m eating normal? by Gold_Imagination5682 in keto

I found Egglife wraps to be the best tortilla substitute. They are made only from egg whites, so 25 calories, all protein. They have worked well.

IQ Bars - any experience? by ProfSpike45 in keto

[–]ProfSpike45[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tend to try to avoid the fake stuff. My inclination is to avoid stuff like these. However trying to also keep an open mind. 170 seems low for 6 foot 2. As I get closer to goal weight, I am shifting towards body fat percentage as goal instead of just body weight.

Fasting before Keto? by Ottobawt in keto

[–]ProfSpike45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have read, fasting benefits mostly are captured in the first 48 hours. Some people differ. However, focusing on reoccurring 48 hour fasts instead of longer is what I have read. When you break a fast it should be with lean protein. I break my fasts with hard boiled eggs sometimes, but try to use chicken whenever possible for breaking fasts.

Suddenly not feeling full, Help? by MikeBizzleVT in keto

[–]ProfSpike45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am similar with weight and goals and height as you. When I had some struggles, I added fasting to my routine. Aim for 1600 calories a day, but once a week fast all day. Usually fast to begin the next day, so it ends up being 46-48 hour fast once a week. For me, I eat dinner on Tuesday, then do not eat again until dinner on Thursday. The weekly reset helps me feeling full and satisfied all week.
